Why has interest waned?

West Australian Racing
:)]
Curious to know why the interest level has dropped off big time lately?
:-??
Reckon we all have a lot going on and times are a bit tough. But what else is creating a lack of interest?
:-?
And what can we do to rejuvenate some interest?

me personally if I'm not punting for financial or personal reasons then you wont see or hear a word from me (especially on my week off from work)

last week I was on holiday and didn't post, read or contribute one bit... that's my reason

    chris still on holiday?

and it seems old falcon is in Bali at the minute so we can expect to hear less from him (maybe this is the week to load on multis and the punters club) :P

maybe we have to bring back mailman.......................?!  :-c

or maybe the Freo dockers are to blame, their poor performance is reflected state wide and affected PTT  ;)

could be various reason for that , perhaps people sick of getting smacked in the head when they stick their head up to voice an opinion. I have seen it numerous times most times justified sometimes its just clash of ego's.

most racing forums(or fora) die over time.
this one has had a good run, and as it is wa based, then it will likely only interest those that like wa racing
anyway, my opinion is that the current racing in wa is killing this one.
lots of meetings are held these days, where there is no thread for it, or if there is a thread ,it gets little interest, compared to how it once was.

i doubt it has anything to do with people voicing opinions or ego clashing.

I was going to say exactly that and is why I have faded into the background a bit. I do read the comments daily/regularly because I subscribe to the Rss feeds but have not really contributed much of late.

If turnover at the track (and attendances) is anything to go by... then it is the declining interest in WA racing that is seeing the forum so quiet.
Maybe we should start a game of thrones thread?

I know my input has been down due to a few reason that are not linked to the site or racing. But in the past I would have still made comment as I'd done form and was keen to get a return.

However this year has just been to hard to get on the right horse. It is a losing streak that has at many time been made look worse by unexplained performances of horses, or straight out ridiculously stupid riding.... I supple that always happens but its seems to be worse recently and nothing and nobody seems to want to change it. So there is no point coming on here and flapping my gums about it as everyone on here knows how bad it is.

If I wasn't in a few tipping comps I'm not sure I would even be doing the Saturday form. But there have been many weeks in the past 2 months when I haven't even looked at a midweek race meet....even when I have mats horses running or black bookers. And when my horses race I generally only do the form for that race...no others on the card!!! Unheard of 12 months ago.

So money is a bit tight, form is inconsistent, no confidence in the product to perform consistently, plus everytime you raise an issue with RWWA you get hounded like a criminal for daring to think and then have to deal with thugs and heavy handed officials cos you dare asked a question, or challenged their position.. I know I am really sick of RWWA and Owners Only for how they have structured the industry this badly. And in my opinion PR are a disgrace as the leading club promoting WA racing and no-one is wiling to do anything about them...So all up, just the normal whinging from me and am sick of the inability for just about anyone in the industry to embrace change and go forward......Which of cause is a product of all the RWWA people having no certainty about their future in the industry or in the role they currently hold...

despite what people may say, nearly all punters deserve the 'mug' moniker.
if one could stay neutral(money back over a long period), then they would have to be very good, because they have overcome the rake.
i don't know who the professionals on here are....any clues?
it is certainly not me, i am just a simple bloke that likes hugging trees and doing my bit for wildlife conservation of threatened species!

OK I am gonna stick my head up here to be smacked.

So am I the only who has not got the concept of owners only completely and what I have , it almost seems to have been designed too direct new people into the industry too 3-4 Higher Profile trainers and 1-2 select breeders  really to the detriment of everyone else

Pretty close to the mark FH.............A disgusting biased promotion for the leaders of the industry, and a lot of money spent on activities that do nothing for the owners already in the industry...which I was told first hand was their priority target audience.

