gotta run in something on the way to the cup??

clever if you ask me (if this is the plan of course). can run around in the railway and run 10th and run really really well without being noticed because of all the hype on the winners etc. or go into an easier race and run just as well but either win or run a place and has a flashing light all over him and not get a price for the rest of his prep.

or maybe i'm just over-analysing and they are having a genuine crack at the railway first up.

I dont think Bob Peters would be too worried about setting a horse for a punt.

If you had a horse that could run in the Railway I reckon you would go that way nearly every time
I remember another horse with leg problems (King of Sax) winning a Perth Cup first-up over 3200m. They are obviously trying. Why would they pay the acceptance fee when they could run in something easier with no fees? Definitely worth considering for the exotics

Yes, unfortunately I can't see any of the locals taking it out. Gold Salute and All American clearly the ones to beat.
Hopefully Ortensia runs in the Winterbottom, that way we get a better price on Waratah's.... 8)

    Wouldnt be hopeless Funky.

Gran Nirvana is the favoured horse I dont like - just watching him parade on the telly his past few starts his attitude appears to have gone down hill. Thinking of other things maybe?

Said it before his last two runs, the horse is just plain overrated.

    My two bob’s worth……
Gee, I think at the current price I would be willing to gamble that Ortensia runs the 1600m. She finished off the Stradbroke very strongly going past Marasco on the way. Track was rain affected that day and she’s much better on dry. She got held up last start and got to the line strongly, again only 1400m. Her sire Testa Rossa certainly handled 1600m and her Dam came from Picnicker by Aerate. Picnicker was a strong one pacer trained by Gerald Ryan and won a group 3 at Morphetville over 1600m.
Perhaps if she was 6/4 favourite I’d be banking against her but at the price, on a dry track, with her acceleration, I think she’s definitely value. I think Kasabian will lead but I don’t think the pace will be overly fast. Elliotto will position up well from his alley and Megatic may go forward. I picture Ortensia fairly handy to midfield with cover.
I’m happy to bet against All American off a big peak and up 3kilo’s. Gold Salute is a definite chance. I think Grand Nirvava and Spirited One are the best of the locals.

    This at me?

My analysis - only bad luck/horrible rides can stop the Eastern Staters winning, if not running the trifecta. I don't follow them that strong, but I simply don't think there's anything close to a Gilded Venom in the local contingent - which means if they turn up in decent shape/form the ES horses are simply better.

Who exactly of them depends on ifs and buts of transits/tempo: Ortensia ridden back to get trip?, will Gold Salute jump?, will All American get tempo and cover he needs before pinging?, how much work will SB do to get over? etc etc.

Not that keen to bet on it to be honest, too hard for me. If you held a gun to my head I'd say you had the top two right - Gold Salute from All American.

if Ortensia goes to the Winterbottom, its goodnight Irene. will be a non event simple as that!!
dont kid yourself and look past the obvious in one our best fillys going round at the minute. (scrape into the top 5?)
Waratah's having its fifth race first prep (huge ask), fell in last when The Corp nearly knocked him off!! do you think Waratah's will enjoy the picnic up front he has experienced at his past 4 runs running in a Winterbottom? highly doubt it!
  • I would forget about the last start with WS - they took the blinkers off and he over relaxed and only just got the 1400m

Previous start at 1200m he clocked 1.08.13 - I dont any 3yo has ever run that time in WA let alone older horses

3 weeks between runs will be as fresh as a daisy
  • As already mentioned, if the All American from the Emirates shows up its surely looks a one horse race, but how AA will go after that explosive win no-one knows :?
Tony Noonan and connections shouldn't press fwd to the railway after the barrier draw imo, gonna be a tough to win a railway from 13 but the one positive they can look fwd to is how versatile she is, go fwd from 13 and sit outside the pace or get back and run on if dungys mate C.Williams decides to slot in with cover back in the field.....

Couldnt care about times or blinkers it dead set fell in last start and i relise its back to 6 furlongs but if something puts it to Waratahs up front and with 500k on offer they wont leave it alone then im with Hashy good night Irene as long as Ortensia doesnt have a hard run in the Mile the Winterbottom is all over she would lap that lot

a lot of if's there - guess you can claim an excuse when she gets beat

Not looking to claim any excuse Della just stating my thoughts!!

I'm sticking with Ortensia, going to be hard to beat, if the pace is on this will only increase her chances. IMO I dont think Elliotto can win, backing up a week after a hard run, his stablemate has a lot more chance. Kasabian the best of the locals, not sure if he can run a solid mile tho?
  • ShootherunnerShootherunner    16 posts
Well he has won 3 times over a mile, and once at 1650 - not G1 company, but still he has run it out just fine

Della, looks like we finally agree on something :!:
The only chance any have of beating Waratah's is if he draws the river and he has to do a stack of work to lead....
But would probably be in front after 50m even from barrier 16.....

They will have to smash the track record to beat him :!:
Imo huge overs at current price :!:
I'm already onboard. Will be less than $3 if he draws a barrier.
Down in weight, back to best distance, blinkers back on, has run amazing time and sectionals.
They can't put pressure on him if they can't get near him.....
  • TheFunksterTheFunkster    3,840 posts
Just stating the obvious, but a fair few talented jockeys available if you have a runner on the support card....
  • ColdyColdy    1,720 posts
Money has been for Gold Salute Today. Ortensia is now out to $8, should of waited before i splurged last night. Wide gate better price

Chucked Glen Boss on one of ours same day last year.
Jumped off and said ok, but struggles, won't amount to much.
Came out and won 4 of his next 7 starts all in town, all on Saturdays ! ;)

But yes, grab the opportunity if you can.
How often can yuo get a G.Boss or a D.Oliver to ride your prized possession ???

Yes, but it did get beaten in a 0-64 at Pinjarra at its next start! It's probably more important what Noske said when he got off it that day

I doubt there will be 16 runners in the Winterbottom - lucky to be 10

Why is that Della ? 1200M $500k should attract a full field.

Anything less would be a disappointment.
