The CEO position at Perth Racing is a poison chalice. They just won't take up the role.
Is it time that Perth Racing was put on the open market. The members don't need to be kept in the loop.
It seems appropriate to consider some extreme measures.
Assets get sold, Cash gets spent. Hand is out. What is left. Not many assets and the cash is dwindling.
Rumour has it that this year will be a financial disaster. Can we get some clarification from a fully paid member.
The Belmont Park redevelopment is in dire straits. The Government won't be held to ransom.
Would the WARRG representative leader take the role. He seems to deal well with politicians and those with limited intellect.
I believe that Michael Grant and Neil Pinner have had various encounters in the past. Maybe this is a unification that could work.
I think this should be pushed at the next election. Just vote Grant as CEO. I say this because PR would have wasted at least $100k headhunting CEO's in the past.
Grant has a good relationship with the Committee as they all know he is far smarter than them. He is also close friends with Colin Barnett and more importantly his close friendship with Richard Burt at RWWA will help mend bridges between the two entities.
If Grant isn't thought of then would Grant Burns consider the role. He is a true action man. Burns, a native of New Zealand, knows everything about racing and he is a lovely looking man. I saw him in Queensland over the weekend. He performs well under pressure. Also he would come cheaper than the many CEO's who have been touted to fill the role that has been vacant since Venetian Princess was carrying big weights to win as a two year old.
If PR get the right CEO, they might have to look in Siberia for an appropriate candidate, then we may be a chance of having spring rolls, pork buns and dim sims on course. Everyone loves the F & B man Tony but he refuses to re-instate dim sims. I think an action man like Grant Burns would fix that up. I am not sure about Michael Grant, he doesn't look like a lover of Asian cuisine. Maybe the Track Manager could grow some bok choy in an unused area. Chicken and bok choy with garlic sauce. That would be ideal for the menu.
What happened to the track man John Waslin. Has he left PR. Most trainers comment favourably about him but the word around Queensland on the weekend was that he hasn't been seen about of late.
All will be revealed when the PR leaders return from Hong Kong later in the week. They may be on the lookout for a CEO with Asian qualities to assist with the Asian cuisine.
I am sure that the travelling contingent would be first class all the way. Only joking, they couldn't take the **** could they. There would be a revolt.
There could be a big story brewing. Why are the PR leaders in Hong Kong. No doubt Scoops Manning will get the story. I can't wait.
Perth Racing join forces with Hong Kong Jockey Club to build a grandstand at Belmont Park to facilitate Asian cuisine tours overlooking the Swan River. As long as we get dim sims and chicken feet.
Will the Fairy Godmother make an appearance at PR this year.
I love my grandfather. He is 92. He has 6 kids and 16 grandchildren and quite a few great grandchildren. He said earlier today that the racing industry is imploding because of bad management across Australia. He said the greyhound issue is caused by SKY Channel. That caught me off guard but I suppose when you need content. He also said that racetracks have failed over the past 30 years in looking after on-course patrons and that administrators concentrated too much on prize-money status. Sometimes we think the old are just that. Today I realized that wisdom comes from experience.
I don't have his wisdom yet but he provided me with common sense. It has just dawned upon me. My 92yo grandfather should be CEO of PR. The members would love him. He is going deaf, so he shouts. He still smokes like a chimney and drinks whiskey after midday. He doesn't dabble in sex anymore as he has had a few prostate issues but he still adores looking at girls.
His life is centred around his vegie garden, looking after his chooks and walking his boxer, Gimp, around Mt Pleasant. His sense of humour is a great asset. Gimp is six or seven and Pop got him from down South after he was run over by a tractor which ultimately injured his near fore.
Are we any closer to a CEO at PR?

Surely Wolfy wins "The Post of the Year".

If not perhaps the next CEO of Perth Racing could commission an exhaustive study into why not.

