Looks like Ladbrokes set to buy Eskander's Betstar in a deal that may be worth $20-25m

So now we have William Hill(Sportingbet, Centrebet & TW.com) and Ladbrokes(Ladbrokes, bookmaker.com and most likely Betstar) owning multiple operators. It doesn't sound good for competition

Dear....
Since 2007, we have been proud to operate Eskander's Betstar. Together with our amazing team we have built a company that we believe has provided a high quality and personal wagering experience for our members.
Over the past couple of years the wagering market has changed beyond recognition and it has become increasingly challenging for an Australian-owned, family-run business to keep up with the increasing demands from the market. We strongly believe that we have punched well above our weight division and thank everyone in the Betstar team for their dedication and hard work.
We would also like to thank you, our loyal members who have supported us and made the experience so enjoyable.
It has been announced today that Eskander's Betstar has been acquired by Ladbrokes. While we had expressions of interest from several parties, we are excited to do a deal with Ladbrokes as their product offering and technology are world class and their innovative nature and values are aligned with our own. All of which, I have no doubt will be well received by the existing Betstar membership base.
Ladbrokes have been in the game since 1886 and have a strong and clear vision to become a key player in the Australian market and their acquisition of Betstar is a vital piece of this vision. While it marks the end of an era for the Betstar team, it's the beginning of an exciting chapter for our members , who can only benefit from the amazing resources at Ladbrokes' disposal.
Importantly, the Betstar brand will live on and your account remains unchanged.
What you can look forward to is increased product, a new website and mobile site and of course access to the Ladbrokes ATM withdrawal offering.
Alan will also be personally involved in the transition over the next 12 months and is available for any queries you have.
So sit tight, stick with Betstar and look forward to the many innovations that are on the horizon.
Thanks again for your support.

Anyone with a financial interest in the industry should support the WA TAB when there is no price difference as the return to racing is much greater. Owners and Trainers, (we know jockeys don't bet) that bet outside of WA should forfeit the right to complain about stake money increases.

It is inevitable to me that if this sale does proceed, WA like the UK, will for the most part running for ever decreasing levels of financial support and the sport will become more and more the domain of rich men and a decreasing number of Industry participants as a result.
In other words, the profits will go offshore and we will be running for ribbons.
that could happen Damo, but I am confident that the sale would have a lot of conditions on it to ensure continuous funding of the industry is maintained...otherwise there is no benefit in selling for the government.
A quote from a losing punter " just quadrapeds going round in circles". Very astute i thought!
