R1. Nominate Yearling Purchases For Westspeed Plate - Gary Wright

Jezpark returned to the track a fortnight ago when running a very nice third to the subsequent Magic Millions winner in Cadenza, he gets his chance to break the ice in this first race of the day. He has drawn beautifully here to take up a very nice position in running and be given every chance by jockey Peter Knuckey and that might be the key to him winning this race, as his main rival in Django is drawn a little wider, he also probably goes forward, maybe even makes the pace in this race, but just might have to work a little hard in the early stages to cross from there. Django was an impressive winner first up and these two look set to fight out the finish. Neville Parnham looks to have a good type in Crown Choice, he has been trialling especially well and will be interesting to see what he brings to the table at his first start, howver he is also drawn a little wide over the 1000 metres, and Spiritual Eyes ran a nice second to Django at her first start, meets him a little better on weights but would struggle to overturn that last result you would imagine.

2. JEZPARK - 1. DJANGO - 3. CROWN CHOICE

SUGGESTED BET - 2. JEZPARK $40

R2. Ld Total Handicap - Gary Wright

First Flight has been in impeccable form of late, it took Son Of Something to lower his colours last start, and even then it was only by a very narrow margin, today with Paul Harvey on board he just looks to have these covered. The rise to 2200 metres shouldnt pose a problem as he has been finishing very strongly over 1800 metres and if anything, it probably suits this horse on his exposed form over the last month. First Flight should win this race. Jim'N'Jim is becoming somewhat of an enigma for punters, certainly a little disappointing last start, it appears she is a horse that needs some pace up front to make it a true staying test, and she may not get that here, no real obvious leader and only a small field engaged, but she is always rated a chance in these staying races. Drive West has run a couple of good races at his last two outings, he was just outlasted by Dirty Flirty in a similar race a fortnight ago, and one at odds may be Sax On The Beach, he seems suited by the 2200 metres here, and ran a pretty good race at his last start on Feb 12.

    3. FIRST FLIGHT - 1. JIM 'N' JIM - 7. DRIVE WEST

    SUGGESTED BET - 3. FIRST FLIGHT $70

    R3. Www.westspeed.com.au Handicap - Gary Wright

A few chances in this race. with Lenience one of the better prospects. He has certainly held his form well of late and you would expect another good showing this afternoon. Jerry Noske hops on board today to reduce the weight somewhat and he looks primed to continue the good form he has shown. However there are a few others with prospects here, one of which must be Mireille, who won very nicely last Saturday and once again appears well weighted here carrying only 51.5 with Natasha Faithfull to ride. She is drawn one of the widest and may need a little luck early here but its hard to ignore last weeks win and the postage stamp weight. Thunderclap Newman returns today, he looks a real promising type for Steve Wolfe, you would think the 1200 metres is a little short but he did win first up last campaign before going on to run a very good race in the Guineas, he is certainly one to watch on his return, and Stagnite won very well at his first start at Bunbury, and looks to have well above average ability, he may be at each way odds here.

    1. LENIENCE - 4. MIREILLE - 3. THUNDERCLAP NEWMAN

R4. Westspeed Handicap - Gary Wright

This is a terrific race as the top four in the book look to have really good racing careers ahead of them. In the end the barrier draw sways me towards Bachelors Prospect, he has been very impressive winning his only two race starts as an odds on favorite, certainly his biggest test to date here but he should get such a nice run from this draw that he will be the selection to go three from three. The fact he has started so short is always a guide of what sort of talent the horse looks to have. Kai's Diamond was the biggest certainty beaten in a long long time at his last start, when he missed the kick hopelessly and only went down by a head, he had been most impressive at his two previous starts, the wider draw is the biggest factor against him today, and the slight uncertainty he begins poorly again, but if doing things right, he is certainly in this race up to his eyeballs. Another two good types in the making are Piccolo Joe, who franked some top Great Southern form by coming to town and winning at the midweek meeting on Feb 12, and also General May, who won his maiden nicely at Bunbury last start at only his second race start.

    1. BACHELORS PROSPECT(NZ) - 2. KAI'S DIAMOND - 3. PICCOLO JOE

    SUGGESTED BET - 1. BACHELORS PROSPECT(NZ) $40

    R5. Tabtouch.com.au Handicap - Gary Wright

Silver Speck looks another good ride for Ben Kennedy here, he is well overdue for another victory having been beaten into second place at his last three starts, in all of which he has been well fancied, so if you have been on board its hopefully time to recoup some lost funds today. He charged home last start to just go down to Rantorini, and will possibly race similarly today from a wide draw, just drop back a little and sprint home. I dont think he is one of those horses that just finds a way to get beaten every start as he has won four races from nine starts, just circumstances have been a little aginst him lately, today he gets a chance to return to the winners circle, he looks the best horse in this race. Ye Olde may be the main danger here, he is another that should drop out and flood home, both Silver Speck and Ye Olde will be hoping for pace on up front which Rusty Peaches may provide. Jolly Moss meets his sternest test today, but has been going great guns at the midweeks here at Ascot, be interesting to see how he measures up today, and Wild Charger ran his best race for a long time last start and would go well if racing up to that form.

