Decent 9 race card possibly more musings to follow but firstly to two I like.

R6 i reckon River Beau is a bet again today, carries the same weight after the claim as when he won first up and is drawn to get a soft run a pair back from the speed.Hoping they run along and someone presses Acromantula and Louis can go bang late.
$13 boosted and decent odds the drum, with even luck i'm pretty confident he can at least place.

Earlier in R4 and it's Steve Parnham watch time, only a guess but I would say he had the choice of 2 last start winners here and sticks with Ghobella.Sticky draw is the only hiccup, she won really well at her latest outing in decent time too.
The Parhhams could fight this race out but I'll be on the man of the moment(13 winners from his last 54 and of his 40 odd losers 16 were rough, 21 bucks or longer).

Just got back to the hotel from Ascot. Bloody freezing. We came here to get away from that  weather.
Some of the women need their heads read. As my missus, who would have got hypothermia if we’d stayed said, they must have picked out an outfit and decided to wear it no matter what the weather was like. They were walking around half nude. I must admit I did enjoy looking at the menu.

Anyway, 9 bookies working, or there was supposed to be 9 but the bloke who was supposed to operate at the pavilion bar didn’t turn up. Just as well, he would have frozen his niagra’s off out there.
Nice to see Peter McCormack back working. Rabbit’s is apparently in Melbourne. Even though we came back before Sniparoochie’s race, there didn’t appear to be a lot of action in the betting ring. Mind you  I was that cold it was hard to stand still for long enough to see what, if anything, was going on.

The missus and I have decided that, and it has been predicted that it will be, if it’s like this on cup day, we won’t go. We are here for  a month and the weather is predicted to improve later in the week and there are plenty of meetings to attend. They could have provided those  heaters  that you see outside restaurants to help keep us warm, but they just don’t give a stuff .

Just one more thing. The TAB were running a big luncheon and promotion and it appeared to be a punters club in the middle of the betting ring. It was yet another example of fukk the punters. They had a bloke on the microphone talking in stereo totally oblivious to the fact that races were being run and we couldn’t hear a thing because this goose totally lacked timing. Finally someone must have said something because it got a bit better towards the end if the interstate races.

It’s just one more sign of the times where the on course punter is irrelevant to the powers that be.

Mate, sometimes there's no room and there's fark all they can do about it. It's not a game of kamikaze- if there's nowhere to go they ain't gonna force something and risk a fall.
Sure, you might have done your dough but this default bagging of the jockey when its an unlucky case is poor form. If you're vomiting just do it in your own lounge room quietly

It would've been so good if the Parnham horse won hey. Not to be.
There are some real fairytale outcomes in sport- seems to happen quite often... but not this time unfortunately

Gangemi's were successful and Parnhams just missed. What is this birthday celebration should mean race victory sympathy all about? What next? Do we start fixing races to suit the name of the race? Get a grip for goodness sake.

The horse was hard held for the last 150m and was still gaining ground. That’s how much horse he had under him. Finished 2 lengths off the winner and In my opinion took the wrong option.
Should have angled for the outside 450m out instead of riding for luck.
Stewards comments didn’t exactly paint a pretty picture either.

    Yes …..still vomiting.

Certainly looked to be bolting with plenty more to give, problem Is now the odds will be ridiculous next time...

Anyone know why Ponty doesn't ride for Bob? He wins that race by 2 and eased down.

I posted my whinge, in the forlorn hope that the powers that be would take note, and maybe, just maybe, they would spend a second or two considering the possible needs of the on course patron.

We actually thought that under the roof  of the betting ring we would be protected from the elements. Having said that, the boss WAS  wearing a coat and I had on a jumper and jacket and we still froze. It wasn’t just us. A few oldies like us were sitting together, including Nick from Nick’s Seafood who a few might know, and were freezing as well.

Not only did we know the forecast but so did the powers that  be at Perth Racing, and it wouldn’t have cost them much to hire a few of those heater’s  I referred to for the comfort of the on course punters whose hard earned helps towards paying their salaries.

Anyway, she who must be obeyed, today, bought some extra garments to wear against the predicted cold. We are here on holiday from a bitterly cold crappy Melbourne, and she said there is no way we are sitting in a hotel room rain hail or shine on Melbourne Cup Day.

I like Melarab in the first, his resuming run was very decent which is a good sign as he didn't come up at all last prep.
The prep before he won on heavy ground second up over 2100m he can replicate that I reckon..the man S.Parnham is steering.

Very interested to watch Amelia's Jewel in the feature and also how hyped up Dmac gets :D She is 1.50 at a few corps, 1.60 Tabtouch.
SP Is riding the second favourite so if the hotpot were to put in a less than expected run he could notch a double, almost certainly runs 2nd with even luck.
Royal Elite is up a stack in grade from a maiden win but do not leave her out of the novelties here i reckon she could be quite smart, ran very good time the day she won coming from last and should not be $51/61 imo.

While on subject of race names and I may have mentioned this previously I will never forget a night at the greyhounds back in about 1990 my second last night at the dogs...Winfield Cup night sponsored by Rothmans. It was the second week after previous week qualifiers and the Rothmans Cigarettes Winfield Cup was won by a dog called QUIT. Brilliant result for non smokers
