Bit hard to judge - has been in totally the wrong races to date.
Why on earth were they in a 1,200 at MV ?

If they wanted to go to Melbourne for a holiday they can go anytime

thrill of running in same race as bc, may be the same as the thrill of having a mc runner?

just being there was probably special, then to also compete maybe an added bonus????

or maybe it was just part of the lead up to the grand final?

I thought it was a farce.to be honest.
Can't see any pride in running in it against her
  • careycarey    6,424 posts

well i don't know, i was just hypothesizing.

it certainly looked a special event on tvn.
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
    No, it's just me.
The real shame is we're not actually getting to see a champion horse at her best, because no one (decent) will run against her.
Takes the gloss off her for mine - I'd rather see her racing against the worlds best, or really......not at all (may as well just do an exhibition gallop for an appearance fee).
And what was that crap when they paraded Moods and his entourage out ?
    Just embarrassing.

Its been nonsensical, I think I heard he was coming home now? Hate to sound all Andrew Carterish . . . . but gee

maybe overdone, but that is the effect the horse appears to have.

as for seeing her at her best, well i guess they have no real choice, as the streak probably comes first.

but she has previously raced the best and made them look silly, so don't think anything she does now can take away from that.

if she goes to the tjsmith it would likely be a crack field?

Well I was fortunate enough to be at Moonie Valley last night and what a promotion!! Certainly you need a headline act and she is one. Seems despite the opposition those there and it was a full house were there to watch and appreciate a super athlete. Never have I seen so many pictures being taken including by myself of a horse. The crowd were fantastic and really soaked up the occasion, great for racing and as I always say " there is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man". I saw and spoke to Gino and his horse could not have looked better and cheers to he and the connections for running. This game is largely all about dreams and they are living it. What a night, when BC past the post salmon and black streamers were shot out from the stands and ticker tape filled the air, SENSATIONAL. Wish we could do it in Perth

I thought luckygray was a fair run over 1200m at the valley.
we need to see him at 1400m-1600m before we write him off.

    I was actually defending LG.
Should be racing in Melbourne, yes.

Just saying while I get the aura of BC, I couldn't give a shit about her races. They're just boat races.
Coverage was crap. Was all about her. I was actually interested in seeing the other horses (LG and Donga in particular), but didn't get a glimpse.

Would love to see her race in Hong Kong. Might be a decent test, and one I'd bother watching. (And probably go to)

Didnt she smash a track record the start before ?? Didnt she wallop Hay List at his best and others its not her fault she runs fast !!!!!
What more does she have to do ?
it should be all about her she is a national icon best horse this country has had for a very long time if not ever and very good for a very tainted industry of late with the Nikolic,Ollie, ect ect she is a good news story and i hope they keep it up fantastic
  • detonatordetonator    4,397 posts
Totally agree Dungy. Track record, Hay List, wins in England when injured. Says it all.
I would love to see my horse in a race against the greatest sprinter of all time.
As anyone would love to say they played basketball on the same court as Jordan or had a round of golf with Tiger.
What was second prize in the William Reid ??? Worth having a shot at ???
Having said that. The other Moody runner in the race certainly helped BC, not that she needed it. Karuta Queen could not go slow enough in the frirst 300m. O`donnell was strangling luckygray to stay off its heels. BC had clear galloping room off the rail. Sprint home which suited BC. Luckygray couldn`t get warm. The way the race was run definately needed another 400m at least.

Luckygray would get another 400m in the Jayco Mile on Cox Plate day looks a great race for him couldnt see him being competitive in the Cox Plate against the euros over 2000m.

i thought luckygray was being aimed for doncaster ?? but i dont get whats so special about running against black caviar, all you had to do is pay the nominate and pay up. it's not like your horse is some special chosen one to run against her. I was hoping it would run a second but they should keep him over there now , dont bring him back to the bush.

More than one photographer on course ? I seriously doubt it at that club. Ball park figure would have been all up 20,000 cameras and or video devices in use Friday evening, from just what I have seen on Facebook.

Probably the 25000 at Moonee Valley Friday night would have liked a horse in the race against the superstar. Or maybe the the 30000 at Morphetville last year. Obviously hard to please Devil.
Maybe other scribes agree that racing against the G.O.A.T is no big deal.

Pointless exercise and does nothing for Luckygray's future prospects BC will get a decent test when she goes to the TJ Smith as I can't see them backing away from her in that race and that should be a cracking field but racing against good horses whose premium distance isn't 1200m doesn't detract from her record.

She's beaten and consistently destroyed the very best that are around and still defeated a genuine superstar in her own right in Moonlight Cloud after a long and arduous campaign and having traveled halfway around the world winning on foreign soil while clearly not being anywhere right and racing while injured.

What more does she have to do and to then recover from that and return in possibly career best form is nothing short of astounding.

As for Moment Of Change he has repeatedly shown he's nowhere near the same horse going the Sydney direction so that was no surprise that he's finished unplaced in a very hot race.

I have no idea why it ran , ran a 1200 the other day , waste of time and shocking ride pulled it into the ground , don't know what was gained .

Luckygray won a kingston town over 1800 still would try and stretch it for a cox campaign ????

I think most ppl that know Western Australian horses agree this. Luckygray might go well fresh against out 2nd rate sprinters, but up against real world class sprinters he struggles.
Not sure what the idea was behind going for two races which dont suit the horse. They could have stayed on for another two weeks and took him to Rosehill for the 'George Ryder Stakes' over 1500m at weight for age. Sure he might run into More joyous or decent horses but then they will be able to guage where he is at. Shame for the horse, he now goes to the paddock having his heart ripped out chasing tails.

I always remember Moody saying "Id rather give my horse an easy kill win before he/she goes to the paddock, so they go there feeling 10 feet tall. And coming back the same height". Dont quote me exactly but near enough that. Wonder why he is the top Melb trainer, simple things like that.
