60+ on a saturday may be good for those with slow horses, but does nothing to promote perth as a racing mecca!!!
they don't have prime meeting these days, they just have more of the same nothingness on saturday's as they do on wednesday's

I can kind of agree with the vibe of what you're saying and I feel it's to do with people actually trying to make things better but inadvertently making things worse. For the last few years there has been a push to spread the prize money more and more around the provincials. That's all well and good as it spreads the money around but at what cost? What is it taking away from the big day, Saturday? What is it costing in lost turnover which in turn is money back to spread around the industry? Don't we want trainers, owners and jocks to be aspiring to be successful in town? The best racing needs to be on the best day, you need to give everyone a reason to be coming to town.
I'm not all over the figures by any means but I just had a very quick look. 3 races midweek in town today at random, $20000 $15000 and $15000. 3 Races midweek in town around this time 2006 at random all worth$17000 so in effect no rise at all.
3 races on a sat current time $40000 $47500 and $47500. 3 sat races in 2006 all $40000 so one race with no price rise and two up around 19%.
3 races at Pinj current time $17500 $15000 and $17500. 3 Pinj races back in 2006 $9500 $9000 $9500 so a price rise of around 85%.
So in essence country racing prize money has gone up at around 4 times that of city racing. Or looking at it another way in 2006 on a sat in town you were running around for approx. 4.2 times the money available at Pinj. At the current time you will be racing for about 2.7 times the money. So were is the incentive to set your horses and bring them to town? I remember a time not that long ago you'd see the good horses with good form from far and wide come in and try to pull off a big win in town, now I can see it would be harder to get enthusiastic about. Just keep yourself out of town and down in the ratings.
Obviously it's a very small figure base but you can get my point from it.

Well his runs have been spaced so that he only runs every fortnight and so far he has been rolled as a short priced favourite TWICE. The bookies will be building a statue of him soon.

rarely go..its boring as $hit these days. honest, only go for an hour or so, no atmosphere, just to let folks i am alive and kicking.
eg smokers...here they chase you with a water pistol...caulfield and flemington last month..open slather outdoors. not that i condone smoking...its just a matter of choice, not gestapo like tactics here
grog cheaper, food 100% superior...why go to perth tracks?
I enjoyed the day on Saturday then Again I'm not a whining git like must here
