Yes he went great and ran time the King regained back some advantage maybe.
Noticing EE not as able to find a good spot early doors JJ this could count in the final, as you mentioned with the barrier draw crucial.
Should be a cracking final hope they both get every chance..a 2 horse war would be epic and great to see.

Huge run the runner up at 100s Uncle Sam in heat 3 he stuck on very well.

King of Swings heat 1.51.5 miles quicker than the others - for mine - the winner and all the place getters in the final will all come from that heat - wasnt impressesd with Expensive Ego in relation to some of the other horses in King of Swings heat

Greg Sugars horse - Triple Eight *3rd - was a sensational run . The 2nd horse ran well also - maybe in the final they keep the lead

And McCarthys stablemate Alta Orlando  - best of the horses in the running line - beaten 12 metres - if it qualifies for the final and draws a gate - its got a really good chance

Can't see much value in the ID Pacing Final....maybe a couple of obvious novelties & a couple of crazy result novelties if the barrier draw hurts the top 2 elects badly & a bit of madness prevails.
Like one in the Trotters Final @ cricket score odds. Just Believe....should nearly have beaten The Penny Drops in the final heat at Newcastle. The difference in prices $4.50 as opposed to $67.00 is ridiculous especially with the Puppet on JB over the 3000m. The opinion is the distance will suit a couple of the trotters......I reckon it will suit JB as much or more than any other runner.

Expensive Ego gate 1, they have 8 on the front line including the 2 emergencies. King of Swing  got 3 on the back line. If the 2 emergencies come out, does that mean a 6 on the front, 6 on the back scenario or is there a shuffle up with KoS moving in to the inside of the back line?

Cheers, I didn't know the conditions. Think 3 on the back suits KoS better than inside back row but it is Expensive ego's to lose if he runs up to form from that draw ....potential for pressure but I think  it would only be sacrificial unless it comes from KoS.

I cannot believe the hype ( or it being joint favourite ) with Expensive  Ego

Have a look at its form card - back in the winter at AP -   in the Blacks A  Fake - it was 50-1 and King of Swing was $1.22

Its only had about 5 runs since - went 1.55 for a mile and a half at Menangle - that isnt quick - not at all - and i thought its heat win at New wasnt impressive at all

King of Swing - has got the runs on the board- plenty of them - and in big races  and is a far superior horse for mine

The interesting thing is - if Luke is umming and aaring - which one he will drive - then if i were the Perth owners of KOS - I would put Gary Hall jnr on - because trainers who have multiple runners in big races - they allways look after the stablemates - it like a team effort - where as if you put Jnr on - then buggger the stablemates - KOS - will be driven to win

Luke McCarthy listed for the King, David Moran for Ego. Think the 3000m suits KoS, he is outright fav on Sportsbet, Ego suspect at 3000m if any pressure but his run at Bathurst was extraordinary. Think they are both super horses, run in transit will be the story but it is a long run in at Menangle.

This is Pure Steel v Rip Van Winkle all over again - and in all fairness  to RVW - it had far superior form to  Expensive Ego - it had done and won alot more prior to being crushed by Steelo

A 1700 metre race win at Bathurst - wow

King of Swing to win ( however there are a few knockout chances - who ran well in KOS Newc heat win ) and Expensive Ego wont run a place

1 sleep to go, To you knowledgeable guys will EE lead I would have thought yes that's a must from the inside? Who takes him on breezing Triple Eight? Or Boncel Benjamin who was on speed 2 heats ago? The latter could be gassed late but I reckon they won't die wondering with him.

I'm backing the King currently around 2.05, when will McCarthy push forward with about a lap to go/halfway? Earlier? Later?

Max Delight a place after hopefully doing no work in the run watching world war 3 unfold in front.

The King will decide the race with his manners I think. 3000m gives him a lot of time to latch onto the bit & get marching against McCarthy who becomes a passenger when he winds up. If he overraces then there are plenty of sit kickers that can get him late down that long straight. His draw helps him if they go hard for a while early.....the longer he stays tucked in the better .....once he gets going there is no backing off. Ironically his biggest weapon over the 1609m ...a top echelon high cruising speed is what can bring him undone if he can't drag the kick out of his opponents over 3000m....there will be a sit kicker somewhere who will be close enough & done no work. I won't be surprised if the winner is a "maddy"

Now with emg. in gate 2 scratched. Aitken camp have a opportunity to   ply a   slight tactical advantage  if they wish  by holding the breeze until they settle down which would give the stablemate a pie run.on his back Max Delight  then depending when KOS Comes  whats his next move. Because outside of that  E.Ego could just lead hand up to  KOS they will then have 1,2, 3 the marker line,---- need a dustup early.

Only time i enjoy Menagle is this distance with top horses competing. Only time a favourite has been beaten in a inters at Menagle was Monkey King who ran second to Blacks a fake when he won his fourth inters.-----ha ha  terrible stat.

Just going to have couple first four tickets with a  likely scenario one-- plus a wishing  one.

