Do you know the reason behind no ANobels this year Damien .Never really thought about it is he a shuttle sire and missed coming here that year

Best asking John Chalmers or Lynward Stud.

I've been reliably told that the enormous amount of discussion on this thread is only matched by the number of interested buyers that visited over the weekend!!!!
I thought last year was goign to be a blood bat for the breeders, but it ended up okay. I had no opinion on this year as I've had zero interest...

I hope that the buyers pour ourt of the woodwork in the next 36hrs

Was plenty of people there yesterday.
Busiest I've seen it in a long time.
Whether there's money behind that (hope not, I'm buying, not selling) or not - we'll see.

Great to hear...As much as i don't like all of them we do need to have a healthy breeding industry over here. Just got told that yesterday got busier as the day went on...so a good sign.

Yep. As long as all of them, except the ones I want to buy, sell for heaps - great result !  :x

this might be the bad year i thought last year was going to be...Not good and hope for a bit more interest tomorrow

170 lots catalogued.....113 sold. Clearance rate of 66% with 13 lots withdrawn....Says it all

I'm tipping that Lot 351 the I Am Invincible Colt out of Miss Solis will still top the sale making more than $350,00 and perhaps more than $400,000.

I remember watching Miss Solis win a number of races as a 2 year old under the guidance of S.A Miller and his team at Aquinita. Based on the racing career's of Miss Solis and I am Invinsible alone, it is not that hard to work out that speed (and plenty of it), will probably be one of the main attributes that this Horse will be posessing.

Now without knowing a lot about the rest of the family genes, do you think this Colt will be able to win over a bit more ground than M.S and I.A.I were able too Damian? I am interested to hear your opinions on this for sure :-?

    I'll take that bet.
    Very upright.

Wouldn't think any further than 1200M as he is limited by his lack of size currently. Whatever he sells for it will most likely be overs as is the trend here.

One horse in the first three dams too.

I didnt go but watched it on the live feed between apointments at work. With the clearance rate, were vendors not willing to meet the market?? I suppose with the platinum westpeed etc there is no point giving them away, mite be a better option to hold and race and hope for the best?? Be interested to have some input from the breeders or those close to them.

Who a lot of the buyers were. And some of the prices paid for some very ordinary stock. No rhyme or reason that i (or others i have spoken to) can understand some of the sales figures!?!?!

I'm not here to offend anyone (as i may have in years gone by) or cause anyone to get their backs up so i am not goign to name the sales i am talking about. But some just didn't make sense. You say 65%, if you account for all the buy backs and pre-sale deals done..I reckon it would be under 50%..
    Bloodbath...is spot on....

Doesn't worry me because I'm a buyer, not seller - but pretty obvious with only 1,700? Mares covered - 400 "premier" yearlings is too much.

I'd suggest reduce to 250 or so, spread over two shorter evening sessions (say 3:00 - 7:00/8:00).

Keeps all the buyers there for the duration, and more competition for less, but higher average quality lots.

In saying that....... up to the breeders. They're possibly the ones insisting the higher numbers are given the opportunity to go to sale.

In the past i have not agreed with that theory Tivers, but after this i cant see how they can have it saturated with horses next year if the buyers just aren't there. Glad i have 2 yearlings on the ground, with all 4 legs facing the right direction...if they get to the track i may have a chance next 2 yr old season!!!!

Not Vendors failing to meet the market in many cases, just nobody bidding to meet at any level.

Magic Millions need to address their selection criteria for stock. Perhaps 100-150 in Premier Sale stock and then another 150 in Day 2 stock. Interstate buyers were already flying home with over 100 Lots to sell today.

The National calendar is compacted into too small a time frame. Unfortunately, this sale has worn the brunt of that decision. What would be so wrong with a complete rethink of when this sale is held ?

I agree with MM comments about having a better Stallion prospect or two in the years going forward, but for now Breeders need to turn over mares as this sale was full of far too many mares well past a desirable breeding age.

The complex is quite simply third world.

So it's not just one thing Rio.

oh Damo....was a long way short of suggesting that there was a silver bullet. There is a lto wrong with how and where this is held. I thought most studs had turned over their mare selection process, but i now realise that some just turned over their mares and replaced them with similar ones!!!!!!

Anyway, tough market and they need change.....Who knows, if i was MM , I'd seriously be considering my involvement in this market going forward...

There will be a lot of breeders NOT selling in Perth in the next few years unless something dramatically improves.

Are there any that were passed in  that would interest anyone.

Surely these breeders would like to do some deals on a lot of these now.

I thought i saw quite a few nice ones passed in, but with no cash,i had no interest. And that was the main problem. There just weren't enough buyers for what was on offer..IMO
