Was watching live at the time and thought that was the worst fall i have seen in a long time
Racing Vic has been warned continually about fatigue and wall to wall racing, not sure what a g1 jockey is doing at donald on a monday, only thing i can think of is he didnt want to miss a good ride. Anyway, the legal eagles will be circling Racing Vic after the warnings they received.

    May he rest in peace.

Absolute tradgedy . And condolences to all involved. Sadly heard he has 4 kids all under the age of 5.But Vincent are jockeys not basically sub contractors choose how many and when and where they ride?.And i am not making light of a terrible tragedy but a percentage of those riding at Donald today have to ride there to make a living. Just saying

You are correct Spink, they can choose what they do, but they do feel pressured due to the wall to wall racing. Pretty sure Ben Melham wrote an article about this just 3 weeks ago saying its going to cost a life before Racing Vic listen. Wont be the last you hear of it, believe me.

Have a micro interest in one through My Racehorse called Unusual Pearl he rode for everyone and he won on her debut at Kilmore with a peach of a ride in late March.
Have seen quite a few videos and interviews with him recently, geez he seemed a great guy and whilst I didn't know him from Adam I'm fucking gutted for his family :(

Terrible thing to happen - what actually happened - which caused the fall

Its incredible that alot more arent badly injured and killed - - horses are big heavy animals - you get those capacity fields - not much room to move- if any

I can remember way way back when Ken Russel got killed - i think it was the last race at Rosehill meeting - may have been Corey Browns horse  blundered - and theres no way to go

And i can remember when Dulcify in a Melb  Cup had to be put down - and Harry White who won the race on Hyperno - went up to CS Hayes after the race and said i couldnt do a thing about it  - and Hyperno who was half crazy - and overacing terribly - but there was no room - so it just kept galloping on Dulcify hind legs

So jockey deaths are terrible - but im surprised there hasnt been a hell of alot more of them

VINCENT VEGA Quote....not sure what a g1 jockey is doing at donald on a monday,

    Quote from trainer Jon O'Connor.......

I was having a chat to Deano before the race ... I mentioned how many meetings he was riding at and his workload, and he said, "I've got an ambition to ride 100 winners for the first time this season. I just want to crack the 100 and then I'll have a bit of a rest and be a bit more selective" instead of riding just about every day like he was,' O'Connor recalled.

After his G1 victory Dean joked in an interview that he was riding more to pay for the nappies at home.

I’m in Adelaide and the racing community here is shattered. I’ve known quite a few jockeys in my time, and going back to the 70’s 80’s and 90’s, I would socialise with a few and would hear stories from them about how close they came to be injured or killed, which would make my blood run cold.

One in particular, showed me some videos of close calls he had, mainly when riding overseas. He actually broke his contract early, and came home. He said the local jockeys were lunatics, the racing was corrupt, gangs controlled the game, and jockeys would put you over the fence to make sure you didn’t win.

Like many, let’s just say that I have been less than complementary when I thought there was a run a jockey should have taken, but didn’t, and I believed it cost me a winning bet. However, while I probably haven’t been totally cured, as I’ve aged, I am far more forgiving, as I have come to the realisation, that a jockey’s life cannot be quantified in comparison to what I may have won or lost.

The run of injuries in Victoria, has certainly embedded that realisation to me, and now we have the tragic death of a man who is 4 years younger than my youngest son. It is heartbreaking to say the least.

Parents should never have to bury children. I cannot imagine what his mum and dad are going through, just as again, tragically, too many parents during the course of my life, have gone through.

May his fiancé, children, parents and extended families be spared any further sorrow.
And may his memory always serve as an eternal blessing to his family and all who knew him.

Just a note on Tony Ottore who organised the go fund me for the Holland family. He owns all the horses with the name Jenni in them. Again, tragically, he lost his daughter Jenni to cancer. What he did to immediately start the fund and donate $100,000 is magnificent.
