We have seen a number of very open 1000m races to finish the program of recent times and this is no different. It is a cracking race for a midweek program and it wouldn’t look out of place on a Saturday card.
EARL OF VASSE is a 1000m specialist who usually races well off these type of freshen ups. His recent trial win was first class and provided Ben Patterson can have him no worse than midfield I think he will be very hard to hold out.
GINGERMAN was heavily backed when resuming from a spell at Northam and after switching over heels and getting into the clear mid-straight he powered clear for a most impressive win. From barrier 4 Jason Whiting should be able to settle him just behind the speed and I think he’ll be very competitive in his city debut.
IDENTITY FRAUD was scratched from a recent Saturday race as he had a minor issue. Provided he’s completely over it he’ll be extremely competitive in this grade.
The wildcard is the maiden BUSTER’S EMPIRE who resumes for David Harrison. He’s only had the one start where he bumped into a talented type back in January. He smoked up in a recent trial and if he had drawn a gate he would have been close to my top pick.
A cracking race to finish the day and leaving out the likes of Jacobyte and Lord Balthazaar from my numbers shows the depth of this field.
Earl Of Vasse each way
