A couple of horses that have been showing promise come together in the opening event, Galaxon coming back in distance from his last run and Leonora Larriken attempting the 1600metres for the first time today. Will go with Galaxon mainly on the 2kgs advantage he will have over Leonora Larriken in this race, he did win well over the mile at the recent Kalgoorlie carnival, by 4 ½ lengths in fact, so both these factors point to him being the on top selection today. Leonora Larriken is only a recently turned 3yo, has had only four starts but has been impressive and won his maiden here at his last start at the Monday public holiday meeting. Two Techniques and Fath Sun look the most likely to fill the minor placings here.

He has been racing reasonably well in stronger maiden company than he meets here and has been coming home well at the end of his races, so we are hoping the rise to 2200metres is no problem for him. If not, then he can break through for a first race victory at his ninth race start today. Grandiosity is a 25 start maiden, another who will appreciate this weak field this afternoon, she has raced reasonably well of late, and gets a chance to break that long run of outs here. Saxon Armada backs up after a second to Toorak Deb at the Toodyay picnic meeting on Sunday, and should run a forward race again today, Dont Doubt Tom is the other possibility for the novelty punters.
5. ANOTHER HOLDUP(NZ) - 6. GRANDIOSITY - 7. SAXON ARMADA
Zedspiel did run a good second at this track behind Leonora Larriken at his last start, and thats about the best form we can find in this field. He is drawn beautifully in barrier two today and looks the best chance in a pretty weak maiden race here. The Parnham boys may just quinella this race with the newcomer Bed Of Nails looking to have prospects also, his trial form in town has been reasonable, and he is also nicely drawn. Its gets a bit harder after that with possibly Saxon Queen some sort of chance as well as General Harvest, but this is a very tough race and not one to be investing heavily on.
1. ZEDSPIEL - 2. BED OF NAILS - 10. SAXON QUEEN
Richtiram Lass did run a good race here last start when second to Mythical Ceres and if running up to that form looks a good winning chance in this race. Once again, not a strong field of maidens engaged here and she is drawn well and has Troy Turner on board once again today, so we will go with her to break the ice this afternoon. Golden Friars has had 21 chances to break her duck, she always is about the place but obviously has found it hard to win, must be a place chance again here in a race such as this, but hard to tip her to win with a record as such. Biscay Bonny returned last week and ran a nice fourth at this track and may be the best of the rest, with Redout’s Diamond another to consider for first four novelty bets in this race.
10. RICHTIRAM LASS - 9. GOLDEN FRIARS - 12. BISCAY BONNY
Maidens once again, and a few of these are unraced, so we are speculating on those a little bit. Joberg Law is one of the few with some race form to recommend him, he raced pretty well last time in when just behind the placegetters at Bunbury, and did win a trial in September in preparation for his return, not very well drawn out in barrier ten, but with the race experience on his side we will tip him today. Our Miss Rio looks a good prospect for Paula Wagg at her first start this afternoon, she has been trialling very well, as have a couple of others in Soaring Wings and Corrijem, not an easy race here and maybe best to leave alone in the end unless you are involved in quaddies.
2. JOBERG LAW - 7. OUR MISS RIO - 10. SOARING WINGS
Monsili ran a terrific race last time out behind Starlight Lady at Belmont and if running up to that effort looks hard to beat today, that was in much stronger company than this and he does look to be ready to win again on that run. Previous to that was a good fifth also in city company to Mossroy, and now up in distance at his third run back will be very hard to beat here. Gypsy Myth is another who has run some good races behind the placegetters in the city lately, looks the main danger to Monsili today. Bobby Benzine is another with claims, has a great record here at Northam, his last start at this track he was a winner back on Sep 13. Time To Front may be the other to put in your First Fours in this race.
3. MONSILI - 4. GYPSY MYTH - 6. HABBERLEY VALLEY
This Helenus gelding has raced just like a Helenus progeny at times, very cantankerous at the barriers, but putting his best hoof forward today should win this race easily, not much opposition to contend with here. Punters will be hoping for a safe getaway and if so can probably get in the queue early. Finally China is pretty consistent, and has a good Northam record and if there is a danger, he looks to be it. My Charader and possibly Cavalcade who does have first up form may be the best of the rest, but it will all depend on the manners of Scamandrius here, if he doesn’t play up he really should win without too many problems.
4. SCAMANDRIUS - 5. FINALLY CHINA - 7. MY CHARADER
out of 5 races so far, 3 of them are wrong, and by up to 1 second, which is of huge magnitude.
if i could have a strike rate of 60% then i would be ultra rich, but a strike rate of 60% for race sections being up that creek, is pathetic.
