Ascot R1. Facebook.com/perthracing Handicap Preview - Greg Hooper

No. 5 HANG ON HONEY – We start the day with a small field of stayers. (5) HANG ON HONEY has always shown some ability and she put it together to post an impressive win over 1600m at Pinjarra. The step up 2200m should suit and William Pike will retain the mount.

(3) BUS STOP has won his last couple of starts at Bunbury in good fashion. He should measure up in this.

(2) BOBBY BENZINE has been racing in better company and will enjoy the drop in grade. He just finds it hard to win.

(1) WICKED GAME was doing his best work late at his most recent outing.

5. HANG ON HONEY - 4. MILNATHORT - 2. BOBBY BENZINE

No. 2 WAR PRINCE – This looks like the special of the day. (2) WAR PRINCE is a very sharp young sprinter and I think he’ll take care of this field. Paul Harvey should take him straight to the front and if he repeats his last start effort, it will be curtains for his rivals.

    (3) ILLUSION OF LIGHT is a nice filly who won well in midweek company at her most recent outing. She has each way claims.

    (5) KEEP ON DANCIN’ was a dominant winner up the Pinjarra straight at her most recent outing. She should measure up in town.

    (4) HUSSARS is consistent and has first four claims.

    2. WAR PRINCE - 3. ILLUSION OF LIGHT - 5. KEEP ON DANCIN'

Ascot R3. Westspeed Plate Preview - Greg Hooper

No. 7 ANDI’S BOY – This looks like a very weak race and for that reason I’m giving a big chance to the maiden (7) ANDI’S BOY. He’s been luckless at his last couple of starts but has still found the line strongly. This race lacks depth and he represents each way value.

    (6) RACK ‘EM UP resumes from a spell with the benefit of a couple of trials. If he finds his best form, he’ll be hard to beat.

    (1) NAMISUKI is a giant horse who resumes from a spell. He’s more effective over further, however, he did produce a big fresh win last preparation.

    (3) APLORABLE was only fair first up; however, he does have ability and is a second up winner.

    7. STAR OF HUSSON - 6. LICK AND A PROMISE - 1. DANNY RIP

Ascot R5. Skoota\'s 30th Birthday Handicap Preview - Greg Hooper

No. 3 REBELSON – This looks to be a very thin start to the quaddie. I’m happy to be on the three-year-old (3) REBELSON. He was the dominant winner of the Aquanita Stakes over this trip and then ran a game race in the W.A. St Leger. There looks to be a distinct lack of speed in this race so he can either lead or breeze and control the tempo.

    (1) FULL REIGN drops back to 1800m which will suit. He just didn’t run out a strong 2200m last start. His previous form was excellent.

    (6) MIGHTY ROSSA is a hard horse to catch but he can always bob up without surprising.

    (8) MAC IT IS looks about ready to run a big race.

    3. REBELSON - 1. FULL REIGN - 6. MIGHTY ROSSA

Ascot R6. Perthracing.com.au Handicap Preview - Greg Hooper

No. 5 SECRET TIMES – This seems quite an even contest and a lot will come to luck in running. (5) SECRET TIMES was a dominant last start winner when he enjoyed a perfect run in transit. From barrier 2, Marco Chui should have him parked in the slot again and from there he has good each way claims.

    (3) BONESHAKER has been racing well. He’ll get back in running but will be hard to hold out.

    (6) VARIETY FAIR put in an eye catcher first up. If she can repeat that effort she has undeniable claims.

    (1) COPPER REIGN broke a long drought last start and there is no reason he can’t make it back to back wins in this event.

    5. SECRET TIMES - 3. BONESHAKER - 6. VARIETY FAIR

No. 1 RED MERCEDES – There is a bit of depth to this event with numerous winning chances. I’m going for some each way value and putting (1) RED MERCEDES on top. Last preparation he showed that he’s a horse with ability when on song and his first up effort was better than it reads on paper. He was ridden cold over the sprint trip and was doing his best work late. The step up to 1400m should be ideal and I think he can run a race at odds.

    (3) BUSTABILL is always a chance in these types of events.

    (6) BLACK ROMEO stormed home to win the Country Challenge Final at his most recent outing and if he repeats, he’s a definite chance.

    1. RED MERCEDES - 3. BUSTABILL - 6. BLACK ROMEO

No. 6 EMIRATES LASS – We finish the day with a tricky race where all of the main chances come from different form lines. I’m going for the last start maiden winner (6) EMIRATES LASS who was forced to do all the chasing first up but still prevailed. She should get a perfect run from a good draw and will be hard to beat.

    (2) LAURA’S SKY has won two of her last three starts; she’ll sit handy and give a strong kick home.

    (8) SARABI is still a maiden but she looks close to a win.

    (9) BREEZE ROAD will get back off the speed but should be storming home late.

    6. EMIRATES LASS - 2. LAURA'S SKY - 8. SARABI

Their strike rate has dipped since you outed them Carey.
  • careycarey    6,424 posts
that's true rodent, and that was the intent.

the one in the first may be a goer i reckon.

stalingrad should have buckley's and none on current form, but it is WELL connected(depending on how you define "well") isn't it??

Rebelson should be the bet of the day, I just wish they would let him run from about the 700
  • careycarey    6,424 posts
    maybe it's the rider?
whiting according to all my numbers prefers holding them up.
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts
think he got a slap on the wrist at Pinjarra for not riding to the line..so he holds them up and doesn't ride them out!!!!! Thought he would feature in a few more reports if that were the case

they'd better be careful they don;t stuff rebelson.
should be in a paddock, imo.

Why don't you like Rebelson TF? You think he's a country horse at best, is that what you mean?
  • Paulo8Paulo8    253 posts
For me two favourites I am willing to take on today, 'Hang on Honey', never raced further than 1600m and today is running 2200m. 'Black Romeo' also looks like jumping as an undeserved fave, IMO. Despite his last win is not all that classy.

Three races in, total combined advertised start time delay is 6mins 15 secs. In an era of wall to wall racing, Sky continue to be extremely pleased with Perth efficiency

Of course most of that in race 2 when a horse cast a plate.....hardly an issue
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts
in this heat lucky to be getting to the barriers at all.....back to the racing...Busimiss gave up the chase very quickly today, probably a good time to pack her up and get her ready for the bigger races next year.???...

That accounted for 2.5 of the delay, no discernable reason for the rest. Another 90 sec delay the 4th. My point is that its a consistent pattern of mediocrity, but obviously not a major issue for any other particpants so will let sleeping dogs continue to lie

I was more concerned about young Mitchell on the 3rd horse.
