Many doubters before the race about Luckygray. I think its fair to say he won alot of respect yesterday coming second. Lumping 58kg and last before the corner. As i said before the race, he ran the fastest last 600m even with the 58kg.
Lets hope he heads back to Melb next year and proves his worth.

Good ride by Staeck which won on the day, thats what racings about. Looks like Chester Rd for the Perth cup now that the weight will count Mr Moet out.

How is it the exact same result? He won the first on protest, totally different winning one on protest and losing one because of a poorish ride and weight.
So you think Luckygray is still second rate? or built up more than he should be?

If so, what did you take away from the race? Fat Al is over rated, Playing god is consistent but one paced, Rosie showed lots of guts considering, or the winner had a perfect ride and freshness to win....Anything else??

Hey Phil when does your book go to press?

    Noted. It is too long!
My comment wasn't meant to be a negative Phil.. just picking up on the observation.you appear to enjoy writing. You obviously put a fair amount of time and effort into that contribution so cheers for that.

Doncaster for Luckygray I reckon. Would give him enough time in the spelling paddock before the spring, instead of running in Perth in the winter. Randwick suits horses with his racing pattern-can be held up until topping the rise then WHOOOOOSH!!! ^:)^

Yep. Depending on weight I think it's worth a shot.Yesterday's effort puts him in the fiinish of the Emirates imo-if you consider the runs of Fat Al, Yosei& Wall Street.

If Gino & the owners do decide to come to Sydney the path to the Doncaster could look like this:

    23/3 Rosehill Canterbury Stakes(1300m) Group 2 WFA
    6/4 Rosehill Ryder Stakes(1500m) Group 1 WFA
    20/4 Randwick Doncaster Mile(1600m) Group1 Hcp

Or an alternative programme could include:

    13/4 Randwick T.J.Stakes(1200m) Group 1 WFA
    27/4Randwick All Aged Stakes(1400m) Group 1 WFA

does that take into consideration his illegal spurs ! MR MOET certainly raced like a horse that had been sharpened for the job - not like a stayer first up.

i had him an $8 chance from memory.
    my 2nd or 3rd pick.
interested in your 'illegal spurs' comment though.

you can watch races all day in WA, you will see many jocks turn their toes out and kick with their heels, it certainly does not look good, and think it should be outlawed, they certainly are not allowed to punch or use the end of their whip to hit a horse in the neck, same effect with the feet which is allowed,
  • goosegoose    1,638 posts
Carey you must have a freaky ratings system last campaign first up beat Honest Lies and Carlton Street then second up over the mile ran 4th to Come Party,King Point and Star Buck good Albany form. Many miles from winning a Railway did win the Strickland stakes against handy horses before spell but 3rd pick?
Are spurs legal ? and which jockeys are using them over here I know they use them in Sydney this information should be very available to punters.
  • Piston_BrokePiston_Broke    2,047 posts
they are legal everywhere in Aust

have a look at damiens pics, one jock is wearing them.

in WA you have to have a ball on the end, whereas in the E/S they can be pointed

it's actually quite useless at the moment as i don't do any work, but yesterday it was not bad for a change.
had chester whatever it's name is at about 3 or 4 dollars too.
one thing you learn with experience, handicapping horses is not half as important as handicapping trainers and riders is.
horses always have humans pulling the strings..........or loosening them

swooper or rio could vouch for them being pre-race rather than afterwards

Can someone call it the way it is.One of the best training/riding performances in the race in all years.WTF has the Spurs got to do with it.If l/gray or Rosie got the same run they woulda finished 1-2 but they didnt.if my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle.A great performance whichever way it's read. And PB Boss shoulda gone forward to try and get in but he didn't and Donga shoulda waited and come up the middle but he didn't.History coulda been made but it wasn't.Blame this, blame that, it doesn't detract from the fact.

Britbat, I agree the winner deserved to win and was going to win from the 500,it was jog trotting. A great training effort

Well said Britbat. Can't we just acknowledge top performances without launching into conspiracy theories and slamming jockeys??

The Railway Stakes meeting was outstanding. Good racing, good crowd and well behaved. Lots of positive feeling, enjoyed by many. Just needed Bippo to get up and it would have been best ever

The ironic thing is that if they didn't award LG that joke protest then he would have carried at least 2kgs less on Sat which probably would have been enough to win. So either way he would still have 1 win and 1 second...
  • I agree Theo, gee some of these blokes must troll through everything in WA racing looking for negatives.
Great training performance by AD, terrific ride by DS, yet some peanut comes on with the illegal spurs accusation.
    Jealousy springs to mind.
Oh btw the RWWA ads on tv are great hey ?
