allowed his mount to stride forward to race on equal terms with the leader which had already
established a considerable margin on the field through the middle stages, rider advised that he was
instructed to improve into the race from the 800m and that the gelding is best suited when allowed to
stride freely. He further advised that he had been able to achieve this with little effort as the gelding
was racing strongly at this point of the race. Rider agreed with the Stewards opinion that he had erred
in his tactics given that the leader and his mount had already established a considerable margin on the
remainder of the field it would have been more prudent to delay improving into the race until several
hundred metres later
General: Stewards inquired into the reason for MOONLIGHT BAY (J. Whiting) being restrained near
the 225m. It was established that TALENT SHOW (J. Noske) when taken outwards to improve its
position was insufficiently clear causing this incident. Jockey J. Noske (TALENT SHOW) pleaded
guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) for causing the above incident and was
subsequently suspended from riding in races for a period of 18 days to commence from midnight 6
January 2013 and to expire at midnight 24 January 2013.

IS THAT IT. Is that is all that the Stewards are going to do about that perthetic performance today in our premier race. II can't find the right words.
late scratching of texan was 39c in the $1 from memory
Anyway, maybe I am simply getting sick of some of the crap that is being posted, I've been crook with a prick of a virus since New Years Eve, and the Panadeine Forte may have been wearing off ~X(
Thanks Banjo and BABIECA NOIRE. Saved my butt. Over the odds as was the cup winner.
Another quiet day for Carbery again yesterday i bet he cant wait for his suspension to end as Pike and Harvey are keeping the seat warm well for the stable
as the $2.80 favourite did not take part in the race, obviously, there will be a deduction as the chance of your runner now winning have increased and all those who backed Texan get their stake refunded.
Not sure how many times we had to explain this on course today, but I guess you can expect that from once a year punters.
and no 600m sectionals ! - the potential to set a State record is probably in this race, more so than any other (albeit the style of track preparation nowadays, suggests that 1000m records are a thing of the past.) - I know things go wrong on racedays but surely on a big day that amounts to toilet ques, power outage , tote overload - not a simplistic static beam 480m from the finish.
I was just thinking of Carey's data of sectional times and how this would leave a void esp. at the upper end.
Instead your patrons, most who are intoxicated end up having to cross Garrattt Road and try and flag down a taxi - safety should be paramount, and having a taxi rank at both ends of the track would be pretty smart.
On other matters, anyone think the ride on Cantonese was a little too much? They said before the race he could take a site, yeah. That didnt happen. Surely Cassidy would have known that its pretty rare that a leader wins this race! Only way to win it would have been to slow them right down, then kick off the short straight. Either he was over rated as a horse or our stayers are under rated, im thinking the first.
Long campaign, late travel plans, a number of days of 40 degrees when he arrived wouldnt have helped, then add that ride to the mix. Im sure he and Mr Moet were by far the best stayers in the race.
Serves them right - $35 to get in and getting ripped off bigtime with the crazy prices on food and drink.
I think it's all down hill for them now if they don't wake up and pull their fingers out.
Different world today - trying to attract the wrong people to the track stuffed up NYE at Glou/Park...which use to be very enjoyable to the real racegoer.
I use to go to the track every week, never missed a Perth Cup Carnival no matter where I was living in Australia - but they lost me years ago when they stuffed up what use to be a great Carnival.
Just watched the replay for the first time, Lopov could have won that race, if he hadn't of gone stupid and just sat 2-3L off the tearaway leader.
Think Pop Culture was a superb run, had to bring the field up to the leaders at the 600m and still fought on very well to the finish.

BE SO RYSKI (S. O’Donnell) – Held tight in the early stages. When questioned regarding the unplaced
performance, rider advised that the mare was obliged to race wide through the early and middle stages
and as a result got further back in the field than anticipated to obtain cover. He further advised that
when the pace quickened from the 600m the mare was under pressure however made good ground in
the straight. Due to the disappointing performance, a post race veterinary examination revealed the
mare to be slightly lame in the off fore and would not start in a race for a period of at least one month.
All riders engaged at this meeting underwent breathalyser testing with no anomalies detected.
I heard a comment on Racing Radio this morning from a listener that said.."whilst we have two companies running the one program we will never get it right"...and in my opinion that statement is very true...One is a government body - so waste is accepted across all areas of operation. And the other is a not for profit club - that in the past has scorned and ridiculed anyone that dare try to hold them accountable for their actions...not a good recipe for success..
Crowd was in good spirits, weather was good (made for a nice change)
The taxi thing I bought up earlier is a massive concern though, why push all of the patrons to the Mathieson Road end of the track, when the concert stage is at the Leger Gate end - duh!
:-$
The taxi rank is a no brainer..they block Grandstand road off, so put the rank on the road heading towards Gt Eastern Hway and the flow rate would be so much better on Super Saturday and Cup day..
The crowd were happy on Super Saturday too..am sure it is cos those that have been there all day haven't got frustrated with packed bars..due to the majority of the crowd getting in late...I dont think that would be good for club revenue though??
Glad it all ran smoothly..i think the $35 is a fair price to pay for 5 - 7 hours of entertainment. Cheaper than an AFL game and twice as long..the food and Drink prices need to be trimmed a bit though...And dont start on the quality of food, or Falcon will attack us all!!! haha
