R1. Facebook.com/perthracing Handicap - So You Think Tipster #1 - Tim P

Gaps in me Knees has had two starts for trainer Chris Willis and they have both been very promising. From a good barrier she does look hard to beat providing she handles racing 3 times within a fortnight.

Redwood Rose does look another promising stayer in the making for Adam Durrant. Racing first up over the mile doesn't concern me as she did run 3rd in her first start in a Maiden over the 1510m late last year in Albany.

Flirt with Time got within a short head of Leggy Blonde in her first start this campaign. She is a perenial place getter this horse so it wouldn't suprise me to see her fighting out the finish.

5. GAPS IN ME KNEES - 4. REDWOOD ROSE - 2. FLIRT WITH TIME

Just Envy Her was a very promising last start maiden winner for trainer David Harrison. I dont think the drop back to 1000m will be a concern so I will put her at the top of the class for this race.

Mountain Haze was flashing home last start and this Bianconi gelding does look to have a bright future. Providing he handles the 58.5 he should be given every chance with Peter Knuckey on board.

Lil Kim was a good last start maiden winner prior to a small let up for trainer Paige Kenney and this Heritage filly does look to have her fair share of ability.

Another horse to keep an eye on is Island Pago. This beatifully bred filly is a half sister to former mid week winner Pago Rock and Saturday winner Rock my Pago. What she lacks in experience she certainly makes up for with potential.

    7. JEST ENVY HER - 1. MOUNTAIN HAZE - 8. LIL KIM

SUGGESTED BET - 7. JEST ENVY HER $10

Quokka has won her two trials in very impressive fashion and looks set to run a bold race first up. She gets in with 51.5 after the claim for Chanelle O'Grady and has drawn perfectly in barrier 3.

True Storm is yet to miss a place from two starts and looks to be another horse with claims. Jason Brown maintains the ride and the Hurricane Sky filly has also drawn ideally.

That old Chestnut also looks to have place claims after an excellent trial for Joseph Azzopardi. Although this filly was a distant last at her only race start to date there were certainly excuses in the Stewards Report in that she pulled up lame in the near fore.

    11. QUOKKA - 8. TRUE STORM - 13. THAT OLD CHESTNUT

Princess Caraboo will be racing off a seven day break but I don't see this as any cause for concern. She was very impressive last Wednesday and Jerry Noske is riding in good form.

Silver Speck is stepping up to the 1400m and although he raced more than a little bit greenly he was still too good for his rivals over a sprinting journey two weeks ago. He does have a 59.5 impost here but his potential alone may be enough to overcome that hurdle.

Shawshank is another last start victor and the distance should suit him. He will more than likely bowl along in front but with an ackward barrier to overcome he might be found wanting over the final 100m.

    6. PRINCESS CARABOO - 1. SILVER SPECK - 3. SHAWSHANK

Trade Down can go one better than his past two starts for George Daley and Chris Parnham. Stepping up 500m within a week is a query but he has had enough starts this preparation to suggest that fitness won't be an issue.

Namisuki is a gentle giant and has been finishing his races full of running as of late. He gets in well at the weights with Mitchell Pateman's claim and if the speed out in front is genuine look for him to be charging home late.

Confianza is the in-form horse for this race and he too gets in well at the weights with the claim for Aaron Mitchell. The horse's only two wins have been with Daniel Staek in the saddle but winning form is good form so it's hard to see him not running in the first three.

    5. TRADE DOWN - 4. NAMISUKI - 1. CONFIANZA

Gingerman ran a bold race first up when running 4th to the promising Terkel back on May 15. From an ideal barrier and 'The Fish' staying on board, Jason may well be smiling when he returns to the Scales (Pun intended).

Sealynx looks ready to win again for Stan Bates and Peter Knuckey. This horse is as honest as the day is long but he is yet to win over 1000m which is a query.

Bizet certainly doesn't win out of turn but he does get in extremelly well at the weights today . He has drawn a lot better than his last start so he shouldn't have to use up too much petrol to find himself in a forward position.

And my biggest horse to keep a watch on today is Dark Delight. Grant Williams obviously thinks she is up to this class of field at her first ever race start and her trial form does suggest that may well be the case too.

    5. GINGERMAN - 8. SEALYNX - 4. BIZET

    SUGGESTED BET - 5. GINGERMAN $10

It may pay to forget the last start effort of Magnifisio as she has since trialled well and gets in well at the weights. She may just need the run first up today but I think her class will see her through.

Seattle Beau also looks extremelly hard to beat. The weight won't bother him, but what may bother him however is the wide barrier draw and the distance of todays race.

Fighters Second has the potential to put pay to this field as he returns to racing from a freshen up. He actually ran within a length of Mia China Doll at his last start which is a terrific form guide.

    5. MAGNIFISIO - 3. SEATTLE BEAU - 4. FIGHTERS SECOND

    SUGGESTED BET - 5. MAGNIFISIO $10 x $10

We have seen it time and time again with Shaun O'Donnell in that he is able to win when jumping aboard an out of form horse for the first time. A good example of this is the Dean White trained Black at Heart. This horse came from 11th on the turn at Northam and his final 600m sectional speaks for itself.

Jumbo was making up very good ground late when running 6th to Fabulistic first up for Lou and Dion Luciani. The addition of blinkers is a very positive gear change too.

Really Sleek ran a very honest race when finishing 3rd to World Domination at Belmont last Wednesday. He's only won the one race from 15 starts to date but he has placed in 8 of the other 14.

    3. BLACK AT HEART - 4. JUMBO - 6. REALLY SLEEK

Quickwitted Charlie wins for Alan and Birgitt Macalister, purchased as a foal at foot by myself on their behalf. Two live chances in race 7 to come.

smoko is MUCH better than those two, if he can keep the standard he ran today.

    he is THAT good.

Smoko won like an impressive horse.

May well prove to be a better horse than HBC or SK.

When comparing to SK or HBC 'if' is the operative word when considering whether Smoko is 'much better' than the aforementioned horses.

After all they are not machines and ability alone will only get you so far. Here's hoping for  the Fiore's and the Prices that this horse reaches its potential.

yes, but how de we know until we have seen?
and don't forget it was a lowly 3yo restricted race, so it's a big call from me, but i am confident it's a very very good horse, if its sound.
you don't do that time that easily at first ever run, unless you are special.

I remember you were a big fan of their other potential group 1 horse too, Colour Correct.

no i wasn't, i was critical of the way it(cc) was constantly given free runs by the handicapper, it was forever getting favours.
it was just a good horse.

  • careycarey    6,424 posts
the last horse i felt so keenly about was one that won a 2yo mdn at newcastle by about 10 lengths on a bog track at its first run.
i called it a future g1 winner after that run.
it was called spark of life, and if its feet were not so bad it would have done much more than it actually did.

Left Sarabi out by mistake in the second leg. May pay the price for that. Just the 11.9% today
