I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned earlier. Luckygray is heading to Robert Smerdon in Victoria.

    In todays paper the owner said he was in unsuitable races over there nahhhhhh ,and he is looking for 1400m and 1600m so why run in 1200m sprints fair dinkum ,this bloke will win races with an Eastern states trainer i have no doubt no disrespect to Gino but the grey needs to stay there as he doesnt hold condition well so flying him over the country and back will lighten him of to much best of luck Smerdon is a very good trainer

    Good horses change stables all the time though. This move may extend his career as for the most part, Luckygray would have been weighted out of most events in WA with the exception of SWFA.

    there is a maximum topweight in nearly every stakes race hcp in wa, the peters being the only exception i can think of.

    so no matter how often they win 61 is the max they can carry.

    for a very good horse, 61 means they might be thrown in at the weights, and if i was in the business of handicapping there would be NO maximum topweight.

    Hence the "Rumour has it" before the comment. Dont shoot the messenger, the messenger only hears what he hears! Alot of rumours about the greys future, for there to possibly be no change. Hence why ppl are talking becasue it seems inevitable.

    And just to add a bit more fuel to Carey's fire, Luckygray still destroyed his rivals carrying 61 kilos in last years Belmont sprint and he clocked a sub 34 sectional for his final 600m. So if he did (not necessarily does) receive 61 kilos everytime he raced under Handicap conditions then he could still win easily enough although the odds would be against him doing it on a consistent basis. There are a lot more options for him over east though and it'll be interesting to see if Shaun O'donnell continues riding him too :-/

    I am not sure how stating the facts (which might not be as interesting as the rumours) is shooting the messenger. I thought these forums are to dicuss things and gain information for everyones enjoyment. Personally I prefer to go with facts, maybe others like to speculate and that's ok also.

    Luckygray - 12 wins from 20 starts with prize money of $1,820,575.


    Purchase price = $43,000

    WA prize money = $1,740,000 `The highest prize money earned in WA by a WA horse.

    Melbourne prize money = $80,575

    FYI - The current WA Horse Of The Year

    1200m race distance upto WFA in WA 5 starts/ 5 wins

    Change of trainer 2013 = ?????

    Yehhhhh he is going to Melbourne and SOD has no chance of keeping the ride didnt no if you new but there are some handy jocks in Melb ?? then again after this horses last prep of wanting to run into BC it wouldnt suprise me at all what the connections would do

    Oh I am certainly aware of the capabilities of some of the jockeys over east. I suppose its nice to remain loyal to regular race riders but when local talent is available and willing to take the mount (Not many jockeys wouldn't be) then surely you have to go with your head over your heart when it comes down to jockey selection?
