Think they've taken some of the good from TVN and mixed it with the Sky World - at the moment, all looks good

Not a fan of Caroline Searcy, but she did tip the first winner at Rosehill from the yard.

The small results are good, but can be hard to read from a distance (and I've got pretty good eyesight, feel for those with poorer eyesight)

Darren Flindell is very good caller, but Mark Shean is better and I for one will miss his calling.

Both are very good...when I first heard Mark Shean years ago, I thought no, but was wrong - he really did a good job and will be missed but I think Flindell will settle in and do the business. Nice flowing style, just needs time to adapt.

You can forget about them giving on course bookie odds. They have got Glen Munsie  hammering the TAB fixed odds which are invariably under that which the on track bookies are betting.

I've taken the $1.50 from Ladbrokes that Caroline Searcy will not be able to mention a horses name without referring to its breeding.

It turns out that I've got top fluc, it's into $1.20

The coverage on 521 is ordinary to say the least. Look, they are trying hard, but the coverage of probably Sydneys biggest race day is totally lacking atmosphere.

Darren Flindell is calling well. he gets the colours right and may eventually reach the level of excitement that some of his Hong Kong calls reach. But at the moment, he just lacks the excitement that Mark had.

That Slipper call could have been a maiden at Managatang, if you didn't know better. We had a real stirring finish when English and Vancouver came away, but Flindell's excitement ratio was negligible.

The rest of the commentary team on the ground are ordinary at least.

And who is the genius that decided that the first 600 of the race should be shown from the inside of the track? They just can't leave things alone.

I don't know about you, but for me, it was impossible to work out how horses were positioned.

    Bloody hell, I miss TVN

Punter P, he's been a very good caller in Hong Kong.

He was thrown in the deep end today, at arguably Sydneys biggest meeting.

I'm prepared to give him a month to see if he improves to the very high standard set by Shean.

I just done enjoy his tone, he needs to get a bit throatier or deeper for me. Maybe spend the first hour of the day screaming his lungs out to get the sound i'm after.

I really enjoyed shean, was a punter and called as punters like to hear it

Maybe I don't watch Homg king so don't really know his style he just has no enthusiasm like sheen did

All I know his calls on the big card races on Saturday were as exciting as listening to a picnic maiden

In one race he called the leader then said the same horse was last repeated it twice maybe it was colours getting confused ?

The kermadec one was a howler D Mac would be proud of listening on radio I thought wow bad ron kermadec which I backed then hello it's run a blinder for third how the hell can you stuff that up ?

In another race he got all toungue tied I think nerves new job big Occassion but he really should have warmed up in a mid week

Guess just like great singers etc he had a off day

Yep let's give the bloke a go as I say not familiar with his pedestrian style of calling guess we wil get used to it

Bring back Syd Tonks !!! Best caller ever
  • bookieloverbookielover    2,709 posts
    Nah, PP.

    Bring back Jack Styring
    :D

It's hanging like granny's tooth, he's going faster than last weeks pay, you couldn't hit the rest with a 202, all great stuff.

Trouble was, you had no fkn idea where your horse was in the run, or how it was going, and you would think your horse had a race won, when 2 metres from the line, Jack would produce a horse from nowhere that would blouse yours.

maybe that's why they kept him just to call 50 odd, very odd, Gunbower cups

Would have been better advised to get Shean to call the Autumn Carnival and then have Flindell move into the seat during a period where the eyes weren't so fixed. Perhaps that wasn't possible. I'm not privy to the inner workings of the situation but it would have been ideal.

He must have gone to the D Mac school of not caring who runs 3rd through to 5th

I really really did not like that crap music that they played after every race, I know they were trying to build it up and make it all regal and the like but it just took away from it.

The final financial report from TVN has just been released, having been lodged with Australian securities and Investments Commission.

In 2014, TVN made a profit of $2,900,000 on revenue of $52 million. TVN's liabilities totaled $13.1 million, not the $50 million that was being bandied around.

This puts a lie to the cr@p that was going around that TVN wasn't paying its way. The $13 million was part of the massive set up costs incurred at TVN's inception, and would have eventually been paid off.

I am missing TVN more and more every day.

There is no doubt in my mind, that SKY and its owner the TAB are playing a stupid game of revenge against Vicrtorian racing.

The coverage is absolutely abysmal, while cr@ppy meetings from NSW and Queensland, who were always signed up with SKY, get wall to wall coverage from the mounting yard, to before and after race interviews.

We had a big meeting here at Caulfield a couple of weeks ago. 10 races, huge prize money, and it was treated worse than a mid-weeker at Moree or Kilcoy.

Both Sky channels, 519 and 521, are no more than what we used to call, touts or urgers.

Both Munsie and Dave Stanley should drop the pretense and start sounding like the touts that they are.

Munsie and Stanley, could both start talking out of the side of their mouth's and say, "Hey come closer to the screen mate. Someone, can't say who it was, just had $2 million on knackers at this maiden at Beaudesert."

"Oh, and punters, ignore the drift on track for Scrotum. Yes, we know it's been $4.00 out to $9.00 unlayable with the bookies on track, but with us, it's been $3.50 out to $5.00 and then we have laid a huge bet, of $5 million on it at the $5.00. Now it's in to $2.60".

They are an absolute disgrace and an insult to the public who watch them and their misleading and deceptive conduct.

I just got a news release. from SKY. It says as follows.

" Dear punters We at Sky are pleased to announce that if you stick with us long enough, Tony Brassel  has guaranteed that he will eventually tip you a winner at odds greater than $1.60, but not exceeding $2.50."

    I can't wait for that.

    I-) I-)

The boys were at it again on Sky racing Channel 519.

The first race at the Meadows.

Dave Stanley "this dod number 4 the blue, Crackerjack Bob, been VERY HEAVILY BACKED each way".

    Crackerjack Bob runs third.

    Yay say the Supertab punters.

Then they look at the divis.

$2.50 a place in NSW, $2.70 a place on Unibet, and here in Victoria where the most interest on the Meadows would be, $1.20.

Living proof of the influence that urger employed by Tabcorp has on the poor mugs in the TAB'S
