I went to open an account with beteasy today to take advantage of their first deposit offer ($500). Once I clicked on the promotion i noticed in the small print that residents of VIC, NSW, WA and SA are excluded from the offer.
BetEasy are sorry that we cannot make this offer available to you. The Offer is forbidden by Victorian, NSW, WA and SA state law.
You’ll have to cop it sweet for now and look on the bright side. BetEasy will do its best to add to the entertainment of watching your favourite sports with a bet riding on the result.
Since when has this been the case?

Exactly. I think the terminology of 'free bets' is the obstacle as far as the legislation goes. Various bookmakers offer 'Bonus' bets or deposit 'match' promotions. ;)

I have heard of people in NSW opening accounts on the condition that bonus bets will be forthcoming. The law is an ass. I don't know how banning online live betting is supposed to be the silver bullet that cures problem gambling? There is nothing worse than calling up and seeing the price quoted change whilst you are on hold.

No, it prevents you from getting the best price possible. Which is half the battle win winning on the punt.