I read on the blurb I got from PR which stated Julien Sullivan is the acting CEO. I thought "who is this guy" so I googled him...

what an impressive CV...read the thread "sun sets on Julien sullivans time at ..."

if he ain't the guy they need i'll walk to China and bring Ben back some oriental nibbles....

Last week at the track was possibly the worst Saturday crowd i  have ever seen at Ascot... and I've been going to the races for 30 years.

What is the marketing dept head honcho doing to try and get people to the races. Love to know what marketing they did for St Patricks Day. Last year that day 4400. This year 2050.

Field sizes too...when was the last time there was a few of those excellent wide open 16 horse fields that we use to get for 3 or 4 races on a Saturday. 6 to 9 horse fields - no thanks. All around Australia a saturation of races has killed field sizes. Quantity and quality is evaporating. Throw the gates open too. Nobody goes anymore why bother charging them. Get a few more in and have a bit of atmosphere. Might get a few more families going and that's not a bad thing. Just opinion!

Being in Sydney on the weekend, and having gone to the races in melbourne many times, it became clear to me that racing in Perth is not seen by the people as a day of entertainment. I think this is both a public attitude issue and a PR service issue.
On the weekend in Sydney, there were large groups of 20 somethings all together having a great day out of drinking, eating, punting and entertainment. I have a few mates going to the Valley tomorrow night for Easter Thursday night racing. Ascot tomorrow night, how good would that be? I reckon pretty good.
Another standout thing to me, talking bout Sydney now, is that the horses are presented as the super athletes they are, with the winner being introduced with jockey and trainer to the crowd after the races, with the masses cheering and clapping. There is a certain appreciation we don't seem to have or get here?

Should be free entry except for the 6 main days.

^^ Also don't go overboard with admission prices on the 6 main days. That frightens people away too. Keep it within limits.

I agree, should be free the whole time, major days nobody would mind paying $10 or $15. I stopped going to the city races when my horses weren't good enough to race there however, I only used to go for max 3 races or 2 hours in total. No way would I fork out for a social day for 2 hours and pay the entry fee, its represents no value. Saw a trainer post the other day that onion rings were $9..... $9??? where the f*ck are these onions from? Ring up Tony Galati and you can get 20kgs for under $10. When the people that have to be there complain about the value or lack there of, you need to have a look at your business model.

I think I went to one race meeting last year, but I can't remember which one it was. I simply have no interest in anything run by Perth Racing. It's overpriced, non attended, patronising, one fantasy story after another in respect to the future of the club, and for the most part, an ass kissing exercise for the purple circle.

Now that I work night shift on most weekends, I blissfully sleep when the races start and almost nothing interests me in changing any of that.

Damian you say you only went to one race meeting for the year yet you seem to have a lot of opinion which you are certainly entitled to, but if this is the truth why should PR listen to what you say ? I go every Saturday and whilst I agree with some of your comments you seem to be the person who complains yet would not go to the races even if they did what you wanted ? We need constructive criticism at PR because they are not going real well on their own. The 70s and 80s golden days will never return no matter what PR spin will tell you and the sooner we have a election and get rid of colin the better for our racing

And what will Mark McGowan do that is not being done now. Apart from what they currently get from RWWA. Mark wouldnt know where the race tracks are let alone what betting is.

I'm a member, been a total of 5 times this season....Not been to 1 prime meeting as you can never get a seat, and on the 5times we've e been you could not get a seat - non restaurant seating - to have a meal at.

If they cant accommodate their current membership, cant attract new members, and the big one - over the past 10 years of dwindling attendances and memberships(fully paid ones) they still cant run at a profit...................................then what, and i seriously do mean WHAT needs to be changed??? PR is structured wrongly for the industry they are in...They need restructuring, but it wont be with anymore of my hard earned.

I doubt anyone within the current system (and i say doubt as there are a few new ones) has the capabilities to get them out of the 5hite.
Based on their pathetic attempts to become profitable, i will never take out another membership until the changes they promise become real. The main one is turning a profit for the club......with depreciation taken into the figures..Ted had a believe that you ignored depreciation. Oh and now look at the state of hte facilities!!!!!

