MEDIA RELEASE HARNESS CHIEF STEWARD CARL COADY

Harness & Greyhounds
Friday, 16 December 2016

Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) and Carl Coady have agreed to bring his contract of employment to an end effective today.
A matter recently came to RWWA’s attention in relation to a failure to properly inform the General Manager Racing Integrity, Denis Borovica, in a timely manner in relation to the handling/management of confidential information which resulted in an internal investigation. Whilst there was no evidence of ill intent it was determined that as Stewards actions must be above reproach at all times, the employment relationship would be finalised.
Given that the matter relates to confidential information RWWA is unable to provide further details at this time.
Denis Borovica will be working with the Harness integrity staff to ensure the team continues to operate at high level during this period. Recruitment of a Chief Steward Harness will commence after the Christmas period.

I reckon one of the leading trainers won't be to happy with that decision. May bring some things back to some where near an equal playing field.

Reid Sanders come on down ?

If they were fair dinkum about it at least on a 12 month contract until they found a suitable replacement.

What about Ray Murrihy - he was a trotting enthusiast as a young bloke

I will never forget when he got the senior job at Albion Park - he said i gave a bloke 12 months on my 1st night !!

Ray Murrihy gave me 2 weeks at the old York track. I deserved it but Ray was a plonker in the room at the time. Tried to make out he was a sage experienced old man when in fact he battled to set his pork pie hat on straight

Think the head steward from harness Queensland was stood down recently pending an enquiry too. Mentioned it previously but the stewards from NSW a few years ago take the cake! What a fair dinkum disgrace they were.

Riders ;, Them boys were playing Hollywood, stewards Bentley, O'Toole.Steward bentley used to rock up to work wearing $3,000 Armani suits.Found to be punting in  thousands at   star city casino. There  lavish  lifestyle was a result of giving corrupt trainers, drivers&punters a huge advantage in orchestrating betting plunges.   Thats why integrity units were put in to place  make sure the game was run correctly. Not to work hand in hand with the stewards, only together when issues surfaced, where both parties could contribute  to  helping solve misdemeanour's  for   betterment  of the industry.Thats the way I see it.  .

Yes for sure. In NSW the head steward and one of his offsiders took bribes not to take swabs from certain horses...not on a one off basis...it had been going on quite awhile. Horses running around doped up under full knowledge of the stewards.Greedy cheating grubs.

In fact if you read up on it...and said to a Hollywood screen writer...make a up a film about this he would say no...it's too far fetched. Truth is stranger than fiction.

My summation - after reading the quotes from Carl Coady in Saturdays West - where he stressed it was such a trivial matter - and he fears he is on the scrap heap re his future in racing

They must not  have been happy with the job he was doing - wanted to get rid of him - and have used a technicality - admitted by both to sides to be trivial - to legally finish him up

There may be a bit more to this from what I hear....maybe a couple of instances where "technicalities" may have been breached going back a little further.....termination of contract is pretty severe and would not have been done lightly in today's era of "wrongful dismissal" cases that seem more prevalent.

Dennis Borovica didnt give much away this morning on TABRadio when quizzed about Carl Coady's sudden dismissal other than to say it wasnt a corrupt offence.

Mr Borovica. Did say he thought his stewarding career  was not over , only with rwwa.Sounds like a hospital pass to me ., Room getting made for new chief.Surely a decision of this nature would have sealed his fate as steward for ever.

    Carl was
released on a trivial matter is factual. An owner put a $10.00 first 4 bet (4
horses boxed) on a race that he had a horse running in, and did not include his
horse that was rank favourite. The horse did not finish in the first 4. Carl
investigated the owner and the bet and found it was not worthy of reprimand.

    There
is a lot to dislike about the Old Boys Club that is RWWA. It is still run like
    a government department.

Borovica says Carl’s stewarding career is not over…what a guy.

Now now, that isn't seriously what happened is it? So a trainer threatening to beat the shit out of a owner on a racecourse is not worth investigation, but a $10 bet is? There are some real dumb phucks in the investigation division.

Too many rumours circulating and no guarantee that Paulo's information is correct but RWWA really do need to be more transparent on this issue.

  • Hey there Perth Turf Talkers!
This is my first post. I have read your comments for years with great interest and thought it was time to get amongst it. Lots of knowledge, experience and opinion posted on a regular basis which is a very enjoyable read.
On occasion I do get the odd bit of mail from the RWWA inner sanctum.
"They" say there are three main names doing the rounds for the Harness job, Barbara Scott from Adelaide, Michael Zarb from NSW and Ross Neal from NZ. Personally I haven't heard the names mentioned very often other than Neal who resigned in July after some pretty interesting allegations.
    Only time will tell!

Will be pretty well assured if Neal resigned with no accustains proven, but lots of dirty hanging around him.......he'll be the one that gets the job!!!!

Although your not Barbara or Michael are you????? hahahha The conspiracy theorists are still alive and breathing on here!!!!

    Reid Sanders....
  • Definitely no Sanders. He was going to come for a 3 month stint as reported earlier but that was knocked on the head prior to Christmas. For him to come full-time it would take double the current salary they are offering. Surely it would be a big step back for him? I believe he is a director in a gallops track surface company which is doing very well for itself world wide so his interest would be low you would think? Head of the three codes might be a different story though?
