I'm not planning on spending at lot of money at this sale. I have two clients at this point for about 4 to 5 horses in total. I'm really trying to find at a price point of $50,000 for one client who only wants the stock of a particular Stallion (not Encosta De Lago), and the other client under $100,000 if possible.

Lot 40 would definitely fall into the second category. The mare is too old for one of my clients and he wouldn't buy the yearling, and he is not alone in this thinking. I would have maybe tried to convince him had this yearling been a filly with some future residual, but a colt, soon to be gelding and as it is definately not a Stallion's page, I just don't see my clients being interested.

Now that is not the case for other people, but it is the case for the ones I represent.

In terms of breeding, the two halves by Rock of Gibraltar, are incredibly better in scoring terms by comparison. I would regard them as A+ in rating, their scores are so high. But when matched to Encosta De Lago, the score over the damline is only so so. There is nothing particularly wrong with it, but only on two of sixteen occasions does this mating give a score. Whereas the previous matings to Rock of Gibraltar score on all 16 occasions, with nine of those scores off the Richter Scale.

I hope that explains my thoughts.

Changing the topic, last year there was a Discorsi, half to Baleen in Me sold at MM. Can anyone tell me if it's been named as yet, if so what it is? (I don't have a current Aus stud book membership to look it up)

had quite a lot of success this year. Fanicio is one of theirs, but a lot of the stable trained by Simon Foster.

type is everything. trainers will pay 100k for yearlings by nobodys if it is a ripper. horses are judged on type.

Lot 40 was a big Colt, selling in excess of $100,000 wasn't a surprise when the horse was viewed.

Richard Bayliss is someone I have known for several years. He and his wife Maree are always a load of laughs when we catch up, and I sincerely hope they and their son Mark, have great times with this Colt.

if anyone wants to see an absolute cracking yearling... check out Mabel Grace's full brother at the sales. I was out at Rivercrest Stud a few weeks ago and it is an amazing looking animal with a superb temprement. Wish I had the $$$ to buy it!

I'm glad Steve Hoare did well with his Colt, and I hope Justin Warwick can get him up and running around three years of age.

I am not a FP fan but lot 74 looks a likely type but over all good to see Gervase Park seems to have good looking draft.

He was a cracking specimen. I had a client who expressed an interest in him off the short list I sent him, but I thought $50,000 might see him out. Trevor Andrews fell in love with him and had to go to $100,000. I passed on the client to Trevor and hopefully he can remain with a percentage in this horse.

I purchased well within my budget this year, as I had hoped. My first purchase went for $70,000 from day one, for a Snitzel filly, and $10,000 for a Flying Pegasus filly selected purely on type from day two stock.

The Snitzel filly has been decided to give her about four months to mature a bit more before going to a breaker. A Trainer hasn't been selected for her at this point. The Flying Pegasus was selected for Eric Wake, with Eric's input in the process. She had the cleanest x-ray's of all the stock I requested viewed over the two days and as a type we both were very happy with her size, conformation and attitude.

I also tried late into the evening to secure two passed in lots for a another Trainer, but alas at this point we are a few points apart on a deal.

Sort them in order for us, and with say a 2 / 3 lot sold min ?

In the interim - without scanning the list - how far ahead is WC ???

So what is the best value..maths is my thing but unless you have the price for the serve on the top of your head it is hard to judge

Vital Equine and Planet 5 look good return value, but I am sure there are others that jump off the page?

based on who bought the expensive WC wouldn't you not exclude that from the figures????

Do you know how long that list took to compile ? Get a piece of paper and sort it out yourself, otherwise I can't do it until late tonight as I have a Tennis evening with my son at Midland, and after the week or so I have had, that is far more appealing. I say this in the kindest way of course.
