well, i suppose it's hard to explain and i don't intend to properly, but if you gamble, you need ways of ranking the horses.
one of those ways is using section times and race times.
the thing about barakey is that it is making the race(and going like hell in front, even if it does not look like it), so it should be wilting a bit at least at the end.....instead it's winning untouched(although it's questionable how much extra he could find if pressured)
from a punting aspect these are the VERY best types of horse, because they don't rely on others to make the race for them.
so unless something goes wrong with the horse, then i can't see it getting beaten on its merits in wa, although i guess they all get beaten sooner or later.
anyway the numbers i am producing for it(and i must stress that subjectivity plays no part in the raw numbers), are basically out of this world!!
still, if it makes it over east i don't know, as what it has to do in wa will not be the same as it has to do over here(if it comes).
but so long as it doesn't bump into bc then i am pretty confident it will measure up to the best of the rest over here.
i shouldn't be surprised though as i noted early on in this thread it was VERY good.
The peak rating I have for HL in WA is 143 in his second last start against my namesake 8)
What those numbers actually mean to joe punter are irrelevant, but how do your numbers for the 2 compare Carey?
classic line came when BC was talking about coming for the winterbottom. Jimmy said he'd avoid her because imagine the rating they'd get if he beat her.......news flash, if you're good enough to beat her you don't have to worry about your rating no more. just win every wfa sprint this country has...
.
Go to Melbourne for the Spring Carnival riches and come home and plunder the Winterbottom Stakes.
Yep I'm dreaming of course.
He weill win east on times no prob but getting close to the champ just wont happen its as simple as that ,there are a few ok sprinters over east at present Rain Affair ,Bel Sprinter,Foxwedge ect ect he has to beat them before i consider him a chance against the best in the world BC
hay list over east would be higher than hay list in wa, but i don't personally keep numbers for anywhere but wa, and i don't talk about stuff that is not entirely my own, and i can't check it off this computer anyway!
the problem with wa horses is they don't have to run to the required level when they are in wa, so it's always difficult to tell what will happen when they go east......can they raise to that level or not?
in the case of barakey, if i was a betting man  , then i would say yes, it's easily up to the best over here with one notable exception.
still, they're only numbers, and are often wrong, but i don't think that's the case with barakey, because it just keeps returning mammoth numbers every time.
the ratings mean diddly squat if there is a maximum topweight, or the race is wfa.
bc rating is basically staying stagnant because she keeps meeting the opposition on favourable weight terms, and thus can't logically have her rating increased.
As with Hay List, we were lucky to see him early and he was just as impressive. I wish Jimmy and the connections all the best, as a rising 5yr old with only a dozen runs under his belt (including trials) he is in a great position to challenge the best in the land this spring, and if that goes to plan maybe the best anywhere next year...
He is impressive and i hope that when he comes up against better horses he can run all the way to the line, and the way he ran out those first few races i reckon he'll do well....
I like the way they have worked him through his grades..Put a few dollars in his bank for the owners and that helps with what is in front of him.
She has done it all against quality opposition...and i hope she retires never beaten in about 2 years..he doesn't have to beat her to be a great horse. :)
I still feel that to beat her, he would have to be a champion. And until he goes up against some class horses it is hard to put any label on him. His times are sensational and i want to see him run out the whole race...Only against the better horses will he have to do that.
Now he is in the 90's(although it is a WA 90!!!!!) we are all close to seeing exactly what he is made of...Will be an interesting spring.
Have missed out on a few Key Business yearlings..agree that he has been a worthy stallion and occassionally under rated.
never mind rio, he may only be a 'wa90' at the moment, but he is much much better than that i reckon.
5/11 was a fair bit better, but every run it does is VERY high.
there's also the essence of the runs.
high numbers alone don't necessarily mean much
So if you want to see the continued rise of WA's best sprinting prospect in the last 5 years, come to Northam on Sunday.
I might also add that this meeting is the first for My Atacanta complimentary serves for the upcoming breeding season. Any filly or mare winning on the day, and of course the winner of the "My Atacanta at Rivercrest Park for 2012 Hcp" will all pick up a serve for connections in addition to the stakes on offer.
