R1. Westspeed Plate - Scott Embry
Theres no fixed odds available at the present while I write this preview and I doubt many tipsters will go this way so I think I'm a little bit out on a limb when I throw up Universal King as my winner to kick off a very even 2 year old event. Universal Ruler stock have shown promise this season and Universal King was huge on debut, finding himself a distant last on the corner with Staeck forced to pull the binoculars just to see the leaders and smashing out a 34.07 final 600m in a race where Roebuck won by 1.8 lengths with a 34.50. Slightly missing the start and wide throughout second up he was given a summers holiday to grow and mature, his return trial was smart leading start to finish and I think from barrier 2 he could change up his racing pattern and lead them. I love a 2 year old leader and provided he jumps well can give this a real shake. Nobody is riding better than Shaun O'Donnell at present and it could be a big day for the Macalister colours with He Or She primed for listed success. Happy to have Vitalism in for second after a solid placing behind Django. Molto Allegro found trouble on debut from start to finish and I think he's a fair bit better than that, anything near double figures is an attractive eachway price. All 3 Parnham runners have legitimate winning claims as does the Jim Taylor first starter Flying Roar whose had blinkers added to racing gear. A wide open start which I expect to be almost eachway the field.
4. UNIVERSAL KING - 7. VITALISM - 9. MOLTO ALLEGRO
SUGGESTED BET - 4. UNIVERSAL KING $10 x $10

"The favourite He Or She will almost have to levitate to win from here" - and levitate he did Darren. He Or She was impressive on debut but unbelievable second up. Missed the kick, got back in running, found traffic and most spectacularly burst through the pack to pull away and win easily. The 1500m looks right up his alley and listed success is expected by most. Certainly short enough in the market but Sigley is highly confident and I think we're yet to see his very best. I won't be taking the $1.90 TAB are offering, I'll patiently wait right by my 'request' button on PUNTA in the hope of squeezing a juicer price out of the boys or for one of their usual ripping promotions. Testamezzo looks the only real testing material. Personally I thought 1200m was a stretch so to see him finish within a nose at Bunbury over 1400m was a surprise, a field of 6 should help his cause as well as drawing inside of He Or She with tactics sure to play a role at some stage, however, I think he'll have to accept the 20k cheque for second place in a very popular exacta. Street Bandit is a 16 start maiden way out of his depth in a listed event but I think he will be in the placings. Does occasionally wobble around the bend so not too sure how he'll handle the rail but should get a lovely drift up from barrier 1 and be strong at the finish dropping back from a mile to 1500.
2. HE OR SHE - 1. TESTAMEZZO - 3. STREET BANDIT
SUGGESTED BET - 2. HE OR SHE $60
The best way to describe Classical Prince is with his dam's name; Truly Elegant. Another horse short in the market looking to establish a 3/3 record on the track. Both career victories have been all too easy admittedly in lesser company. This is a big step up in class from a midweek sprint with 6 other runners but Classical Prince looks to have the goods. Drawn perfectly in barrier 4 Whiting should have the favourite sitting just off the speed in the one out and one back position poised to pounce. Mireille is super consistent finishing in the money at her past 6 and everything points to her doing the same again here. A nice little banker for any exotic bets. Cool Trade has copped a 4kg weight rise from her first up victory and will find the front and be the one to run down. Lost Heritage will appreciate being able to settle off the speed after setting the pace in the Breeders Classic last start.
5. CLASSICAL PRINCE (NZ) - 4. MIREILLE - 1. COOL TRADE
SUGGESTED BET - 5. CLASSICAL PRINCE (NZ) $60
Im talking about 1000m sprints, I like them Hard and Fast, don't know what you were thinking about?I do love a leader over 1000m and Buster's Empire is sure to go hard and fast out in front. Chloe Azzopardi has a good record when she's allowed to set the pace. Her maiden metro win was aboard McBlitzam when she lead, she's ridden Park Lane to a victory leading all the way and rode a cheeky race aboard Decietful Road on Wednesday before the talented Fushia Bandana got the better of her late. If she can hit the steel and find the rail then Buster's Empire will be very hard to roll. Gottabeyou hasn't raced for a month after a puncture wound on her neck caused a late scratching and a stir at Ascot. She has won 3 of her past 4 and deserves favouritism but may struggle to find a spot in running from the outside gate giving the speedy Buster's Empire a slight edge. Madam Sass, the other David Harrison runner should get a lovely trip from the inside gate and be there abouts when the whips are cracking. Not an easy race, very even group of runners but I'm happy enough on the leader-Pike quinella.