    4. SILVER SPECK - 13. YE OLDE - 9. JOLLY MOSS

    SUGGESTED BET - 4. SILVER SPECK $50

R6. Lawrence Peter Ferris Handicap - Gary Wright

Grey Cheval hasnt been seen for over six months and returns for new trainers today, will be interesting to see if she can regain the form of yesteryear where she was a very good filly. She does have a very imposing record on the Ascot circuit, which does appear to suit her racing style, she likes to race from the front and the short straight is very much to her liking. The question probably is how forward she is today for this first up assignment, a nice second to the very good Testamezzo in a trial recently may be a pointer towards her being pretty fit, she does have a reasonably good draw to go forward from, and the 1000 metres looks ideal for her, she should be a good each way prospect here. Lots of others with claims including Lee Rani, a similar type that goes forward early, loves the five furlong trip and has an imposing first up record, she should also be at good prices today. Darlington Abbey hasnt fared well with the draw but is a class horse when at her top, and her record at the 1000 metre trip is exceptionally good also. Others with hopes are Busters Empire, Go Ken and Pinnici in what should be a wide betting race.

    4. GREY CHEVAL - 3. LEE RANI - 2. DARLINGTON ABBEY

    SUGGESTED BET - 4. GREY CHEVAL $10 x $30

R7. Skyy Vodka Handicap - Gary Wright

Wombies Legacy has turned the clock back to his two year old days lately, he has been improving steadily this campaign, and it took a good type in Fiddlers Elbow to run him down last start, and that was only in the last stride as well. The key to this race may be the weight, Wombies Legacy has the claim for regular rider Mitchell Pateman where as what looks his main rival in Hearts Of Fire has to carry 59kgs first up. You would expect Wombies Legacy to lead the race and on his current form he may still be in front on the line. The Geraldton galloper Hearts Of Fire returns today, he has built up an imposing record with four wins from five starts, and certainly looks one of the better ones to come out of Geraldton in recent times. He has drawn well as long as Pat Carbery doesnt get boxed in from the inside gate, the experience of the jockey should eliminate that factor, but he does have to carry 4kgs more than Wombies Legacy and it might make the difference here. Vengabus has a very good record on country tracks to bring into this race, but has drawn the car park, and he will require a lot of luck from out there, and the stablemate in War Prince may improve today, he goes well racing second up.

    12. WOMBIE'S LEGACY - 4. HEARTS OF FIRE - 10. VENGABUS

    SUGGESTED BET - 12. WOMBIE'S LEGACY $20 x $20

R8. Crown Perth Handicap - Gary Wright

What a tough way to finish the programme, the winner of this race seems well concealed, and for quaddie punters this is certainly the leg to go wide in. A lot of tipsters will no doubt tip different horses here there are so many in with a chance. I will go with the consistent Traditional Time simply as he has drawn the pole and should get a good run from there, he does race close to the speed so we are eliminating a few factors by going with him. His last run behind First Flight was once again quite good, his first run at 1800 metres and he should give you a sight for your money in the last. Pants On Friar is up in class today, but maybe she can be a smoky here, she has come back nicely this time in with a couple of good efforts on country tracks, and she did run third in the Oaks as a three year old, she will definately be running on at the end of this race. Rive Gauche may try and set the pace and cross early from a poor barrier, he is always a chance in these type of races, and Paseo Del Prado has raced well since coming to the West, another with a chance in an extremely open race to close out the day.

    8. TRADITIONAL TIME - 11. PANTS ON FRIAR - 4. RIVE GAUCHE

looking forward to see how Darlington Abby comes back, seemed a bit disappointing after her first run last prep although did run a neck to Luckygray. If she comes back any where near her best she should be winning.

Agree Toby, best run last prep was 1st up, if she find's her old form should be hard to hold out.

I have no inside information on the following comment, this is purely an assumption.

I am assuming that Fish had the pick of the rides between either Jolly Moss or Ye Olde.

Ye Olde has been racing well lately, but Jolly Moss is in a purple patch of form (albeit is slightly easier company), and is aiming to chalk up a hat trick of wins today.

Maybe there's a clue as to which horse Jason thinks has the better chance of success, or on the other hand, I could be barking up the wrong tree completely :-??

absolute money muncher last prep, lost too much following this donkey the past several months, got nearly double figure odds every start but at the price today (and gate) I wont be on at all