EDIT...PS, I don't think OO have realised that the winning trainers and  owners done really need to be rewarded and encourage. If you have winning stock there is a good chance you will continue....I don't know of one incentive, one prize or one program that has targeted or been directed at, or to the benefit of owners that aren't winning....I personally think they are missing their target audience by about 180degrees

I'm winning a LOT less these days. The last few years I've got bored of the races (too much racing). I'm ready to get back into it but feel it would be so much easier if there were fewer races.
It's easier to stay on top of the form with fewer races. If only it were 3 meetings per week, that'd be awesome. Bigger fields racing for more prizemoney would be good.

I don't think Owners Only is the problem, they certainly are not the answer, but it's a start.

I think a lot of our issues are rooted in the past with people and organisations handicapping the Industry. I see one of the problems being small interest groups and Clubs, acting independently under a racing umbrella, but by their actions, tearing apart the very Industry they think they are promoting. Far too many decisions have been made, and policy formed, that promotes inbred thinking that has now given birth to a deformed monster.

The financial decisions of the immediate past, will handicap the Industry for decades, and if left to fester, the disease will ultimately kill us outright. With the inevitable sale of the WA TAB, there will come a time when we are simply an entry on a spreadsheet that refuses to balance and jobs and growth will have vanished.

You really don't have to look too far in other regions of Australia to see this at work right now. At least two States are in effective shutdown as going concerns, and just simply trying to make ends meet is their annual goal.

Far too much is given to far too few in WA. There is no distribution that I can see, linked to performance. There is little or no choice in quality in the breeding Industry. A complete monopoly in selling. No training or Industry standards in Training qualifications for participants to achieve or to improve, with almost zero opportunities outside of family connection for anyone to progress.

At an organisational level, it is irresponsible that independent Clubs can incur debt of staggering proportions through ill conceived ideas, that have generational ramifications for the Industry, and these ideas have been brought to fruition by people that can't be held responsible for the insanity of such ideas.

Sadly the solution is in plain sight, but the organisation that can actually do something about the above is simply working through job protection under the threat of extinction through a sale. Of course it's RWWA that I refer to. They could fix all of the above if they had the strength of commitment. I'm told more focus is put into updated resume's on Linked In though.

We don't have politicians with Racing at heart anymore. The Premier has cut us adrift after being insulted several years ago when he wanted co-operation in building a football stadium. So whilst we wait for his removal at the ballot box, and perhaps a kinder hearing into our future, we have no single champion of our cause.

We have special interest groups and organisations looking after their own patch and everyone else is on their own.

That's my take on WA Racing and the lack of interest in same.

One thing gambling on the horses has taught me....it's bloody hard to win...and very easy to lose. But still enjoy it as much as ever. Nothing beats a horse race. Also don't underestimate how much the impact of sports betting has seen interest in racing diminish. Think you have a greater chance winning on sports than racing. You can get the % a little more in your favour. @Carey is correct to beat the rake out you have to be exceptional just to break even over an extended period of time.

tbh when I heard the rain was coming last week i gave Belmont the wide berth because of the prospect of a deteriorating track. The focus has shifted to Brisbane atm anyway, but I notice some forum members don't even look eastwards outside of the spring majors.

Corect Buffy.....Just the TAB...the rest will be retained as a government instrumentality...Probably very slimmed down I'd suggest, and having to work within a strict budget..At the moment they are feeding money back to the government every year, so the budgets may not be scrutinized like they may be in the future

I've lost interest in racing because I like to win.
If you want to win you need a lot of money to buy a real hope at the sales.
If you like to breed like myself you need a lot of money to send your mares East and pay the service and expenses.
    WA breeding is dead.
I've turned my attention to greyhounds for the reasons people know. It gives me everything + more and I'd be very surprised if after the last of our horses makes the track we will ever return to the horses.

my interest has waned because you just cant beat Bob. Taking nothing away from the chap i actually quite like the bloke and he deserves the success. But Bob rocks up to the races with guided missle launchers and everyone else is trying to compete with water pistols....... Its like watching Man Utd play against my pub soccer team. U know the result before the game has started.
