    Another story I have heard.

Caroline Searcy has been removed from the TVN coverage of the races over the period of the carnival.

She is still working for TVN and is covering the Inglis w@nk, sorry, I meant sales in Sydney, with Bruce Clarke.

Apparently it was felt that she is out of her depth covering the big meetings.

My informant tells me this is fact not rumour, so I'll be interested to see if she is on on Saturday.

I have heard that Betstar are doing it tough. What exactly that means I don't know.

I haven't heard about any alleged financial issues. It could mean that they are finding it hard against the other British Corps.

    My informant wouldn't elaborate!!!

It has taken 6 months for the drugs to kick in. :((

Anyway, I'm told April 16 is the deadline as to whether or not any player will be charged.

I'm not holding my breath on that one!!

good because im sick to death of her talking utter tripe about "beautifully bred types".... Nobody gives a **** when they are punting! Well I don't anyway, she damages the tvn brand imo.

Looks like Ladbrokes set to buy Eskander's Betstar in a deal that may be worth $20-25m

Overall Searcey is a good performer, but she does rabbit on about breeding way too much. She is on a station which promotes punting and she really has to get her head around that and know the form more than she does. She also talks a bit too quickly when the pressure is on and when big races are on and she doesn't contribute enough to the presentation.Having Clark and Richardson there offers professionalism, knowledge and smooth presentation skills wrapped into one.

I'm not sure how being a former sprinter gives Jason Richardson any credibility with regards to horse racing? He manages to bluff his way through most of the time but I'd hardly call him an authority.

I'm not sure how all this is good for completion? Centrebet, Sportingbet & TW.com will reportedly be just William Hill. At present there are still some difference in products offered between Sportingbet & Centrebet, even if the fixed price is the same. Ladbrokes, similarly has acquired bookmaker.com.au and now it seems Betstar too.

So now we have William Hill(Sportingbet, Centrebet & TW.com) and Ladbrokes(Ladbrokes, bookmaker.com and most likely Betstar) owning multiple operators. It doesn't sound good for competition

What happens if they open betting shops like in the UK? Is that even a possibility?

Richardson has no idea about racing, has a stupid laugh and thinks everything is funny

    An email received from Betstar:

    Dear....

Since 2007, we have been proud to operate Eskander's Betstar. Together with our amazing team we have built a company that we believe has provided a high quality and personal wagering experience for our members.
Over the past couple of years the wagering market has changed beyond recognition and it has become increasingly challenging for an Australian-owned, family-run business to keep up with the increasing demands from the market. We strongly believe that we have punched well above our weight division and thank everyone in the Betstar team for their dedication and hard work.
We would also like to thank you, our loyal members who have supported us and made the experience so enjoyable.
It has been announced today that Eskander's Betstar has been acquired by Ladbrokes. While we had expressions of interest from several parties, we are excited to do a deal with Ladbrokes as their product offering and technology are world class and their innovative nature and values are aligned with our own. All of which, I have no doubt will be well received by the existing Betstar membership base.
Ladbrokes have been in the game since 1886 and have a strong and clear vision to become a key player in the Australian market and their acquisition of Betstar is a vital piece of this vision. While it marks the end of an era for the Betstar team, it's the beginning of an exciting chapter for our members , who can only benefit from the amazing resources at Ladbrokes' disposal.
Importantly, the Betstar brand will live on and your account remains unchanged.
What you can look forward to is increased product, a new website and mobile site and of course access to the Ladbrokes ATM withdrawal offering.
Alan will also be personally involved in the transition over the next 12 months and is available for any queries you have.
So sit tight, stick with Betstar and look forward to the many innovations that are on the horizon.
    Thanks again for your support.

They, like every Corporate are a Fkn disgrace.

They advertise responsible gambling, but you can only bet with them if you are a compulsive gambler and loser.

Where is the Federal Gaming Minister and that waste of space Xenophon, and why isn't there a full inquiry into these parasites.

I have never had a bet with a corporate. Why would anyone with any interest in racing in WA do so in the knowledge they currently do not financially support any racing here ? Unless something has changed.

Minimal funding through race fields legislation. The problem is that if you are a serious punter you will always chase the best price be It through Betfair or the corporates until the latter shut you down.

Anyone with a financial interest in the industry should support the WA TAB when there is no price difference as the return to racing is much greater. Owners and Trainers, (we know jockeys don't bet) that bet outside of WA should forfeit the right to complain about stake money increases.

If one of the larger corporates purchased the WA TAB at the soon to be announced WA Govt cash grab, then that could drastically change the stakes money landscape here in WA. I couldn't see how any purchaser would be made to support Racing with only increased stakes and have to maintain current levels by legislation.

It is inevitable to me that if this sale does proceed, WA like the UK, will for the most part running for ever decreasing levels of financial support and the sport will become more and more the domain of rich men and a decreasing number of Industry participants as a result.

In other words, the profits will go offshore and we will be running for ribbons.
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts

that could happen Damo, but I am confident that the sale would have a lot of conditions on it to ensure continuous funding of the industry is maintained...otherwise there is no benefit in selling for the government.

Many years ago in the early seventies, my Dad had five betting shops in the UK. He had his first two bets with Ladbrokes, they both ran last, and they called him to say that they were closing his account forthwith. The reason cited: 'we don't want smart money'. Nothing's changed....

The problem is these corporates are being run by risk averse accountants who are driving the direction of these companies. Horseracing is a sport defined by innumerable variables, which are difficult to predict.

A quote from a losing punter " just quadrapeds going round in circles". Very astute i thought!

Anyone seen the Bookmaker.com. au.....I mean Ladbrokes......sorry Betstar website? It's just the same products/pricing as the other two arms of their operation. How is this good for competition?
