Channel 7 Coverage of Golden Slipper

West Australian Racing

Now don't get me wrong, the coverage doesn't in any way affect the outcome of the race, or the passage your horse gets in the race. However, I was sitting at home on Saturday, having a punt and watching the Channel 7 coverage, and I was appalled by:
  • The Race caller, seemed out of his depth, and
  • The camera angles - I didn't have any idea where the horses were on the course, then all of a sudden they were half way down the straight
Was it just me?? Or were others of the same opinion - Now I only really want others to agree with me, because I don't take criticism well, and I don't like being told how to suck eggs. If you take an opposing view, I am likely to fire up, disrespect your argument and get a job offer from the Sunday Times.

BC4E, I commented on the terrible camera angles in another thread about the "new" Sky racing channel 521.

I didn't watch the 7 coverage, but it appears from what you have said that Sky used the same vision, or that the vision provided by Sky was influenced by the channel 7 people in order to suit what they thought would make a wonderful telecast.

In fact it turned into a complete stuff up for the reasons you stated above.

I can't agree. I was at Rosehill on Saturday and the angle I was watching from was fine.

Did you try turning the TV around a little or moving chairs?

The biggest problem was that I backed Kermadec, and my TV is a 55 Inch and as such the horse got a long way back. If i had been watching the race on my Ipad it wouldn't have been so far off the leaders and might have won instead of running third.

Did not see any coverage on saturday but guessing Flindell was the caller he got a bit of flack on twitter throughout the afternoon but was set a hard task to come in on such a feature day for his first time at a new track In saying that though i don't rate him as a class caller, just a good honest one

    That's an excellent point.  :(|)

I was on him the start before, nearly put my foot through the TV. But I didn't want to hurt the horses.

Totally agree with you on the very obscure camera angles, trying to be a bit clever with post modernist ultra trendy vision when all we wanted to do was see where our horse was and where the field was. I believe Darren Flindell will be okay but in an interview shown on channel 7, he was clearly nervous about lack of local knowledge and colours etc and he was thrown in at the deep end minus any floaties ...he was excellent in Hong Kong.
Agree entirely about Simon "every horse in the race has a good chance" Marshall, Simon O'Donnell is very pedestrian...ummm..well, actually dead boring and Francesca I find pleasant to the eye and ear and her insights on overseas horses is good. Bruce is Bruce....he drives me crackers on the footy calls with his avalanche of pointless stats and over the top effusiveness and its the same at the races but I suppose someone has to anchor it and it could be worse. The interview with Gai I found interesting and the vision of the memorabilia from the TJ Tribute room was a good insight.

Really can't stand any of the hosts on the channel 7 coverage. S Marshall the worst of them all.
