i think the horse got down just before the kick and turner grabbed for balance, which is a natural reaction.
still it's a non runner for mine, because it happened before the gates had opened.

Just watched the last 600 I'm lost for words what was he thinking just pure desperation, Hans Up just responded to everything, very very good horse.

I haven't seen the incident but I can tell you that Troy has received a 30 day careless riding suspension according to the stewards report.

Should of been declared a non runner, if they checked the slow mo of start

Although im no expert on racing rules

Why not? If it was a barrier attendant it would be a non-runner. If it's the jockey/horse responsible it's just bad luck. Another benefit of open top barriers .... B-)

Very correct, if it is horse error then it is deemed a starter...thats the rule I think you will find...I had a horse sit down in the gates one day just before opening and thought it would be a non runner for sure, argued in the stewards room for 30 mins yet still deemed a runner....joke but thats the rule

So why does rwwa not employ gate staff on a main jobb basis? . Get them and Todd to work all trials and provincial/metro meeting's. Pinny, Bunny, Ascot, Belmont, Northam. Melbourne gate staff need a ticket to work the gates. Do ours? . What is the requirements to work at the gates here?... a helmet and vest?. Why not employ and train gate staff. NZ gate staff work at trial, why?, they and the starter learn about the horses before they front raceday.

And on the hans up situation, should he be made to trial. .. Hell No. If there was an attendant up then it is there job to inform the starter to wait. If not the starter should have seen thr horse putting his head down as it did not happen simultaneously as the start was made. The head was down bbefore the button was pushed. Wrong call by stewards.

My only interest yesterday was The Alleged mainly because I thought it was an ordinary ride last start and when I saw Pike as the replacement rider I got as excited as Kevin (Kardashian) Rudd in a room full of mirrors.

I predicted it would be finishing fast from the rear to be in the finish. How wrong was I? Who could have predicted Get The Net leading... has never led in it's life.. and The Alleged (normally settles further back) having a leisurely stroll behind it. The chances of that happening I thought would be the same as me sitting on Usain Bolt's shoulder coming around the turn in a 200 metre sprint. Though The Alleged was bolting I thought something would outsprint it... fortunately I was wrong again.

A very oddly run race indeed.

The fewer barrier staff in the gates holding onto horses the better imo. It reduces the chances of "interference" but these enclosed barriers being what they are, barrier attendants holding onto horses is almost a necessity. I don't like it, I never have, it's so open to corruption.

    Stewards' Report

GET THE NET (Ben Paterson) – When questioned regarding the gelding leading, rider advised that he
was obliged to race wide in the early stages and when there was no pace from runners to his inside
and his mount was travelling well he allowed it to stride forward.

    That is an understatement.;))

Fact is if Hans up gets declared a non runner then the race pool would be cut by about 75%, you think rwwa are going to let this happen? bahaha. I have seen perth racing do some funny things in the past, but no question they were always going to deem him a starter.
The jock couldnt do much about it, the horse dips and he tries to get his balance. Would punters be happier if he fell off? at least he stayed on and tried to give the horse a chance, which he got close.

My best advice as a fellow punter, LOAD UP next start. Will get similar weight in probably the same field, he just wins...if he doesnt do the same thing in the barriers.
