Can somebody explain why running the Hannans on the Wednesday after the cup rather than the Wednesday before means more people will be on course. Makes no sense to me.

Thanks Thunder I've read it slowly this time.

Hasn't the Hannans always been run the Wednesday/Thursday before cup weekend?

If so this is not a change so how do crowd numbers change?

Presumably the crowd numbers they are expecting to increase because Cup is Saturday.

Can go back a bit further guys where I'm pretty sure for years and years the Hannans was run on a Tuesday.

Its not always been run on a SATURDAY. By being on a Saturday more people can go there and spend Sunday getting home, i'd be guessing!?!?!?!

The round was end of august first week September wasnt it . So seems they have shifted it by about 3 weeks. A few years back the KBRC had the cup as a stand alone Saturday meeting this has also changed the last couple years i think

I didn't think cup crowds were an issue cup day and hence thought they were referring to hannans day crowd. Perhaps they are talking about the round as a whole and the 3 week shift. Might be trying to avoid footy clashes.
  • detonatordetonator    4,397 posts
The dates now avoid the footy finals. Only really impacts if the W.A teams are in finals at home.
But to me, the Cup being on the Saturday is a return to common sense. Party hard and have Sunday off to recover. Will definitely attract more out of towners.
Hannans on the Wednesday as opposed to the Thursday, no big deal.

talking of country carnivals...I know the motel owners/ restauranteurs/coffee bar owners/ retailers/publicans and the general business owners..service stns etc were shat off when the Bunbury round was changed from the stakes on Tuesday and the cup on Thursday. folks would stay for 4 days, trots, calcuttas, golf...now they go home and MAYBE come back..or the other way around.

Dead right regards bunbury falcon both rounds have lost there identiy  ....Kalgoorlie racing is on its knees, the racing,& fields sizes have been determined by three trainers in the past five years fernie, harding, bermingham jnr. with these three suppling up to 50% of the runners at  some meetings    ....How silly to think this tinkering is going to fix what.....Last years round was destroyed by  the dropping of supporting races from 20,000 which they had raced for from the 2008-2015.to 15,000 and other classes 16,500....disgrace 17 of the 23 races held over the  round had field sizes of eight or less runners.....

Plus programs east of perth were programed round week...one at York wed.  21 sept  90 horses raced, day before the  hannans 22 sept......that's not bad enough 26 sept 91 horses raced at northam .day after kalg.cup....for stakes of 15,000 for maidens&the last four raced for total stakes.

Seems powers to be are trying to suffocate the round out of existence,Theres 380 page book
title "the round".A HISTORY OF THE FIRST CENTURY OF RACING ON THE GOLDFIELDS...leave it alone  and get the government to heritage listed  the  week and pay for its survival,
as mark of respect for our goldfields pioneers.

Early nineties northam race club used to receive money   from k.b.r.c.not to race, more than northam made out of holding there Thursday  race meeting during round week....Don't expect rest of w.a. to come to stand still round week,.... prizemoney will fix  90% of the problem.

The history of the round should be protected by the operators of the business miniumn stakes over the round should be  25,000... to gurantee city parti

.Very lucky nev parnham, & steve wolfle stay loyal to supporting the minor races at the round the power house Williams team only participate  in the features,as do the majority of the city trainers.

Operator still on computer "L's'...Trainers aren't going to kalg. for 15k.&16.5k...when northam is racing for 15k and its last four races were for 17,500.,day after the cup...

    Meeting should be programed
south of perth  during round week...Switch the Coolgardie cup back to its original distance 1600m,
trainers can then  make a decision with they push on to the boulder cup of 1760m or freshen up, and drop back to the 1400m of the hannans 17 days later.....Trainers won't try and drag a1400m
horse and race him at 1760 of the Coolgardie cup,as it is now....where the1600m around kalg  is
    possible for a 1400m horse.

Was on the Sunday last year and I think is again this year.

