Send some of that warming to Sydney please. In the first 50 days of Summer, we have only made it to 30°C on 4 occasions (max 34.6 on Dec 19) according to Observatory Hill. According to forecasts we may only just hit 30°C on Tuesday of next week. It's been a cool summer over here.

When we were going to have a very hot Saturday in Melbourne a few weeks ago, Racing Victoria started the 9 race program at 10.30, and got through the day fine finishing at 3.15.

Why didn't Perth Racing or whatever title they use, run the 8 race program with the first at 10.00 AM, have 30 minutes between each race and have the last at 1.00 P.M.

They have obviously, not considered, how abandoning the meeting, will affect the incomes of so many industry participants. They could have allowed any owner or trainer or jockey, to scratch, or decide not to ride. But all that takes commonsense, and like most administrators nowadays, they are bereft of any of that quality.

Because it was forecast to hit 40°C very early in the day. It's already 34.8°C at 9.30a.m WST

yes, it is a stinking heat wave......And Sky control everything, very little autonomy any more. Eastern States time slots get absolute priority, have a look at how many meetings are being covered today.

Yep a racing authority who needs racing to succeed, makes every effort to add races when the meetings are cancelled didnt consider how abandoning a race meeting affects participants.

the audacity in you is breathtakingly stupid

Pretty obvious where the lack of common sense lays

Heat. Dont know why it takes them so long to make the decision.Everyone has known it was gunna be to hot today.  And looks pretty much the same the next few days. Making a late call is very difficult for those traveling from down south etc. So what will happen tommorow?

Where would they come up with the funds to do that Shotthru. Put lighting around Ascot. Any electricians amongst us who may have any idea the cost?

what about panels, spink? we have abundant sunshine.
  • LETSDOTHISLETSDOTHIS    315 posts
The problem is, horses needed to be transported to and from the racecourse which sometimes takes hours. I actually think being on course is the least of their worries where they can be sprayed with water and looked after, it’s more the travel in a bloody hot truck to the races

How after all this time with great balmy summer evening weather we dont have a racetrack with lights, to be frank, has me totally farked. And i take aim at rwwa, not perth racing for this issue.

Rwwa have all the money under the sun and they need to pump this into infrastructure, fark knows what they are doing with the money. Worth noting they seem to have more staff than coles myer, doing what exactly? Complete timewasters.

Exactly cut staff and wages not needed and that’d help

Thank you for your answer, Rodent, which, aside from explaining the reasoning behind the decision, was written without insult or malice, unlike that imbecilic buffoon Meatpie's response.

So my contacts down south let me know that rwwa instead of engaging a track builder, employed a road builder for the redev of Bunbury tp save approx $2m. Apparently alot of issues now. Oh well at least they are trying to save some money b-(