Did somoene say EE is a pretender...no more! KOS looked like the pretender, guess the bloody barrier draw did have the final say in the race though it looked like the winner was just too strong especially for the king no more..
Thought Boncel Benjamin might run a race, did not have a zac on it though.

EE could lose this on protest, real live chance for Boncel to get the nod.

Lot of firsts...protest upheld in an Inters Final, Boncel pays $54 and last March, it was running around in claimers in Victoria??? Joins fellow Inters winner Mr Feelgood being sired the now defunct sire Grinfromeartoear and the $270k first prize easily eclipses the total stakes previously won by Boncel Benjamin. Gate speed is everything at that skate park.

Wow, didnt even realise there was a protest stuff me, did see some change of direction didnt give it much thought at all.

Yeh does that lessen the race Boncel Benjamin winning JJ? gather your not a fan of the Menangle track?
  • JayJayJayJay    8,624 posts
Too hard for horses coming from the back Thunder,  when they run sub 26 last 400m on top of a sub 27 400m before that. If you go early, you gas your horse getting there and then get parked. KOS pulled once he got up there. The track is just so fast and over a journey like 3000m, up front on the pegs is the only place to be.  I don't think it lessens the race, I hope it doesn't, Dandy Andy didn't devalue the Australian Cup but Benjamin has grown a leg or two since heading to NSW. It's not like Mick Stanley can't train but you would never have picked him to win an Inters in a million years. There have been upsets before and I can see why they upheld the objection. Thought Expensive Ego was pretty much gifted the lead, the draw definitely helped him. Will be a more seasoned horse next year when maybe Ride High, Lochinvar Art and Magnificent Storm or Shockwave are entered.

Yes Benjamin deserved to get the race on protest but I wonder why the driver didn't come down the outside anyway. Plenty of time as the entered the straight.  It would have won clearly.

Think young josh new exactly what expensive ego would do. He did the same thing at newcasle.

In all fairness - that was a pretty poor call - broadcast - by the oncourse caller

If that was George G  in his heydey - when they hit the line - he would have grasped the point/opportunity - and he would have been telling the world in an exclaimed voice - look this is a sensation - this is how they have crossed line in the Interdominion final  - but !!!!

I mean blind Freddie could see that Moran cut the other thing off - and he knew he was a big chance of losing the race - because there was no excitement from him whatsoever after they crossed the line

Yet the course commentator kept saying about E/E being the new kid on the block - where as most viewers were thinking it will probably will lose on protest

As for the Menangle track - make it Market gardens or something please

Be interesting what Moran would be charged with----nearly bordering on foul driving?

Won't get into the merits of the call but agree George would have been all over it. Sound effects mike sounded like it was in a crowded public dunny the first lap. Pretty easy call for the stewards, if that didn't get upheld, nothing ever will.
As far as the series go, and trying to be objective...well, it was up against it from the beginning, injuries to Ride High, Lochinvar Art, no NZ reps or WA, covid borders and the like, so a big plus that they pulled it all together. Thank goodness KOS and EE punched some interest into it, otherwise a snoozefest. Another positive for the young driver Gallagher, doesn't matter that it was an ex claimer who has grown a leg or two, could be Fat Tony The Pony because in 30 years time, he will still be in rare company, an Inters winning driver, so good for him. Also though Belinda McCarthy gracious in her public comments post the reversal.
And Marko, as a couple of opinionated old fellas, there is often not a lot we agree on....and that's a good thing, free and open opinions, great...but on Menangle being turned into a market garden, well I couldn't possibly agree more.. There appeared to be a fairly sparse crowd, it is miles out in the sticks and I know GP has it's issues and all that but from a stupendous height, it and it's racing craps all over anything coming out of that skate park. Run the next final at Bathurst, that looks to be the best track in NSW. Oh and another plus, some NSW official I heard say that they will NEVER Ever change the 3 heat system back to that abomination someone dreamt up prior to WA putting the Inters back on track. Horses handled the series extremely well, as we all knew the tough old standie would do on its ear.

    Was waiting for it.

SMH journo Chris Roots has declared Jason Grimson as the future of harness racing however PP declares he and his owners are cheats as Grimson won the Interdominion with a claimer he had for two months He also states they should all be outed.
  • freodockersfreodockers    2,667 posts
    Outed for what reason???
  • JayJayJayJay    8,624 posts
I am almost tempted to pay the subscription to read his rants. PP has a theory and an explanation for every race about some imaginedteam driving, rort, crook or as yet undetected drug.  We have got a resident conspiracy theorist who calls the rorts "live" as he is watching the trots at PubTab.

According to him, about 6  out of 10 Gloucester Park races are boaties and every single country race that an odds on favourite wins is a benefit for all the other drivers, who (so he claims) have all backed the fave and don't try because "they don't travel all that way for fresh air". The worrying thing is he doesn't drink, these are sober assertions. Amusing for a while but very ho hum after a while.
