Lee Steere Stakes Day

West Australian Racing
I'll throw a bolter out there for today.

R9: Hibiscuss Lady at $20/$5 seems to be completely forgotten, she is going to be up and speed as opposed to some of the main fancies and its not like she pricks and caves in, I think she is a great place heavy small win bet.
+1 -1

Good to see Gilga have a crack at the races and remember Falcon that J Brown to quote him is 'living the life'

Bit quiet on here again but I'll throw in a few for today

    R4 Conquered Zone
R6 Acting God should win. A little something on Aberdeen Queen at very long odds
R7 Playing Marika and Son of Bacchus to improve
    R8 Stageman
R9 Best each way for the day is Alien From Mars. Hopefully it doesn't get lost in space. Last run better than the duck egg looks and fitter for this. A saver on He's Gold fresh. Zephyra is a very heavily backed favourite

Looking forward to watching the Bustler a promising 3yo run and hopefully win again..small but teriffic field.

Have been closely studying Karlis Karma, she is WAY up in grade could she possibly compete with some of these guns?
Is flying in career best form easily and this may have little bearing but ran beaut time when sailing away last start(fastest 1400m this season I reckon)..last time i looked she was skinny odds however..*ugghh is shorter, 4.40 now.

Barrier 13 of 13 from the mile at Ascot is no easy feat. Unless you wanted him to lead or drag back near last? Maybe he was instructed to try to "race handy and get cover if possible"? You tell us- what would YOU do? Easy from the lounge chair hey champion.

Although he's won a couple of Railway Stakes when drawn out, so I guess you're right.

I presume you didn't back his winners in R2 and R4 which were gun rides?

Not sacking Hibiscus on that run, she held her spot like I thought she could only problem was she didn't land anywhere near as far forward as I thought she would!

On the Carbery ride, I think it was just a really poor decision to go forward from that draw but surely there's more than Pat involved in coming up with that plan??

In the past if one of Bob's drew wide like that they would just grab up, if they can charge home so be it otherwise wait for another day and continue building through the campaign, now it seems pretty regular that they chance their arm. I'm not sure it's the right thing for his horses??

Good to see some discussion on the program anyhow.

Wonder how many points summers mare cops?? Should het a start now you would think?

How many points does Karli's Karma get ? Valour Road ran 2nd last year to Massimo and got 1 point but it was already a 110 rater at the time

One would assume a massive jump, beat home a couple of 106 rated horses and a 101 at weight for age.

There is justification for going as high as 104. If I were handicapping, I'd give her 20 points and move her to 100.
Of course she could have won similar prizemoney by winning in her grade and copping 4 or 5 points but that won't get you into the Railway.

Easy for us to make comments and pot jockeys without knowing what instructions were handed out.

Yeah I was pretty negative on the decision but end of the day they may only get one crack at it with her and she now has a G2 second to her name for broodmare value.

She's a bleeder too, so is a day to day proposition.

I guess that is why they'd go all-in to get into the Railway this year rather than the more patient approach

And good on them too she is flying and you dont often get one chance most get none.
She has grown a leg since the trainer change.
I enjoyed both the feature races immensely yesty 2 horses at war all the way down the straight and credit where due the super reliable Resortman charging late into 3rd in the Lee Steere.
    Massimo was fantastic too.
I think though both him and KK will struggle at the pointy end of 1600..stranger things have happened I'd love to see an underdog win i.e KK

Michael Gangemi said this morning that Massimo won't go to the Railway- is going to the Winterbottom next.
There were some great finishes yesterday, agree

geez that a whack for running second. is it to ensure a railway berth?
  • DamienWyerDamienWyer    7,987 posts
That will get a Railway start, most years 90 is the bottom rated horse. This year will be no different with little or no pressure coming from highly rated imports because it is unlikely be anymore than 2 or 3.

Summer Dickson is under rated as a Trainer, it would be lovely to see her with some quality stock (Bob is you're reading)

Yeah 95 should get a start, the last couple of years the Railway has been a 100+ rated race or thereabouts with many runners under that rating at the time of jumping. If Karli ran a place she would burn a lot of points between wins but you got to have a throw at the dice when a good one comes along, best of luck to Summer and Karli