I took this picture of Grant Burns on Thursday morning.
As you can see, he is the ideal candidate for the CEO position at Perth Racing.
Young, fit and he carries weapons.
These weapons are necessary when dealing with everyone who conspires against Perth Racing.
Look at the picture, I am sure the Action Man is thinking of his next calculated move.
He would be thinking, "I will get dim sims on the menu, possibly dumplings".
That is what I want to hear from Burns.
Work with the F & B man Tony and get the Asian cuisine. Don't work against him.
Look at the picture again. How determined does Burns look. My God he could take on ISIS.
He comes with no baggage. He gets through every challenge looking forward to the next.
Look at the picture again. He knows what to do with a knife. That is important as committee's rarely work well together. Who will be the next one to get knifed in the back. Not Action Man.
Imagine if committee men walk around the course on race day. Action Man is by their side.
"They don't have my favourite sandwich". No trouble for Action Man. Knife to throat, "one more word out of you and you're dead". Committee man doesn't worry about complaints and Action Man again saves the day.

Image result for action man images
Another advantage of Grant Burns is his ability to morph his persona. If there is a perceived attack from ISIS he can adapt. The picture above shows our Action Man as a fundamentalist.
This message needs to get out to all Perth Racing members. We need the Action Man.
He can deal with any problem. The plumber will help him internally.
I am sure the F & B man Tony will be on side. The stumbling block will be the dim sims.
What about Darren McAullay. Velvet tonsils. He could assist the Action Man.

Image result for michael grant images

Picture of a very young Darren McAullay. He looks a race caller and he could handle an incendiary device

He is No 1 Ticket Holder with Perth Racing. I am certain Burns could equip McAullay with the necessary weaponry. McAullay has the vantage point to launch assaults on patrons, members, committee and those on the periphery.
My grandfather is keen to take up arms as well. He stated yesterday morning the he would patrol the grounds with Action Man however Gimp, his beloved boxer, would need to be by his side. I am not sure how that would go down with authorities, having a dog on-course. Action Man can make the changes.
Pop and Gimp would provide tremendous entertainment for patrons who detest 40 minute gaps between races. Gimp loves humping legs of strangers, he would love Ascot.
Pop refuses to go to Belmont. He says it is too 70's for him. He'd rather go to Karrakatta and let Gimp off the lead.

Image result for old man images
Picture of Pop. Sometimes his sense of direction is out but everyone gives him a little leeway. We are a happy family.
They tell me the Track Manager has planted some bok choy. He must read this column. He is getting good help from track staff. He was spotted by the Action Man working out with the OSH girl at Ascot the other morning.

Image result for cameron sutherland images
Picture of the Track Manager in a provocative pose. I am glad it is hand only. It wouldn't look good if it was a mouth shot.
What is the penetrometer reading for Saturday? It is all starting to look like the plumber has a lot to answer for.
Happy Easter punters. Give strength to Perth Racing by praying for the Action Man.
    Everyone needs a hero.

Image result for grant burns images
The Action Man Grant Burns. He is a lovely looking man whichever way we look at him. Dressed to the nines (with a weapon) in this picture or simply as his alter ego Action Man (always with a weapon)

Tonight is the night when racing form analysts are contacting each other re tomorrows meeting.Rains forecast, some reports are we are going to receive 50-100mls,Shall we expect to bet around dry trackers and put the extra work in now?No one wants to concentrate on any of that.My six calls tonight have all met with the same initial question.Who is BEN.Who is this funny guy who seems to have an agenda cleverly disguised.O.k here's a plan i've come up with.If the rain forecast arrives none of us will be wanting to bet on a wet track so why dont we all put $50 in and first who reveals who Ben really is wins the pool.Keep those cards close to your chest Ben
