Virgil Queen Celebration

Harness & Greyhounds
Nice $14k race for C class horses in honour of the great mare Virgil Queen this Saturday at Northam as a part of a 9 race card, good to see.

By colonial super sire Aachen and tracing back to a thoroughbred mare.....and she definitely had a bit of a throroughbred look about her, she was a force in fast class ranks in the late 70's after zooming through the classes when there was a genuine handicapping system.

Winner of the 1978 August Cup, the Brennan Cup, dead heating for 1st in the FTC Members Mile at Richmond Raceway in 1.59.6 around the tight circuit, won the Mt Eden Sprint in 1.57.9, the Stratton Cup and a Tatts Cup.....and the fast class ranks were extremely deep in that era. She could sprint and stay...a 2nd in the 3200m Easter Cup and 2nd in the Winter Cup, a grand mare by any measure. Sadly, she didn't breed on but it is fantastic to see her memory honored by Northam Harness Racing and WASBA. The Rifleman will be looking down with pride.

Looks like the Track Curators Template was adopted for Northam last night, horses running home in 56.6 and the like would suggest a superb dance floor. Rather than getting into Parisian, the two that came from the back both terrific runs in a very competitive event, good racing.
