What has become of the old girl. I would never be happy with it but the least they could do was build something that looked something similar to palatable.

I supposing they have left some patronising tokenistic representation of the past like preserving a turnstile or the winning post to satisfy some pathetic heritage ruling and to act as a comfort to their consciences. That is grotesque.

As a one time regular at HP - ive got to say they are very pricey - i see the former HP supremo Michael Dumnesy bought  one for $900k - 2 or 3 bedroom unit

On a completely separate issue - i heard that 4 Corners are intending to do an investigative show on the sale of HP  for 188 million - that might be a very interesting show - all the recently outed trainers over their (and there are plenty )might be watching that show with glee !!

What you have to remember with HP re its cosmetic appeal - is it was never an attractive location - Glebe was once an absolute **** box( some would say it still is - Glebe Pt Rd etc)  - an inner city slum - those now $1 million plus terraces were once govt controlled with 1 pound a week tenants rent etc - they were the pits of the pits

One thing i noticed they have done is call the different parts of the redeveloped after some of the great horses Locarno etc

Vancelot Avenue and so on. Just awful. Would be better if they ignored it completely.

An interesting bit of history. The club tried to sell HP in the 1920s. A group from Newcastle had agreed to purchase it. To turn it into a Speedway!

It fell through as the backers pulled out the club then decided to reduce the size of the track. Yes. Reduce it! From a 1000m track to 750. Amazing stuff

Wentworth Park will be next. I think they have a long term lease although not sure. But i do know you can walk from the city-it's in Glebe-and that is reason enough to think the developers will be in the Premier's ear.

Its gone, the wolves are at the door, lets build some more concrete. I like appartments as it helps the fight of urban sprawl but please leave something, by old flat blocks and build bigger ones etc not take open space.

I don't think there us a much sader site than when i drive down the "freeway" and start hitting the Armidale road area and where there once use to be horse properties and such magnificent tries litteraly all you can see as roof tops, not one tree in site. No open spaces, no trees left just aluminium and tiles as far as the eye can see.

God help us if GP ever goes the same way as HP considering its far more scenic location compared to HP.  :-SS

True VK. You could never replicate GP. No way you could purchase waterfront land and get approval to put a race track on it
