Watching his ride yesterday on the horse... can anyone tell me why he sat so quiet until the 300m and went for gaps rather than coming to the outside?
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,485 posts

bit harsh and a quick decision, probably made on the spur of the moment.

hell, nash gave up rides in sydney to stay loyal to the horse and connections for 2 rides in melbourne.

    no loyalty in racing, eh?

Not the first time Nash has been burnt so close to the big races. No loyalty whatsoever

how do we know he didnt follow instructions, gotta be more to it than we've been fed

is a big plus for connections anyway, especially if the horse does make it to cup day.. Oilver has been there and done that, couldnt have wanted a better replacement on the big day imo

Think its the one to beat in the Cup couldnt have PDL on yesterdays run not unless the heavens open up on race day  this horse still hasnt won a GR-1  may have been over hyped as this prep he has run into the real topliners and has found to be wanting if that race yesterday went another 200m PDL runs 6th or 7th saying that he still ran 2nd

Hope the horse draws wide and gets caught out there forever now. Nash is a champ, looking after the horse for the big ones and gets shafted. Hopefully the karma train can roll in and he can pick up a live chance.

I wonder if Nash never has the ride on Peron again either? 3 wide and only just gets beaten. Saying that Craig Williams did a similar thing on politness.

Nash is a quality rider on his day, but Saturday just wasnt one of those days. Its as if he can take his form with him to Melb, as he will head back to Sydney next weekend and probably bag a treble.

If he didnt follow instructions, it's fair enough.  I wish more trainers/owners had the balls to stand up to them.

Having said that, if it was 'just' a bad/unlucky ride, then yes, stiff as a board for Nash...

I agree with you Carlosa...Especially in Perth we have that many Jocks to choose from, that if they dont follow instructions or have a  bad day, then change them. They are fully entitield to jump off our duds for a chance to win(as they should) so when it works the other way then it should be done as quickly as this one is. The dyays of the Prima Donna are well and truly over..especially in Melbourne at the moment. I reckon they have a really good spread of senior riders ATM

He wont have a problem picking up another ride and the owners and trainer probably wont have a problem going back to him with other horses if he is the best that is available..

here's a review from one of the best in the business, on the race and more specifically Fiorente's run - "Fiorente was a bit lazy at the start and settled at the back with Hawkspur who crossed behind them from the outside. A bit of tightening at the first turn saw Puissance de Lune and Royal Descent lose a length or so. Glencadam Gold had them running before the turn and broke the field up momentarily but he was quickly reeled in by the 400m where Puissance de Lune burst up along the fence to grab the lead a fair way out with Dear Demi trying to follow him.  Fawkner made a dash about the same time to challenge and Jet Away went with him while Quintessential and Mr O'Ceirin were boxing on. Plenty of interference around that point with Hawkspur running into dead ends along the fence, Royal Descent flattened and Fiorente was badly held up inside struggling horses near the tail. Happy Trails gained some dream runs through the field while others were having hard luck stories and set out after Puissance de Lune and Fawkner, who was peaking on his run. Fiorente sprouted wings out wide missing a place narrowly, Jet Away was tightened near the line and Silent Achiever worked home well though couldn't match Fiorente's sprint....

The only one to follow from the race and blackbook comment was... you guessed it! Fiorente, should have won, he's a star. Hawkspur was excellent as was Jet Away. No knock on Puissance de Lune who was a sitting shot

Im already sick to death of fiorente, imo wont do anything in the cup.

You have got fawkner running third and happy trails winning, and everything running on well at the end, looks like another crap race. If any half decent internationals come over..,

That said, fiorente did look brilliant running home

I still like masked marvel as a horse

Not surprised Nash got the flick. Lots of conspiracy theories.
Gay's hubby and son keep the punters money in their bags.
No weight penalties for the big one.
Nash has priors. Refer attached link on Perth connected heavily backed horse. Think Robbie would have slept well that night. Singo in recent times makes a a good point.

the horse (fiorente) actually had a pretty good run compared to horses like hawkspur and super cool (who were unlucky)
it was the eyecatcher tho and will start under the odds compared to the other two next time out.

with you on masked marvel. is the pick of the bunch for mine, havent seen the replay but it was still last at the 300 in a race they walked in, was a solid effort to finish 2nd to Honorious (who had the gun run all race behind the leader) switch positions of these 2 and masked marvel bolts in.. still $27 for the melb cup,
  • Rogue_GreenRogue_Green    294 posts
Verema for the Melb Cup i think. Consistent mare who has been allocated 53.0kg. With her recent win in the Prix de Kergolay over 3000m in France. I will be sticking with her over $25 at the moment.

If anyone has time just look over the replay on youtube of the Prix de Kergolay.

latest news here re. the Nash/Gai saga and for just once I might actually believe what Gai is saying and possibly be on her side (thats of course if these quotes are true....) but I find it hard to believe that it was a 'race to race' decison but she does make great valid points re Oliver, but who knows with Gai or the Waterhouse family in general

Hall of Fame trainer Gai Waterhouse described it as "owners’
prerogative” to sack former stable rider Nash Rawiller aboard her star import
Fiorente for the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup.

Rawiller was replaced by local rider Damien Oliver for the horse’s two main
spring targets and Waterhouse defended the decision at the launch of her new
racing club – Gai, Living the Dream – on Monday.

"Nash was never booked for the whole program, he was only booked
race-to-race and an executive decision was formulated over a period of time,”
    Waterhouse said.

"It wasn’t just over a race, it was taken over a period of time and it
came down to are wegoing to stay with this jockey or are we going to change
course so we decided to change to Oliver.

"Damien is very hungry at the moment, he’s been out for a while, he’s
riding very well, he’s riding my horses very well – I can’t complain.

"He lives down here 24/7 and he knows Flemingtonlike
the back of his hand. I think it’s a good choice.”

Despite Waterhouse stating the decision to dump Rawiller "wasn’t just
over a race” she made it clear she wasn’t satisfied with his handling of
Fiorentein the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on
    Saturday.

"He settled back too far and that is one of the reasons we’ve had a
    change in direction,” she said.

"We don’t need him settling that far back. You need everything to go
your way. In a staying rac,e things can change in a race and you don’t want to
    be too far off them.

"Also it’s not as if he’s got 52.5kgs in the Melbourne Cup he’s got 55kgs and you
need everything to go your way.”

Rawiller was philosophical about losing the mount on Monday at Randwick.

"What can you do?” he said. "I’ve been taken off horses before and
I’m sure it will happen again.

"I’m not going to let it get me down. I’m now looking to find one to
    replace
     Fiorente and
    hopefully I can find a horse to win both races.”<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

with Oilver getting suspended does this mean he'll miss cox plate and melb cup day?

if so I wonder if Nash will be back onboard Fiorente..

think it may be a weight issue with dc, dungy.

Why didn't the suspension take place immediately? he should not be riding in the CC.

    According to racenet

Oliver is definitely riding Fiorente in the cup. Gai has still made no decision on the Cox Plate.