1. BUSTER'S EMPIRE - 7. GOTTABEYOU - 6. MADAM SASS
SUGGESTED BET - 1. BUSTER'S EMPIRE $15 x $15
Wroughted is a model of consistency, a real tough Love A Dane gelding trained by Adam Durrant, he has been racing twice monthly since July and continues to race with heart and guts. Scratched from the Batavia Sprint at Geraldton on Sunday in an attempt to steal a listed win. Gets a massive weight relief from his last two efforts beaten a neck to impressive Natasha winner and nominal Oak's favourite Balmont Girl where he carried 58.5 and marched 3 wide the trip and last start again caught wide from the 600 carrying 59kg. Meets rival Mr Utopia 6.5kg better at the weights from their last encounter and at around the $5 mark Wroughted represents great eachway value. Mr Utopia has relished being down in the weights after carrying 63 and 60kg during the Country Challenge series. Drawn ideally in barrier 3 and expected to give another bold showing. Amorino has won 4 of his last 5 races and his only loss was in the Pinjarra Classic by a head. This is the first time in his career he will carry 59kg, first time he's ever raced over 1500m and the first time he's ever raced out of barrier 1. Pike has the ability to negate any traffic jam he may get into but Im happy to take him on here. Amelia's Dancer is one of my favourites and his second up form is good, no surprise to see him rattling home late. They look the only 4 winning chances in the opening leg of the quaddie.
9. WROUGHTED - 7. MR UTOPIA - 1. AMORINO
SUGGESTED BET - 9. WROUGHTED $20 x $20
This is a brilliant race over 1400m with two of my favourite punting runners clashing in an epic tipping dilemma. I have backed Miki Two Toes at each of his last 9 runs since July last year and once Black Magic Miss finds form I lock her away every week as a roving banker/places multi anchor, finishing inside the first 4 on 13 consecutive occasions early last campaign and she has again found form. Miki Two Toes will lead or box seat from barrier 1 while Black Magic Miss should be able to position up closer to the speed from barrier 5. Watch for Steve Parnham to give her a cheeky tickle around the backside with the stick in the left hand before the turn as she tends to switch off in running and needs waking up. They're both around $5 and no doubt I'll have to back both to satisfy my inner punter. Bombora would have knocked off Fiddlers Elbow and stolen the show with one more stride last start, definately one to include in the novelties. Galiletto could bounce back to form with the addition of Pike to the saddle. Wild Charger drops in class after an encouraging Bunbury Stakes performance. Beltane controlled the race last start and proved too good. Passion Cantatawill stride forward and is a highly capable mare. Dash For Home will be again flying late down the middle of the track as will World Trader who has won 3 from his last 4. A very wide open leg of the quaddie.
8. BLACK MAGIC MISS - 7. MIKI TWO TOES - 1. BOMBORA
Winning form is good form and so I've stuck with Success Story who has won 3 on the bounce and looks as though he will stay all day and find the 2200m right up his alley. Glen Smith knows the horse well and will be looking to find some cover from an awkward draw. Hel Cool got a deserved win last start edging out Shoot For Glory by a nose, drawn well again, the big old fella in the winkers will be hard to get past. Dubai Escapade has a lot of ability and may well turn out to be another 'Pontiff only' horse. Warwick-Harvey is highly attractive to any punter and $7 is tempting after a lack lustre Esperance Cup effort. Shoot For Glory is the bridesmaid more often then not with 10 second placings to his name. Red Mercedes could surprise from the inside draw and a soft run. I Have A Dream is returning from 2 months off but has only missed the money once from 7 starts at 2200m and O'Donnell rides him to perfection, Jarrad Noske aboard Toned should be respected and Magical Mist must be in the quaddie; 8 horses in the quaddie is probably narrow in a very even staying event.
10. SUCCESS STORY - 1. HEL COOL - 4. DUBAI ESCAPADE
High Limit does look very, very hard to beat drawn perfectly in barrier 4 and only carrying 54.5kg. As long as Jason Whiting can find clear running as they swing for home I think he'll be way too good for them. Yet to miss the money in 5 starts at Ascot including back to back midweek victories. If Classical Prince salutes in race 3 then Miller-Whiting will be gunning for a double and the $2.90 available looks like brilliant value. Vitrual Trader is better than his first 2 starts this campaign suggest and I expect him to be the big improver. Loves 1200m and stands out as a very good place bet in a weak field. Lord Hatras is a brilliant bread and butter horse, picking up a cheque at most of his outings. Likes to press forward and sit over the speed and should look the winner at some stage. Oneofus is in career best form having finished within a length of He Or She last start, however, has an awkward barrier to contend with. Not much depth to this race and I'll take High Limit one out in the quaddie.
15. HIGH LIMIT - 9. VIRTUAL TRADER - 8. LORD HATRAS
SUGGESTED BET - 15. HIGH LIMIT $90
Im going to ignore that and have all up it to win, mirielle place and wroughted place at around the 5.70 mark.
That should do me nicely X_X