Kbrc is run by a board now, and is directly benefiting those on it. They need to raise the stakes on the big meetings to attract the crowds again, I hope they get it right this year but can't see it. Apparently they had a marquee there all last season which was an oversight as it was not utilized and cost the club alot of money

Bean; When they lost heart+soul contributers to the k.b.r.c.,The  likes of david prance, glen forrest, ian loxton  alan young, noel gerrad who is still active with museum, numerous others that didn't  have hidden agenders

This once most progressive and leading provincial race club is  plunging into depths of despair..and no short-term fix is going to save it.
The cunning   manipulation & infiltration  of recent committees,of this former proud club, the boil is coming to a head and ready to burst ....
Form students who on this site that go crook that certain clubs haven't got there trials vision up prior to there first meeting....Don't go looking for k.b.r.c..  trial results they  are not having any.  Normal form students generally shy away until form lines start to pattern form after 3-4 meetings with trials allowing you to fast track opinons on new horses that have shifted to the region through there trial's process, young horses, gain invaluable exp. syd+queens..horses  gain reverse lead leg  exp  none the least  safety aspect appraisals from every angle   etc......
But due to the heavy rain the region has exp. over  180mm  (7inches) since jan.1  downtime  of
training track   with  unavoidable track closures, and sand tracks being washed away and having to be resurfaced on the eve of the first meeting  ......Something on a positive note the grass track is in tip top order, for fat horses.& and fit ones that have been properly prepared by city trainers,
prior to there kalg transfer....Bean the marquee was purchased and installed for over 300k. for one-two day usage, as opposed  to hireing  one ,Where hoping paddy hannan has his reincaenation in there with a coolgardie  safe in one corner, maybe good for stanley trimmer practise   .....To tamper with round is beyond belief..

Sound like a few not happy with the board at kal.  Who are the board members are a link to ?
  • savethegamesavethegame    3,216 posts
Truth of the matter the new board members, are the lambs being led to the slaughter, poor buggers are trying to push start a submarine ,...Fernie got stuck on board but his merry men got off in time..
Don't no if the damage can be repaired.. These  a lot serious issues confronting k.b.r.c. as to being
able to maintain racing on a 5*timeslot on sunday afternoon without  strong support from  the metro area re field sizes,....

Anyone that was intending to set up for X amount time   come  across the availability of on
course stabling as a problem,as over time the houses that did have x amount stabling in close proximity to the courses have had the stables removed...
One of the clubs  previous  leading sponors,re trainer has to build his own stables  on  course in a quest to build his numbers up.
The fat controller is in charge of stable allocations none for people that present a danger...Stakes
dropped last round no  competition needed from city trainers so hence 17 out of 23 races had eight or less runners, really good for turnover the lifeblood of the business,....hannans had 16
boulder cup 13. kalg.cup had14runners.So novelties punters were lucky the features were for good stakes as it would have left them three races to bet in for three days of racing...I can go on&on.....Hence these new board members getting brainwashed to alter the layout of the  round.

Anyone that was bought up on the buzz of round week understands what great a carnival it was.
The head body has apart to play with the success of making individual  clubs cup weeks a hotspot.. Gero.Albany, Bunbury...each one of these cup days should start with 35,000 maiden.make things happen....

The count has just started 57 acceptances for 7 race card 3 from metro-area who might've been nominated with the intent to stay in kalg.....What is the actual policy regarding extended nominations was of the belief  6 was always the number that was cut off  point
after extended nominations had been called the race would be deleted.....Been told race
    1. at this meeting only had 5 nominations and wasn't extended to allow extra noms.,so therefore will race with 5 horses and who has the final decision?.....Few trainers aren't happy as one stable has 3 of the 5 runners, happy to hear the actual rule ....K.B.R.C.
first crys of help can be heard....some new when to hit the ground running...

why would other trainers be unhappy about 3 runners from the same stable in a 5 horse race?
If they were unhappy they should have nominated a horse. If they are not in it.. then what does it matter to them?

It's not correct anyway, all races were extended except the 1100m class 2.

A lot of the stakes money issues over the round are to do with RWWA and distribution.

Sorry diva didn't give you much to work with on the 11-6-2017 the 70+ was changed from   the 1760 m it was programed to be run  over ..it  Became a 1400m. The decision was made due to numbers concern 9 horses, ran four ran from the premier stable now not much has changed in a fortnight re numbers concern but all of a sudden the 1760 is alright with 5 runners and three from the premier so other trainers are unhappy due to changes and rearranges are made to suit one stables interest...

Umrum will check but think it was the kbrc  board decision to change minor races stakes  over the round, but think rwwa got them to tighten the belt on  the features
    over the round..
  • umrumumrum    2 posts
the main issue is rwwa never supported the round versus perth racing, in fact they gave PR $100k compensation due to the cup being run on the saturday when they could have given that to the KBRC to bolster stakes for the minor races. There's no doubt it's a tough time for raceclubs and racing in general at the moment.
