Firstly Aussiereds72 your an uniformed imbecile. I’m not defending BJ as simply he was punished and he he served his punishment end of story. What I will say is I know him through his work outside of racing in another industry no one even knows about. This isn’t an exaggeration but he personally has been responsible for guiding 100’s of men out of addiction and continues to do so. His integrity since his rehabilitation undeniable. He gives more time to this side of his life than he does his professional career.
I suggest you take your issue up with RWWA but they along will everyone understands he was a top bloke just caught up addiction. This other man you speak, how is he unselfishly serving the community post there low point in life ? BJ is a deadset legend and helped save my life.

Funny how it is forgivable for one ex druggie who also stole yet another ex drug addict was thrown to the curb for life not permitted to work in the industry in any level, I all for second chances but why is it 1 rule for one and one for another

Homeboy your missing the point when people are punished they take into account remorse, history and potential of reoffending. I’m this case the time fitted the crime because BJ is now a credit to himself and the industry. Answer the question how is the person you are referring to act when caught and how his he using his experience to better the community. Hope he is doing well and hasn’t spent the last 10 years in resentment instead of bettering himself.

No point missed at all he shouldn’t be in the industry fullstop plenty of other people have been banned for life for less than he was just because he’s paid it back and helped people should allow him back in the industry at all it’s a disgrace I understand you are probably a friend but if shenton is banned for life then he should be aswell no matter what’s he’s doing

Reading between the lines and not knowing either of them, it’s a bit difficult to try do better if not given a second chance.. sounds like Stuey had his whole career and lifestyle taken away from him for a bad choice made not to mention the worst that could happen to any bloke out there and that’s losing his family, again by poor choices made on his behalf… drugs are obviously looked at and treated differently to theft which is strange cause in some cases people choose to steal because of drugs
  • I feel, reading the comments by some of you, that you are so perfect and have never made mistakes in your lives. You are so quick to judge other people and seem to love digging up dirt on people. Some of you seem to have a dislike of my son but do you even know him or what he does now. Those of you who have an issue with BJ should stop living in the past and stop muck raking not only him but also the other racing people you have mentioned . Of course I defended my son as a mother would as I think he has paid his due to society. So time to stop the hate.

Don’t see hate just see double standards one is allowed back in the industry and others aren’t it’s a disgrace and of course you will
Defend him do you know what others who are banned for life are doing now ? I very much doubt you do. If he’s allowed to win awards and be allowed back in the industry the Stuart shenton and others should be just because he’s helped others shouldn’t give a right to be back in the industry

  • For your information: the west Australian May 11th 2012.
Former leading race-caller Stuart Shenton can finally walk back on to a racetrack after spending the past 17 years on the fringe of the industry he loves.

Shenton was warned off in August 1995 by the then WA Turf Club committee for bringing racing into disrepute when he sold a small amount of heroin for $50 at Ascot racecourse.

Yesterday Racing and Wagering WA's integrity committee decided Shenton had been punished enough and lifted the ban, allowing the 57-year-old to freely go and have a bet on course.

Shenton said his desire to attend race meetings was based on wanting to support his daughter Jess, who is married to top jockey Steven Parnham and recently gave birth to the couple's first son, Ryley.

"I wanted to stop being an embarrassment to my family," Shenton said. "I am very proud of my daughter and I don't want her father to appear as an undesirable.

"I want to be able to mix with the people I once did and not hide behind trees. I lost everything in my life that day for $50. I am amazed at how nice people have been helping me come back."

Shenton rose from humble beginnings to become WA's No.1 racing voice of the airways.

All of it went pear-shaped when he was convicted of supplying small amounts of heroin and developed a drug addiction.

He served time in jail for selling heroin.
"I am looking forward to going back to Belmont for the first time on Saturday week," Shenton said. "I enjoy a few beers, but I haven't touched drugs for many years."

So 17 years for Stuart who for $50 worth of drugs and The other stealing as a servant and is allowed back and involved in the industry after 55 charges and not a suspension from RWWA and think it was 30k so $50 gets 17years and 30k gets nothing makes sense not

Think people are having a problem establishing that their anger should be aimed at RWWA, and not BJ. It is important to remember that he did not decide his punishment, RWWA did. I’m happy to see both men doing great things, and I personally don’t know both, but would happily sit down and have a beer with them.

Correct me if im wrong. But didnt Stewie try to do some racecalling for one of the North-West clubs. But RWWA put a stop to it.
If that is the case then he is still serving his penalty i believe.
    And for the record.

spink, you must remember BJ is part of old racing royalty and his mates and family have rightly come out in his support. i would say "hoops" is a current or retired jockey.
when you log in all you have to do is look at the number of guest members having a look. as i just logged in there was me and 14 guests...i've seen up to mid 40's....probably including rwwa staff and a few stewards...
