That is a mentality that younger and less experienced sides just don't comprehend. Saying that it is a mindset that just doesn't evolve automatically with experience but it is certainly a big factor and no doubt a cornerstone of most premiership sides.
I think the big teams like the Pies, Bombers and Blues have an advantage playing in more blockbuster games on the big stage, which would no doubt fast track development of the kids under pressure situations.
Daisy Thomas - now he's something else
Take a look at all the clubs at the top of the ladder in the last couple of years, every single one of them has raped the PP selections, and these are first round selections not 2nd rounders like ours.
Hawthorn had Ellis and Dowler (woops).
Pies have Thomas and Pendles
Saints have Voldt and Kosi
Carlton have Murphy/Kennedy and also Krezuer/Masten (traded for Judd)
Bulldogs had Cooney/Ray
Freo used theirs to secure Polak and McPharlin via a trade with Hawks for some guy called Hodge.
Funny how we never hear about these picks....
Truth be told if we didnt get Darling with our PP we had a pick 2 picks after which no doubt would have secured him given the lack of interest.
So when the Pies won the flag last year I don't remember hearing anything about Daisy Thomas being a PP.
Seems to be a lot of teams having peaks and troughs atm.
Which I think in contradiction to Diva's assessment that the comp is quite even and a side only has to be off their game by 5% and they will get beat if the other team plays well

Totally agree if your a little off your game and the opposition play well you will get beat doesn't matter who you are playing
Does Jesse Crichton have a competitive bone in his body?
All hail the April premiers
Was put on long term injury list last week
