    Arrhhh, the memories, MGF were a fantastic live band! And I believe the lovely lass you're talking about would be KK Juggy - a classy lass :lol:

    Personally I think 'The Potbelleez' this year (for Super Saturday) is the first 'nail on head' music addition they have had since Barnesy - these guys are hugely popular with the young crowds and I'd be surprised if they don't generate a large 'after the last' spending binge!
    I have been to the betting auditorium in the members stand at Randwick(only operates on non-randwick racedays) when they have music festivals there and it always gives me a laugh watching people sneaking around like NavySeals trying to jump the fence and avoid the cover charge. :lol:

    i wonder how long the bars will be open on the 19th?
    on a normal day the officious gnomes pull the shutters down as soon as correct weight is sounded after the last. then parade around saying the car parks will be locked.

    no different to Flemington tho - you would think they could keep certain bars open for 30mins after the last

    not everyone on course is as pissed as a fart and would help make the crowd dispersal a bit easier

    i can remember being up in the members until 9ish...full as a fat lady's sock, having a wow of a time... :lol:
    taxis'd come in and pick up at the bottom of the escalators.
    them were the days... :P

    Well done The Funkster,you've got it right.
    The ONLY future for Perth Racing is to redevelop Belmont,make it a vibrant,brand new racecourse,with NIGHT RACING.
    You can tap into the new stadium and all of a sudden Belmont is the action place to be.
    You make the place attractive and affordable to young people,some funky bars with TAB machines. And make Belmont a 12 month a year racetrack,with predominantly night racing.
    You still have Ascot as your main summer carnival racing venue,but make Belmont your new look,young persons,exciting venue,similar to Hong Kong/Singapore.
    It will cost millions and millions and will never happen if The Government of the day don't commit to it.
    But the alternative is that Perth racing will continue to be a small blimp on the radar.

    I suppose Perth Racing can sell part of Belmont for housing and use that money to build a new look Belmont with lights.
    But I doubt they'd have enough money even then.
    If something positive doesnt happen soon Perth racing will become nothing, as ,unfortunately,racing,no longer draws a crowd.
    We need to tap into young people,not the silver foxes and grey nomads.
    I doubt whether they'll get 20,000 for Super Saturday.Black Caviar not coming has put paid to that

    the east does not care about wa one iota i don't think....it's an irrelevance basically.
    so night meetings would be fine i guess.....could be at same time as those in sg and/or hk

    my local track at cranbourne starts night racing soon i have been told.
    might pop out there myself to check it out, provided old bastards are allowed.

    Stakes & subsidies ($?000) $31,707 $34,827 $36,573 $33,864 $33,006

    The numbers above show the contribution to stakes made by Perth Racing above and beyond that of RWWA distribution. I have copied them directly across from the Perth Racing Annual Report. The final figure in each line is the most recent year. It shows that Perth Racing contributed $782,000 to that given by RWWA, so averaged out across a full year of 726 races, their commitment was $1077.13 per race.

    I thought this a relevant point when talking about light towers etc.

    The possibility of night racing,must not be mentioned in the same breath as prizemoney.
    Prizemoney must at least remain the same or higher regardless of whether Belmont ever gets lights.
    The need for lights at Belmont is only a dream for those of us who know its the right solution.
    The money must come from The State Government,selling of land at Belmont and any other avenue.
    It probably won't ever happen, but what other solutions are there to improve Perth racing ?

    but nestor, i understand they have already sold all of belmont to golden shower..or at least they have got a multi million $ DEPOSIT...which, i believe they have already spent.

    I am 56. Went to the bar at Ascot the other Saturday, asked
    for three beers (had two mates with me). "sorry, can only buy two at a time" says barman. Okay I buy just two (ridiculous prices!!) and then go back
    to order one beer. "sorry Sir you have to wait 5 minutes before I can serve you again!". Are we in Australia?? Who is responsible for this bullshit? Do you want us at the track? Why penalize the paying public? Any wonder punters stay at home? Probably liquor laws - but that doesn't make it right.

    Just further adds to my earlier post - no one can honestly say its a better experience trackside now than it was then. Liquor laws were what shut down NYE at the trots - they were faced with 2 options either alcohol free or comply with laws described above - neither were a practical option for the Club so that was that. Isnt it funny that since all these changes and laws - aside from just liquor - fun police/ security etc.. that the community has become a far safer place to be in - NOT!!!
