I have been following the new whip Rules and watching a lot of races and it appears that all riders when they are been interviewing are complaining about how difficult it is, which by the way I agree. Just wondering if this will get very annoying for the listener and Punters a like, have they been told to keep this going? Also noticed Jarrad Noske who has a terrible whip action and is one of the main culprits in WA that he was warned in consecutive races yesterday but received only reprimands, how many reprimands will they get before a fine?

None better in WA in my opinion than Jarrad. Others may get better rides, but he is as good as they get here.

As far as the new whip rules go, don't get me started. In the first at Albany on Friday, margin was a nose, BK jockey of the runner up protested against the winner citing excessive use of the whip, and the protest was dismissed. Can't wait to read the stewards report, and see the explanation.

Joke of a rule and the sooner it is abolished the better.

He has a very old school way of hitting them and it catches the eye of officials and I know by talking to many people that his name has been continually  mentioned by many over East officials, it is very old school and looks bad on screen. Not saying anything about his ability it is just his over aggressive laid back bash them to the line at all costs, also another one over east that has had to change is Craig Newitt, they are both very old school whip happy riders.

Victorian jockey tees off on whip rules

Jason Benbow has questioned the new whip rules

    Victorian
jockey Jason Benbow clearly isn't a fan of the new whip rules, suggesting they nearly
cost him a winner at Traralgon on Sunday.
"It's not really fair. We're there to ride winners, not count how many times [we use the whip]."
    Jason Benbow, 6 december
    The rules,
which were introduced on December 1, allow jockeys to strike (either forehand or backhand)
their horse just five times up until the final 100m. From the 100m mark to the
winning post there are no restrictions.

    Aboard
$5.50 chance Value Of Justice in race four, Benbow had his mount
travelling in second position after using five strikes well before the
    final 100m.

    Rather than
risk incurring a penalty, Benbow waited until the 100m mark to hit Value
Of Justice again. Once he did, the gelding clearly responded, finishing
    well to
claim a narrow victory ahead of Internship.

    “I must
admit I didn't think I was going to get there. The whip rule really hindered
this horse's chances,” Benbow told Racing.com.

    “I spent my
five hits getting around the corner and early in the straight. I probably had
to wait for a hundred metres before I could hit him again.

    “When I
did, thankfully he found a length and that was the difference.”

    Benbow, who
was reprimanded for striking a horse six times before the 100m mark at Benalla on
Saturday, said the new rules put added pressure on jockeys who are “there to
ride winners” in a industry driven by betting turnover.

    “When you're
a rider, you are put under a lot of pressure to obviously win races and we're a
betting turnover industry. When you're out of hits and you're facing penalties
it makes it very difficult,” Benbow said.

    “I rode a winner
yesterday and I hit it six times and got reprimanded. If I continue to ride
like that, and you might only it once over, I'll get a $200 fine.

    “It's not
really fair on the rider. We're there to ride winners, not count how many times
[we use the whip]. Obviously we want the best for the horses but I'm sure the
rule could be tinkered and fine-tuned and they could come up with a better rule."

Would a 5 times before the 200m and then 5 times between 1-200m be a better option??? Some horses need to be woken up long before the straight and then for the entire straight...

If he had lost the race on Saturday, would he also be fined and found guilty of not riding his mount in a manner to give it every opportunity to win??? Only joking I know he wouldn't but it is absurd to only be able to trike it as required within the last 100m

The jockeys should have had a strike if they feel so strongly about it. I get the feeling that the good jockeys will just get better with this new rule and the not so good will fall further back. However I think the rule is stupid, I don't like it.

Looks like the first action by stewards is a warning, followed by a reprimand. Beyond that I assume there is a fine and/or suspension heading their way.

Great opportunity for natural leaders to kick clear before coming onto the straight and put 2 or 3 lengths on the field to see who can reign them in without breaking the rules!!! So all I need to find is a front runner with a smart jockey on it.......tipping winners always sounds so easy!! Hahaha

General: Apprentice Molly Clark pleaded guilty to charges AR 137A (5)(a)(ii) The whip shall not be used on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100 metre mark.
With the specifics being that when riding BLACKVICE at Pinjarra on the 24th January in Race 5 she used her whip on 2 additional occasion prior to the 100m mark and further that when riding SECONDMENT in Race 7 she again used her whip on 4 additional occasions prior to the 100m mark.
Apprentice Clark was suspended for a period of 10 days on each charge with the penalties to run concurrently and the suspension to start after serving her suspension for careless riding of 13 days which begins midnight 26th January and to conclude midnight 8th February, and will then continue this suspension for a further 10 days to concluded at midnight 18th February. During this suspension period she is to attend regular tutelage with the Riding Masters. Further after giving consideration to Miss Clark’s record since the introduction of the amended whip rule Stewards order that on her return to riding should she breech Rule 137A(5)(i) or (ii) within 30 days of resuming race riding she be stood down with immediate effect and return to Trial Riding with further tutelage and may only return to race riding when the Riding Skills Panel is satisfied that Apprentice Clark will be able to comply with the restrictions placed on riders with regard to the amended Rule.

Another win for the fat jockey brigade.

A natural light weight that will always find it hard to push a mount along as well as a heavier weighted jockey. She's a similar ilk to Faithful (taller, but similar wieght!!!!!) so will always struggle to have the strength to push horses along.

Such a stupid rule on so many levels

This is a Farken joke surely
    :-O

She gets 20 days for hitting a horse 7 times over the limit (In Two Races) and if she does it again she gets stood down.  Give me a 2 minute conversation with these Retarded Stewards.

What would these hero Farkwits with a Vagina (Stewards)give say Pike, Harvey, Knuckey($750 fine I Believe),Hall, or Noske.

Which horse would you rather be. One ridden by Clarke and hit 50 times over 600 metres or one ridden by Noske and hit 20 times in the last 100. Cause the lad can certainly hit em

They always seem to be harsh on the minnows, but only moderately admonish the top class  seniors.

Different rules for different riders. Always been the same. How many warnings do the parnham boys and Willie and Pont get. More than anyone else

I have had a look at both rides in question, and while she did use the whip marginally more than allowed,, I believe she was trying to urge and get the best from her mounts.
Had she not done so , they would have questioned her for not allowing her mount to run on its merits.
The stewards need to re look at this and reduce / modify her penalty.
  • LeglessLegless    5,108 posts
what we are not privvy to is whether or not they have had a "quiet" word in her ear a couple of times and she has not taken heed :-??

    seems a bit harsh otherwise

should be in the stewards report if they had a word with her
Faithfull got fined 1st meeting back from QLD, fined 2nd meeting an suspended 3rd meeting.
Be nice if she got warnings like the Golden Boys

Not saying they aren't guilty but it should be same rule for everyone

It's ridiculous. Either enforce the rule harsh or scrap it. 2 sets of rules at the moment.
