    Rio,

For someone who doesn't have a lot of time for Perth Racing or their Committee, I do remember seeing you in the committee room as a guest one day?????

I like the idea of the Asian market and it would be cheaper to get them than ES horses to our track.

Damien you r beginning to sound like a broken record and a little amateurish. I'm beginning to understand why PR went with the asian mob, to get onto the shirt tails of the asian racing product. Dont the plans for belmont look something like Hong Kong? Apartments situated around the racetrack? The WA govt has a whole community to worry about and finance. Can you imagine the uproar if they said they were going to finance a racetrack?!

Nah Damien your just lousy because your not in on the action. As a bloodstock agent you should be positioning yourself to take advantage of selling horses to the asians to race at the new belmont!

    Give me a spell.

You think that anyone buying real estate in this new precinct will be enticed to buy thoroughbreds ? You must be off your medication.

just north of peppi beach ,
forrest beach is about 15-20km south and unlike most title's to high water mark it's an old queens title that at points includes part of the ocean

I have been in there occasionally and will continue to go when invited. To have any real impact on change i feel it is very important to get as good an idea as possible on what you have and how you have got to have what you have. I find it very hard to ask for change if you don't really understand what we have. My understanding of what we have, started properly about 5 years ago...and continues.

The Asian option is the best option for WA racing by a mile and people have been working away at it for years..with limited success..it was good to see some more buyers of horses for those regions here for our yearling auction.

I'm not a grandstander. If you see me standing around surrounded by the legions of friends i have at the club (ie, standing in the corner talking to myself or Mrs RIO) come over and make yourself known to me. The more i talk to from within the club the more rounded opinion i have. Last time there i sat next to 2 very well known former committee members and once again gained more understanding on how we got to where we are. God willing i will be in this industry for many years to come..And barring a tube of superglue and a Ball Gag i'd expect i'll be commenting all that time..
    ;)

PS.. if you can wangle another free dinner for me i will tolerate just about any of their company
    :-$

Yeah at Stratham just north of capel cut. Camp on the beach there and feed the fish as often as I can.

IMO night racing is the way forward for WA racing. We have some of the biggest betting nations on earth on our doorstep, in the same time zone. There's no reason we shouldn't be racing in conjunction with honkers or Singapore. I believe an all weather surface such as ProRide would be ideal, and would be best situated in Bunbury. It is the second biggest training center after Ascot, and through the winter after Pinjarra shuts up shop, if you don't have a city class horse, you have to trek all the way to Northam, which is a goat track anyway. Nothing more than a pipe dream though, racing in WA is in the doldrums and needs a real overhaul, but the blokes in charge at present will continue to sit on their hands, WA will continue to be the dumping ground for second rate stallions, and nothing will go forward for a long time yet.

Night racing would be great and possibly attract a whole new crowd to the track. Although the crowds have tapered off at the Valley here in Melbourne, they still get 30 bookies prepared to work at those meetings and the big meetings, William Reid etc. attract a decent crowd.

Is there any reason why they couldn't install lights and have night racing at Belmont when they do the new development?

More than likely mate, I mainly drink at the prince in bunbury these days, following a disagreement at Saturday night karaoke at the eaton tav. Gotta pull my finger out and become a member at the bowls club.

Ok I asked Asians why they don't go to the races here ones I know thru work who are mad punters

Answer Feng Shui is all wrong for Asian punters an there are no Asian found options at the track an the culture is ignored no Chinese day is there try we have a massive Chinese population

Think we had dragon dancing once lol

Amazing to hear an Asian say that about Ascot inwad wondering why they don't go an there are very few Asian members

There is no reason why they can't find 2.5 mill for lights at Belmont for the new development govt wastes that repairing public housing every sux months it's chicken feed

Nite racing on Asian time zones is the way forward only the narrow minded would disagree the train stops there what better way after work to go out to dinner at nite racing throw in a band it would go off an the Asians would come have singers an honkers on the big screen get the best chink cook in town wallah

    Punting Tragic,

There was Chinese Day at Ascot and the dancing dragons, as for feng shui and there culture can we really cater for all? How many cultural days does there need to be to make everyone happy as this would be every Saturday for every nationality. I think the racing should be the most important part of the equation.

Ignoring the massive AsianPopulation here who are mad punters by not looking at the Feng shui at our two tracks is dumb buisness an not catering to Chinese an Asian cultures re food is doubly dumb

Massive untapped market long ignored here in Perth an thats why Asians don't go to the races here much at all am that's why there are few Asian members

  • RIORIO    14,902 posts
FFS They don't cater for their current patrons..How about getting that right..it is far cheaper to maintain customers than it is to attract new ones...

How about catering for their current patrons with free wi-fi for all....Punting lounges of 20-30 with i-pads and extra i-pad plugs so punters can sit in comfort and bet the way they do at home..How about having slobs corner in the members where they allow members in to a section of the members area in smart casual attire... or even slobs weekends on non Listed/Group race weekends where smart casual is accepted throughout the whole members area..

There are many things they can do to properly engage with their current patrons and supporters before they go out and try to establish new clientele...

Oh and things like the owners bar - are a fantastic start....A great joint venture between PR and WAROA.. I'd rather see that sort of initiative that is there for everyone, irrespective of race or religion a long time before we start pandering to any other minority group.

Seriously where does this **** come from???

Just saying why is it we have this massive Asian population who adore gambling yet stay away from the track do what I did an ask Asians why so

It's interesting the answers you get Feng shui dies not have to interfere with regular punters nor does Asian food options I for one would love that

No slobs corner in the members just don't let the slobs in full stop

Your right they don't cater to regulars now an are losing them weekly

We need a whole new thread petition to PR about improvements il say again. Some things they do great hiring mug lairs like Marty is just plain stupid
