Can someone explain how a team can win the hitouts 70 to 18 yet still lose the clearances.

It may have something to do with Will Brodie being made the scapegoat for the two losses to start the season. He gets first hands to the ball with a quick release to someone on the outside.

There are hitouts and then there are Nic Naitanui hit outs.
For confirmation check with Brownlow Medalist Matt Priddis. Matt wasn't a supreme athletic power midfielder. Just got "silver service" from the great one. :x
In the year Priddis won the Brownlow, 24 other ruckmen averaged more hitouts a game than Nic Nat including his teammate Dean Cox. Maybe Priddis should be thanking Cox for the "silver service".

Funny how with all that Nic Nat "silver service" the Eagles only ranked 10th for clearances that year but I suppose when you've got a superpower like that you've got to use it sparingly.  :))

Damien Hardwick announces he is burnt out and leaves Richmond mid season.
He then goes overseas and comes back 4 weeks later and announces he still has the passion to coach.
After a brief stint back he goes back overseas.
Suns announce today they are sacking Stuart Dew.
    Hardwick conveniently overseas.
Dusty has hinted at moving to the Gold Coast.
Hardwick did hook up with his new girlfriend up at the Gold Coast during Covid hub.
These are the facts and they are undisputed. :-?

West Coast and Fremantle are very relieved that there is a third, long running black comedy playing out at The Gold Coast.....perhaps they are considering hiring the Gallows used to remove the Dew off the grass at Carrara.

Has any franchise, in any sport, ever done anything at the Gold Coast other than gorge themselves on millions and millions of their respective codes cash hoardings or private investor funds, and produced absolutely zero success?

And the CEO's, like all failed CEO's (read "B Grade Spivs") of failed clubs and organisations, ride off with complete immunity, very full pockets and topped up Super accounts, to wreak havoc on the next organisation they intend to revitalise and reinvigorate.

    Just for the record:

NRL....Gold Coast Giants to Seagulls to Gladiators to Chargers to oblivion in 1998
AFL... $30 million from Honest Christopher into The Bears disappeared quick and lively before the merge with Fitzroy to become The Lions...away from the Gold Coast
Soccer....Gold Coast United funded by Big Clive until 2011/12....gone.
Basketball....Gold Coast Cougars to Rollers to Blaze
    Union....East Coast Aces
Baseball ...Gold Coast Clippers to Daiyko Dolphins to Gold Coast Cougars.
They even had a failed Ice Hockey outfit, The Blue Tongues.

The white shoe brigade (not many spivs amongst that lot) and the line sniffers have an enviable record of failure.

Dew far from the worst they have had up there, he built a list from basically nothing, 10 wins last year, 7 so far this year but at what cost to the overall state of the game having vacuumed up so much AFL cash.

Youve been very polite to Skasey their Jay Jay - calling him Christopher

Because Ross Oakley when he was the AFL Supremo - he once said - hey Chris - and Skasey said - look my name is Christopher

Thank god he did. Imagine how dangerous he would’ve been if he tried to walk home!!!!

Whats even scarier is that I was on The South West Highway on May 30th, returning home from GP. Thank goodness he didn't hit anyone or anything. $2,500 fine and a 10 month suspension seems a very very light penalty. 0.414 is above the what they call "should have been clinically dead" reading. Hopefully, he gets the assistance he needs.

yes, JJ, i thought the penalty extremely light. very early evening, must have been some lunch!!

Tonights game Swans v WB - i see the Dogs have dropped  Rory Lobb - ive never been a fan of him

I thought how he left  Frem was very unsavoury - some of his comments - i felt on the outer - considering Frem recruited him because he wanted come home to WA at that stage

Been utterly pathetic for Footscray this year - Jordan Lewis and Kane Cornes saying it was a mistake by WB to recruit him
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts
just like most said it was a mistake for the Dorkers to recruit him..

then again Grundy was also dropped on teh weekend!!

maybe a shift west would suit him ;-)

I thought we played another good game against Richmond

From my lounge it looked like we started with all the old crew in the middle straight after half time …and had 4 quick goals scored against us. If so that’s the major flaw in our team.

The enthusiasm of the young guys is unmatched by many years of experience. The proof of that is Gaff. When he came in his drive for the ball and speed of disposal was impressive and what I’d need in this current game plan. And he played well. In all aspects of the game.

To go forward we need to get that balance of young and keen an old a willing right for next year .and the year or two after.

Most players have a breakout game which gives them a huge lift in confidence.
Brady Houghs game on Cameron last week was an absolute belter.
He came out on Sunday with an air of confidence and bravado and played like a man possessed.
Made a few skill errors but at least took the game on and backed himself in.
    Hopefully he keeps it going.

I thought he was good last year and he’d played a few really good ones this year.
He is actually getting a stronger body too. Gee they have a handful of those 190cm + young fellas that will get those Yeo like bodies over the next year or two.

Get 1 or 2 ready to go younguns in the draft and we should be winning a few more next year. The young ones are doing their bit now

Have only seen photos and no more info but Dew hopped on a plane to England, whacked on some Australian cricket team kit and is on their payroll it seems.

Could the Swans in 14th make a charge or they going too shite? 6th to 14th are separated by only 6 points and Sydney have the third best percentage and a better number than all three who are in the 8 atm.
The eagles double ton win maybe flatters them but they rarely turn it up .. would need to.win their next two if they were going to make a bid, which may be easier said than done.

Dew not on the payroll TS. AFL 360 said any visitors of note get Aussie gear to wear whilst being in the inner sanctum.
Rampie gettting offf at the tribunal last night suggest the AFL want Sydney to make a run at the finals…. ouch.
    ;)

Next two games must win if they do want to make a run the Swannies, I might back their opposition to help them out :D *only if there are bonus bets on offer I'm not THAT silly.

I think that is why they keep him hanging around the club, it sure has not got anything to do with playing football.

I came across a surprising statistic relevant to disposal efficiency.

The top five teams in the AFL in this category in order are:
    1. Fremantle
    2. Essendon
    3. North Melbourne
    4. West Coast
    5. Hawthorn
They represent five of the bottom six teams.

It is obvious that style of play has a lot to do with it as the bottom sides tend to chip it around to retain possession and do not take the game on thus increasing their disposal efficiency without imposing on the contest.
