cheers
Why should he get it any shorter than Shinn or Robyl got because he is your mate PB ??? what a crock
give him 12 months like the other shonkers
:))
he aint that good
do you think ollie struggled to sleep knowing that he has broken the rules of racing?... just the once....
Won't surprise me if there are more bets uncovered.
From what I hear it is not a one off bet.
From today's headlines Australian racing has got bigger problems than a few jockeys having a bet. Shit they've done it for decades anyway.
i may be wrong, but aren't reinsmen allowed to bet?
there is not one isolated problem.
unfortunately, its not tall poppy syndrome. more specifically, how can this be tall poppy syndrome in PERTH ALONE?!!
are you suggesting this because oliver originates from perth? or because this forum is perth based? im not sure i'm with you?
shergar, can you please tell me what is a bigger problem in racing than a jockey betting on a rival horse AND COLLECTING?
i love this game as much as any reader on this forum. i share the same admiration for the jock in question. but how much do these guys have to earn before they leave it alone!
owners and punters and breeders need some confidence. or as much as they can get...
this is just the tip of the iceberg pal
dont hear much crying from other jocks and industry participants about d nikolic getting bent over the stewards table and copping a free service to not a single doubt?... given the evidence.... :-O
jockeys association up in arms about his treatment? shergar, do you agree with nikolics penalty and is it a case of tall poppy syndrome in his circumstance?
Before you all go off.....like i usually do!!!...i know he has broken the rules and for that he needs to pay a penalty. But compared to how we tolerate repetitive trainers that endanger the horses lives, as well as getting horses that aren't favourites to win..i personally don't see why it would go past a year....
Both scenarios are wrong, but for a first time conviction i feel that a person needs to be given a chance to redeem themselves. Damian Oliver out of racing wont be good for the sport..Damien Oliver with a changed attitude and supporting the sport going forward would be a great asset.
oh and i am aware that a few of you said that if he did it once he has done it heaps of times...well the same applies to all those who break the rulers..no-one seriously is suggesting that Mark Reed has only ever doped 3 horses are they??? we only penalise people for the ones they get caught with. What we need to do is make sure that future penalties - after the first conviction - are incredibly severe, to discourage the activity. Something that i feel this industry in Australia still doesn't do.
If you want to compare penalties from different states the best comparison to Ollie's alleged offence is surely the cases of Robl and Shinn who got 12 to 15 months.
I'm unaware of the details of those two situations(or have forgotten!?!?!), but am all for uniformity around the country. I'd hope that in this situation the stewards seek to match or even be harsher than those suspensions, and then make it very clear that if it is done again there wont be a suspension.

Dungy 8 months is very strong mail
Personally I would give him a slap on the wrist and and ask to be his commission agent in future
After reading up on the two i doubt that Ollie would go for longer...unless more comes out than what we aren't aware of.
