Lucky for Guest Wing that a few eastern staters didn't come. It had the lowest rating in the race at 68....will cop about 30 points for winning!

Quote Slip: Interesting CV for Guest Wing. Not too many horses would have a placing first up at York the same preparation they race in a Perth Cup................

And in fact WIN a Perth Cup.

Good enough CV for me in that race. Price was amazing considering the form. Wish I'd grabbed 100s when I had the chance earlier on. Great result.

Well done to Diva who picked Simply Adorable as his roughie two weeks ago.

Suffice also to mention that not too many of those would have gone another 200 let alone 800 metres.

We need the Cup back to 3200m and we certainly NEED the Perth Carnival back. No race meeting on Boxing Day is an absolute disgrace, not to mention no metro meetings on many public holidays.
The committee should be a shamed of themselves for stuffing up the Perth Racing Calendar.

while most of you might think the ride on Simply Adorable was one of the bad ones, I reckon thats exactly the way the horse needs to be ridden. Definitely got it into a hole as opposed to wallowing with the back markers.
Paddy actually nearly pulled it off. Im sure Ranger, Tranquility and a few others going forward ruined the plan A, but taking off when he did almost stole it.
The two soft runs when she was held up on the fence probably cost her today. Just one more hard run and she might have prevailed.
The each way was......well, simply adorable!

Diva, thought Paddy rode a cracker. The winner never surprised as thought his last run was very good, just failed to back him.

please can we have our carnival back, the Perth Cup now is just a joke, what was once unique and got the crowd excited is now flat as tack.
3200m please - [powers to be] eat your humble pie admit you stuffed it up and be big enough to rectify it.
Can't be that hard to put races on in Perth over xmas can it ?

Exactly, you nailed that one Dick. There was no anticipation or excitement surrounding yesterday. Perth Racing needs to pull their heads from their holes, show some humility and fix their cacophony of stuff ups.

I still don't get how a 3,200m cup improves anything...........???
Everyone keeps saying 3,200...........ok, well tell us why.

One thing's for certain - any horses in it would only be in it once !
  • Should stop worrying about trying to make it a good race - just accept its an ordinary race and run it at 3200m - let those who want to have a crack do so
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
That's an honest response that I can accept.

Crowd numbers have dropped because they ceased tentland, not because it was reduced to 2,400m.
Still don't think you'll get many willing to run over 3,200m on this track though. Trainers won't bring horses from East to run on this track for shorter races for fear of the harm done, never mind for a two miler !
    (hence Della's comment applies)

Perth Cup should be over 3200m for a true test of stamina, and make it a group 1 $1 million dollar race.

    Ha Ha Ha
  • The only way it will be $1million is if Bob Peters put the money up himself

And the horses (for it to be G1).

One thing is for certain - to increase it to 3,200m, will have to decrease it's rating (G3 at best).

    $1m Listed race perhaps ??? :D
(Marketing point there - richest Listed race in the world ?)

Run the Perth Cup at 3200m and at the Easter carnival when the weather is hopefully kinder. More chance of getting a better quality field.
Run a New Years Day Cup ($250k listed race?) over 2400m on Jan 1
