Caufield Bumper Cars

East Coast Racing
It all looked a bit Rafferty's today at Caufield.....I'm no steward but there were plenty of bumps and "adventurous" riding. Schofield, Dunn and Lane all got 10 meeting suspensions and are out until October 26 (2 metro and 8 country) ....and a couple of others were lucky. Ride of the day ..Michelle Payne.

Really? The horse's record at the distance isn't that great. From the barrier he was always going back and at that price was a risk. I don't know why everyone thought he was over the line? I backed the horse in the Rupert Clarke Stakes at 5-1. He drew perfectly and he threw the race away. No way i'd butter up again at 6-4.

    Severely reprimanded.

How do you get in trouble when all he did was try and stay out of trouble

The stewards report is a beauty....basically, we know you didn't try terribly hard, and its not how you normally ride and, it looked really bad ....but ....it's all okay, nor further action.

Looks like he basically told them to pull their heads in

Purton told stewards he was taking runs as they presented but was being buffeted by horses.

"I can't go over the top of them, I'm not in a helicopter. I had to wait for the runs."  ;))

That's why it's called ride for luck," Purton said.

"I've won a lot of races riding for luck."

Wonder if he wanted to add " You Idiots" to the end of that image

He didn't move until the home turn. I love Zac but he is kidding himself if he says he was seriously trying to win. I bet he didn't even come close to breaching the whip rules.

:-??   @therealkramer  - however the stipes expect it to be ridden the same way in the Cup :-?

They can't and won't take the race off them if it isn't though. They basically accepted Zac's dubious excuse without punishing him. He can argue it's a totally different race-which it is- and what can they do? Nothing, again. Now if Zac had caused another runner to check off heels he would've been suspended immediately.

The only thing they could do if he storms home in the cup down the outside is to revisit the ride from Saturday. However the whole thing is a waste of time imo unless they look at every ride where the runner is ridden "dead"

@tony and they damn well should. They talk about integrity but they rarely take any action on such rides save for a few high profile cases i.e Willie Pearson, Craig Newitt, Danny Nikolic. The safety of punters' money is of little concern to the stipes. For the record I didn't back Fame Game- I may back it in the cup after saturday though. The smoke signals couldn't have been any clearer imo.

I'll be on it - its times over the last 1000 compared to the 5 in front of it stand up pretty well for a horse ridden "cold"

how can a horse be "crook" in a race worth a million plus.

yeah, I know, the penalty but what if it breaks down or draws 22?
