Hot on the heels of news that the world's best sprinter Lankan Ruppee may target the race, Stradbroke runner up, Temple Of Boom is also looking westwards in search of future riches.

    if my mare had won 20+ straight and retirement was looming i'd be selective too, aiming to go out with a 100% win rate.

    LR is argueably the worlds best sprinter, why travel here, rock hard track, for one race..there are much bigger fish to fry.

    money is not the object as the owner has squillions.

    just my opinion, if he came i'd be first in the gate.

    First of all he needs to be sound. I have this lingering feeling he will go amiss, I hope I am wrong. If he dominates the spring like the past autumn why wouldn't he choose WA over HK? Mick Price has already voiced doubts about taking the horse, a gelding, overseas. More recently he cited the risk of inoculating the horse for HK-presumably on the off chance of derailing the horse's spring campaign if LR has an adverse reaction. With the $250k increase in prizemoney and the G1 status it's a no brainer imo. The horse's ability to race close to the speed also helps given the racing pattern at Ascot.

    I always thought taking Sea Siren to HK was stupid when the Winterbottom was there for the taking. She might not have been good enough to beat Barakey but that long straight at HK can leave on pace horses exposed and drawing wide has brought no lesser horses than Miss Andretti undone. Miss Andretti was beaten as an odds on pop at Adelaide at her next start. I know it's important for mares or colts to get that international win but is it worth it if you come back with half a horse?

    ...without international win - Australian horses will not reap benefit . Altoughs Lankan Rupee is good - is  only highest rated sprinter because kris Flyer winner Lucky 9 is not re rated yet.

    Buffering, Moment Of Change(subsequent 2 x G1 winner), Spirit of Boom(2014 Doomben 10,000 winner) all pretty good catches from last year's race, Damo.

    More importantly, which of the local sprinters could be good enough to beat all comers ? I don't think we have much depth past Gr 3 level, and without several Interstate horses, this race would be only just that.

    Lankan Rupee coming here would be a double edged sword IMHO. I think he would be a great drawcard/crowd puller for the once of year racegoers and ofc the diehards - the downside being that if he holds his current form he would likely be the only interstate horse to nominate!!!

    Current crop? - probably none of them. Hopefully one or two will appear from the bleaches - a couple of this years better 3 yr olds may improve enough off a break with a bit of luck :-??

    If i had a "half decent" horse in the east i would be seriously looking at the big races here because ours certainly dont perform over there. Any thing 4 to 6 lengths off the best in the east would be in the firing line here.
