An industry source told me today that R.W.W.A. may do a complete turnaround and keep Goss on the payroll as the host of Track Talk but with a very much revised salary.

    To much bad press ?

Listening the other day, Shortte at times was cringe material, but Wes was very good.

Tim is brilliant as the host of the show and you know why?, because he bloody loves it!
He is passionate about his job, which is a pretty rare thing these days.
He also knows his stuff and has built up a great rapport with a heap of people involved in the industry.
Racing Radio has come on in leaps and bounds over the last couple of years and the 'powers to be' should not be dismantling that, in my opinion.
I like Wes and Shorty, but Tim is the man.
Love to see RWWA do a backflip and keep Tim.
If they dont they may just sh1t in their own nest!

Don't despair Tim lovers because he has found another media gig: will be calling the AFL gain on the new sport station,Sport FM
And heard a rumour-not sure how valid or my source-but a big-name replacement from the east has expressed a desire to head west. Not sure who it is but would it be Steve Moran?
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,486 posts
Just out of curiosity, what do you guys think the package, in $ terms would the host of the morning gig expect?
The job would, of course, lead to independent work, MC, voice overs etc.

Laughed when I saw the poll results after I cast mine, Wes getting 100% support so far.

Wes is in thick of the action, Oncourse and elesewhere. What is needed is a person with hands on knowledge of the Industry, not nice sounding voice being the preference. HEY it is not a perfect World we live in. If voice is the preference Bert Newton and a few come to mind. Count you'r blessings not you'r DOLLARS for mine.
  • SuburbanPunkSuburbanPunk    199 posts
Bert Newton was on the show many years ago with a prized snippet.

Hours would be at least 30 minimum per week, even then that number would be the basic if the job is done properly.

There has always been talk of just taking the Melbourne show. Those within racing management that propose that concept should be shot.

We need to push our local content and to all P.T.T. subscribers just bear that in mind, we do need a locally produced show to cover our world here in the West. If we took a Melbourne or Sydney show our content would be next to nothing. We do not exist on the East coast.

Again, I will say it doesn't matter who hosts the show as the knives will always be out for whoever is in the chair.

Every host that has been on Track Talk has upset the listening audience.

So often I hear, not enough thoroughbreds, not enough harness, dogs don't get a fair go, what about the East coast racing, too much football etc etc.

Unfortunately when you try to please the masses you can rarely win.

I must admit some of the whinging directed at the show in the past has just been infantile and narrow minded. Everyone has an agenda and sometimes individuals cannot see the big picture.

Good luck to the new host whoever it may be, remember you are only a conduit for the industry and don't let an ego get in the way of doing a supreme job.

Ego!! Hosting an early morning talk show...fair go.. :x
If that boosts an ego the person needs counselling.

What a load of crap. There is no way you can allocate airtime on a radio show according to betting turnover. I agree with Suburban in that we need local content from a WA produced product. However that content should be independant, something that seemingly eludes the WA media to this moment in time.

If interviews are going to be a continuation of the recent soft pedal on the handicapper, with no hard questions or disputing anything he said, then we might as well listen to pre-recorded races all morning.
  • GaryHGaryH    1,012 posts
I'm not going to be as harsh as Tete, but agree it cannot be based on turnover. Otherwise, "Player" might as well programme the schedule for us!

As for the interviews, the station there is to play the races, and promote the industry so that turnover increases. Unfortunately while this is the case, you’re not going to get impartial commentary.
  • tonytony    2,436 posts
Surely turnover is an indication of the popularity of the codes and sports and so the make up of the breakfast show should reflect that popularity,

It does not mean an exact split but when the presemters/producers are putting the show together they should be aware of the relative popularity of the various codes.

I know that there is little criticsm of the industry but that is the case throughout the electronic racing media in Australia as every outles is owned either by the TAB or the industry, and I cannot see that ever changing as there is not enough interest in the community to make such a sttaion viable

My cards on the table when it comes to Racing Radio, as soon as they start talking trots or greyhounds i pretty much turn over or turn off!
Im not against them, its just i have little interest in them.
I like my racing and footy, and hence why i like Tim i suppose, because he is excellent at these 2.

I don't think it is healthy for any of the three codes to have such attitudes. If you were really taking that line, then you would not even bother with talking about the racing we had yesterday, because surely anything would have been a better betting proposition. By rights the Magic Millions Raceday on the Gold Coast should have dominated, firstly it was full fields with good turnover, and secondly it was not competing against anything here except 9 horse fields for all bar one race.

So for that reason most would agree when I say keeping WA Racing to the forefront is the responsibility of Racing Radio, Interstate programs will do nothing to promote races here, not even Group Races. It is also the responsibility of Racing Radio to give promotion to those codes and venues who have to fight more for the betting turnover dollar.

Yes i agree. Same for me. I have little interest in the other 2 codes so off it goes.

Wilson, im tipping you like me, didnt listen too much today then.
Wes and Richie seemed to rave on about the 'red hots' and 'pole pissers' all morning!
I kept flicking over to 6PR, and then flickin back but gave up.
    Boring radio on 1206 today!

Actually thought it was a good program today. Don't get up THAT early, but pretty sure that 7 to 8 was thoroughbreds, with the dogs and trotts taking most of the segments after 8....

I'm a racing only person. Even the footy is pain (OK, I'm and ex-Queenslander, so that doesn't help). But I listen to the lot. I've found most West Aussies are....."passionate" about their sport to the detriment of all other codes. So I don't think they can keep everybody happy every minute of the show.

PS Don't get me started on the breeders/owners segment! What do they contribute to the turnover :D

highly doubt it would be Steve Moran, TVN have him for the long haul, no doubt Blake could confirm these rumours though..........

No owners,no breeders, no gee gees to punt on!! Owners get shafted by all and sundry in racing starting with the clubs treatment of them, except Pinjarra !
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
Having a foot in all three camps, I don't think that punters do anything than that which will directly benefit only themselves.

At least Owners & Breeders, or some of them, sometimes act in the best interests of the sport.

Not even Administrators can claim that.

Well you'd be racing for 'threepence hapeny' Tete if it wasn't for the punting dollar propping up prizemoney

So you want the undying gratitude of Owners and Breeders everywhere ? When I took the decision to buy a horse, it was much more financial commitment than anything I have ever done on the punt. Then Breeding the bloody things is just long term investments that seemingly all go bad.

Punting is no financial commitment by comparison, and most of the money you invest you take out.

So no agreement from me on this argument
