many, many, many similar stories punter23.....haven't had a winner for a while but cant believe the service could ever be worse than I've experienced and heard about in the past...oh and don't get me wrong, he has occasionally got it right, but far too many times he's got it wrong too.

Heard of people not satisfied, but with them being such a household name for so long, never thought it would come to this. When does this come into effect?and do they have a replacement in line.?

Dont win races often but when do look forward to the winning photo!
Paid and told to pick up in 2 weeks - go pick up - not ready! Told another week! Go back a week later - still not ready with a response of 'if you were desperate you should have told me!!!
Glad to see some fresh air there now!

I always found him to be extremely friendly. Sad to hear that he has moved on, hope he has something to go on with.
Obviously there are some people who will stick the boots in on this forum but don't forget he is just a normal bloke doing his thing and he may not have much to go to after having done that role for an eternity.

If you have watched him in action he is very rude and aggressive, I am surprised he has lasted this long. I have been there when he is taking photo's for a win and he is yelling at people to move and that you are not wanted in the photo. I hope the new photographer is more customer friendly.

Suppose they would be of know use to them I will try contact them.

By the way always found them a pleasure to deal with when ordering prints and all the ones I have so far I would never complain.

My photography has been in the past, more of a concentration of promoting my bloodstock business and developing a fan base of Facebook followers.

When I was retained by the Jockeys Asoc that changed slightly and I started doing more video work, which is my preference. But since I parted from them I have cut back and now only go if there is something of interest to me.

I didn't tender for this opportunity as I don't want that job description, I simply won't from a creative standpoint, simply stand on a finish line and produce mundane images.

I have offered any assistance Simon needs, particularly on the bigger days, as a second camera. But he should find his feet first in his new position before thinking along those lines.

I'm more than happy to help him reach a larger database until he establishes his business through links etc on my pages to his work.

In respect to the title of this thread, Hollands wasn't sacked or wrongfully dismissed. His contract came to an end and Perth Racing sought an alternative for reasons their CEO would be better elaborating on.

I have known of this for several months, but I never considered it something that I would want to do for a number of reasons that are personal.

I wish Simon well in this venture. The Industry deserves a higher standard and I hope he can deliver.

Why can't they simply have an automated camera set up to capture the finish line image like they do on certain roller coasters at theme parks?

based on how good PR's photography equipment is for 600m and finish line stuff, they'd probably get the timing wrong and be taking photos of an empty straight or the beast beaten by 10 lengths!!!
    :))

So hollands will still own the rights to the photos taken by them in the past? If I don't have to pay a massive tax bill this year I was planning on getting a 6 wins print done.

feel bad for Hollands, been there for donkeys years and now thrown on the scrap heap.

I can only imagine how he will go at taking wedding photos with a picky bride............ Lets be honest, this is pretty much one of his only options now unless this deal is just for PR?? What about the other tracks?

I hear you Para. And I also sympathise with anyone who has lost their income stream. But there had been a call by many people - no not just on here - for a long period of time that that these sort of privileged services and protected markets actually have value and need to be put to open tender.

Whether it is Holland Photography or Nick's Seafood, any service that is on a race track has a captive audience. Irrespective if the audience is a handful or a stadium full, so that places a value on that captive audience.

Hollands Photography has had years to make their service that good that no-one would complain or begrudge them having it...but they haven't and therefore an opportunity has been given to another person.. A mirror situation of this is Gannon's. Great service, always willing to help and an asset to have on the track. And no-one is calling for their service to be put out to tender...

Now lets hope they do the same with a seafood outlet catering contract!!

Yeah but then I could tell me people my Horse won a race  :P

From reading above, has this been put out for Tender before ?? , because usually if out of the blue a position is up for Tender, it's usually the gutless way of giving someone there marching orders

Another good comment Loose goose.. Not to my knowledge has it been put out before..Not to say it hasn't, but after hanging around the club for the past decade I've not heard it being done before, so i'd suggest your right about the marching orders.

The new track photographer should have a sample(s) of what he is going to offer and how much he is going to charge for his various products $-) this Saturday I would think.
If anybody thinks of it - have a squizz and let us know :)

    Did anyone see the Tender?

Does it include Northam, Pinjarra, Bunbury as well as Ascot & Belmont?

Was a dollar offer required or was the take a % of gross offer?

    Were minimum requirements set?

I agree Scotty could b a bit difficult to deal with @ times some of the best professionals in field
are well renowned for it one thing for sure he is good @ his job . this reminds me of when Rick Ridley
was forman for F Maynard taught him everything then pinched all his owners !!!!see where he ended up!!

will admit i spent a fair bit of time with scott today at pinny, and let me correct my earlier thought. It seems that this is more political than professional. poor bloke seems to have been shafted. all comes back to the powers that be rather than professional service. pictures aside the guy has a massive understanding of the industry.

Almost on the same topic, just out of interest what is a winning photo worth in town? I suppose it depends on size and framing etc. I was lucky enough to have my first winner as an owner last weekend (in Broome) and I'm just comparing prices..... not that it will change the final outcome, just to get a comparison.
I was quoted $120 for an A3 print, which includes finish line, return to scale and maybe a on straightening photo if they have one. Was an extra $20 for a simple frame, but I think I will investigate getting it block mounted.
