Can only the barrier draw stop Aurum Belle? On paper and times run, she is 4 to 6 lengths faster than anything else in this field outside of Maria Lucia.

    This race I have a lot more interest in, some nice 2yo around but Aurum Belle looks a bit better

    I didn't know the barrier when I made this comment, I can't believe it drew so badly. Probably still win. Glad I don't punt.

    Well done if you found the winner. He was 7 lengths off the run of the fillies in the lead up race after mediocre results. Dan Morton has an incredible record in the making for yearling purchases in the last five years.

    Was the horse that missed the kick and was ultimately a massive run in the barrier the whole 5 minutes they fluffed around with the other horse???

    Surely there needs to be a shorter cut off time if your horse just wont go up. Ultimately rewards the horse playing up to the detriment of the one that has done the right thing.

    Beatty had 250-300m to run down the winner but couldn't.

    You are correct barley made up 0.5 in last 350m, though got to give Beatty a bit of an out having to use gas to make up for blown start. Saying that imagine watching your horses replay win & it mentioned it probably shouldn't have

    Worst still still no last 600m results for Karrakatta & no Stewards patrol for the Quokka

    For those 2 races mentioned you could say we were for around 45 minutes "short of a clocker and a Quokka"
    And still none have appeared on the site The Stewards replay for Quokka or last 600m in Karrakatta. Probably more movement at the real Karrakatta than at Racing House  :-S

    Aurum Belle and now Cos I Am, very he price youngsters to then bring over and race in WA.

    Do you need to win a really big one, basically recoup your purchase price and add high end black type or does some of our lower end black type do enough to add more value to the fillies??

    If you are going to retain your black type mares to breed from, like Bob Peters has done for decades, then value doesn't mean a whole lot because you're on a different path.

    What a mare will achieve at sale is powered by a couple of factors. 

    Firstly the family on the page behind her, if it is say just two dams of producers. Preferable to produce black type siblings to your own mare, that franks the form and the pedigree. 

    Secondly it is the level of win, overall race record in lifetime starts. Where those wins were gathered is crucial in my opinion. Black type in Sydney or Melbourne in a deep family page is almost immeasurable in what it may achieve at auction. Unfortunately, WA black type is not valued by Eastern States buyers as like for like, what I mean by that is a Gr1 in Sydney or Melbourne especially in the Spring Carnival could be worth four to five times as much  as a Winterbottom or Railway Stakes. (this is historical based on actual sales)

    I personally would look less on a 5yo and above mare that won a Gr 1 compared to a 2yo or 3yo Gr 1 winner, that that was her only success at the top. If a 3yo mare going into her 4yo season was unlikely to win a Gr 1 again, I would strongly consider retiring her as a 4yo as her broodmare status would be immense. It's a big call to make but that first foal is healthy would be worth $400,000 plus in a yearling sale and that is hard to make after all the training fees if you wasted a year.

    If you were hoping to regain yearling sales purchase price, then in my opinion, a WA black type win under Group level has no more value than a Saturday Metro winner going to sale. Bearing in mind what you paid for her as a yearling is not connected to what she could sell for as a mare because let's say she had 20 starts and won five placed in another 10, if none were black type she would struggle to get really big money. 

    If she won Listed and Gr 3 then maybe she might with a good family page be somewhere in the $300,000 - 500,000 range. Gr 2 maybe towards the $500,000 but Gr 1 $750,000 - 1,00,000 for say a Winterbottom or Railway winner. I might be over thinking it, but a Northerly 1800M Gr 1 winner would have less value as Australia pays more for shorter distance mares as a rule. 

    If she could win a Karrakatta then go on to win Gr 1 like a Winterbottom than that would be as good as it gets for a WA mare. If she could win a Karrakatta then come over East and win something in Melbourne at Gr 2 or Gr 1 then I think she doubles my earlier pricing.

    To your question about Aurum Belle. She had great value going into the Karrakatta but that was blunted by her being left in the wake of two very nice two year olds. Snitzel's have always been precocious and I'm hoping she is better than that because I thought on exposed form she would win that race by panels. I think they paid $750,000 for her and right now I think she would top out at that in a sale. 

    Don't know much about Cos I Am other than the two race wins, but at this moment in time they don't value add that much in my opinion.  The fields were both ordinary two year olds that looked to  be on different paths to perhaps 3yo careers at best.  You can't do much more than win so she may be a superstar that just didn't get to the black type 2yo races in time. 

    Finally I would suggest that buying broodmares straight off the track for an Eastern States Breeding Farm, they need to be recognisable damsires. Of the WA Sires, I would suggest Playing God has a profile that might carry some appeal but I can't think of too many others. The two fillies you asked about are both but the highest level of Stallions and that alone gets them on the radar of most farms looking to strengthen a roster. 

    So to answer your question, yes you need to win good races to get good money.

    Couple of results from tonight's Chairman's Sale in Sydney

    $5.6M for a winning 2yo that ran second in a Gr 2 Blue Diamond Prelude out of a multiple black type mare, in foal to I Am Invincible

    *$1.9M for a Gr 1 winning mare that also won a Gr 3 in a 8 race career, has not been to stud

    *$1.8M for a 7 time winner including 3 X Gr1 and has a full sister that is black type as well, not been to stud

    *more than what they won on the track
