WA Racing has a new Minister, will he sell the TAB ?

West Australian Racing
Paul Papalia has been named by the incoming Labor Govt as the new Minister for Racing and Gaming. So my only question to him is, "are you going to continue with the suicidal notion of selling the WATAB ?".

The Industry will be torn to shreds if it is allowed to happen. The groups advocating it are doing so because they were led to believe that it was inevitable, and they had to get on board or nothing would be gained from the sale. But to sell the WA TAB would be just abandoning any hope of a future for our Industry.

Paul Papalia has also been given the tourism portfolio which coincides with McGowans pre-election commitment to support racing in WA and use it to boost tourism.

Tourism WA needs to support racing over the carnival and also the Inters. Perfect time of year to promote to eastern staters (Spring, Early Summer). The Asian market could be big too as they love a punt.

This was presented to them previously and they knocked it back. Just hope it gets a better reception with the new Govt.

Has there ever been a Minister for Racing and Gaming that has ever been to the races, or had a bet and a beer, or actually know about the industry, and has Sky Racing on their TV, or (part) owned a racing animal, or had fun at a racetrack, I think not.

Any chance you will be seeking a meeting with him to air your grievances once he settles in Diva?

You may, and I stress may, get a better hearing than you did while the Libs were in power.

Well i have just wet my pants laughing at that nonsense. The Labor party have a good grasp of the Racing industry and all those blokes involved, McGowan Mick Murray and Papalia have a good grasp of what is needed. Last time they were in power didnt Carpenter promise a $5million Railway Stakes but nothing else happened. Promises promises but fk all will happen from either party. And the Greens wont let them support racing as they are hellbent on stopping it.

don't think the greens will have a say in the current government and to have a positive chat with a sitting government is as good as they can expect after the past 3-6 years.

Still think it will sell and still think it will be the best way forward....but whatever assurances the government give can be overturned by them or a new government in a blink of an eye...as per Tasmania...so the deal to sell has to be a good commercial one, with next to no assurances or reliance on the government for regular bail outs....which would bring its value down to a lot lower than would be hoped for. IMO

Greens irrelevant (thank God) in any Govt decision making, given 41 seats held by current Party.
Mick Murray massively anti-sale (check his Facebook chapter).
    Richard Burt suggests current Govt
more amenable to a decision based on best-case scenario for Racing as a whole, rather than the hellbent position Liberal Party held on 'sell at all costs'.
One of few positions I agree with current Govt on

Seriously they dont need theGreens. Better check how many of the 41 seats they won with Green preferences. And in all states and federally the have to pander to their partners the Greens whether they get 41 seats or 4041. They upset the Greens anywhere anytime they have problems. And they did say. Mcgowan that is said in November 2016 that he was happy to sell the TAB.

Given this is a racing forum, I'll keep this brief.
You can argue the folly of the Greens very existance and lack of plausible policies with me all day long.
Regardless of how they arrived there, Labor have a clear majority and rely on no one for Lower House policy assistance or approval.
Papalia and certainly Mick Murray would be more across the issues around racing and any potential sale in direct management (at least one would hope), and possibly also in creating a more consultative approach and eventual decision.
The Greens would (and should) be kept away from any potential decision regarding anything, anywhere, anytime.

Mick Murray :\">  :\">  Legend of Collie is Mick.

Good thing about Mick. He has actually owned a few racehorses in his time and understands what the industry requires.

    Incorrect.
Labor don't have a majority in the upper house.

carey who thinks the greens are no dumber than the other dumbos.

and they care much much more for what i feel is important than the others do....so there!!

and of course racing is NOT of any importance to me!! not any more, and it is on life support anyway, despite what they may say.

as it looks like a political forum then......
labor has lost its soul, and the cons never had one.

    we had a crap season.
although i got 3 fledglings today.

no lark though, i think greens are not too smart, but the others only care(govern) for themselves and that is why our fine country has gone to the dogs, and why inequality is greater than it has ever been.

and it's true that racing is on the way out.
i am a long way from being the only person (like me) that has walked away from it all.
you might keep your average joes, but the big boys are leaving in droves.
i am against privatisation in most instances, but they better sell the tab, while they have any big customers left!
your tab is what the tassie tote was like, is what i am told, and look what happened to them.
extravagant rebate givers, is my information, although i am not too sure how right my info is.

Short memories on here. Richard Court got the **** and Geoff Gallop's  Labor Party with a big anti privatisation of theTAB punting platform push no small feature of that political win. RWWA was born out of that plus tax relief etc etc. Completely revitalised the three codes. The LNP have fiddled while the TAB has burned...Court....Barnett.....wowser B grade administrations searching for a benefactor

Revitalised the three codes! Now that is funny. The TAB HAS BURNED? Now putting more back into the industry than ever. Lets just use the facts not who you barrack for politically. Certainly dont remember any anti privatisation  having anything to do with Gallops election.

i agree with all the above but we must all realise that Labor are financial dimwits..fiscal cripples.

just watch what they do to Colins legacy which was ALL for the benefit of WA..the deficit will be....God only knows.

that roe8, demolished by a few hundred rent a crowd scrubbers...the MAJORITY of residents wanted it..the old story of the VOCAL minority.

if they think Canberra will come to the party they are in la la land.

    they will flog the TAB.

Best part about the Bell tower my signature from High School fired into one of the pavers surrounding it. All got ripped up for West Claisebrook Cove though.

Nice try Falc but......Golden Boy Porter.....Snifter Buswell.....Nitwit Nahan......in concert with the perennial B grader Barnett plundered the coffers, snuffed out WA's AAA rating and blew the deficit to 40 billion and rising. Prior to receiving their marching orders they wanted to flog everything not nailed down to shove their fingers in the fiscal dyke they created. Including the TAB. Abject imbecile pretenders who couldn't have run a corner deli without burning it down for insurance purposes. Enjoy the footy.....you and I will be still paying for the new stadium when we cash in our chips.
