How would she go in the eastern states? The real test is over there? Would she win a Group 1 over there? If not a Group 1 over east then at least a Group 2, Group 3 or Listed race?

Give credit where credits due,she would beat those crabs over 10 miles

Definitely no intention to lead. Pike said 'It is what it is , we now have to make the most of it ' or words to that effect.

I thought it was an intelligent ride. He would have copped a hiding on places like here had he got beaten.

gsj, in all your 44 posts you have been negative...give it a break.
pike summed the situation in a flash..as good jocks do..would you want her back in the field pulling her head off? a lesser jock may have done just that...cos bob/adam said to...pike summed it up.
I read recently in a biggish race in Sydney Cassidy lead..contrary to instructions but he summed the race up..lead and won.
that, my friend is why you leg up top riders.

A lot of punters put their faith in 'speed maps' yes great idea but I've seen too many races where speed maps go out the window after 200 metres... Things happen , tactics like luck can change in an instant. Good guide speed maps but don't ever swear by them.
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,485 posts
speed maps are crap....just some new innovation to put a spanner in the works.....a race is summed up after 100m and don't let any computer geek tell you otherwise.
the ability of some so called jocks to read the unfolding situation is questionable...the good ones do.

We know that horses like Barakey , Buffering, Travinator like to go forward and it's not Einstein material knowing that Shining Knight types get back. Spare the computer telling me that , I can get that picture in my head. Then expect the unexpected. :-B

She still has to see out the trip. What about a Caulfield Cup? Smokey chance?

Different ball game the Caulfield Cup , that's the cream of the crop. Good luck.

I'm just not going to get over excited. She is a star but only in her own back yard. The east is where the test will be. You can all call me anything under the sun, but I'm just not going to get hyped up. Ive seen many WA horses struggle in the east including Perth Cup winners. I'm a proud WA boy and love it when a WA horse does well in the east but nowdays I just like to let things happen. It's a lot tougher in the east and I wish her and the connections well if they do go there.

there are a lot of races besides the CC....only 13 starts, she should go very well...
  • PCPC    2,265 posts
But that's the thing, we (not me cos I reserve judgement until they do well in the east) I reckon some of us talk up our WA horses a bit too much and then what happens - they struggle in the east and it happens time and time again. It's just another level in the east. Is Real Love up to it? Time will tell.

Can remember in 2001 when WA horse Celestial Show ran 3rd to champion mare Ethereal in the Caulfield Cup. Sneaked into the field as an emergency and nearly caused the biggest boil over seen in a CC. More internationals now though to contend with who are born stayers. It's a race for the best of the best.

    rhys McLeod rode?
  • Ridersonthestorm33Ridersonthestorm33    10,942 posts
Yes I am sure he did. Have a feeling he rode a long priced place getter in a Melbourne Cup too. Also mistook the laps in a race at Moonee Valley poor bugger. He doesn't need that reminder.
  • PCPC    2,265 posts
Celestial Show won a stakes (Group/Listed) race in the east. She won the Naturalism Stakes. Also finished 6th in the Melbourne Cup.
  • Ridersonthestorm33Ridersonthestorm33    10,942 posts
And of course he won the Sydney Derby on Ethiopia. That's a good reminder.
  • PCPC    2,265 posts
and Ethiopia was a WA horses - makes the win even more special. Was bred in WA.

flucked ONE race...a derby...zilch since then...just a fluke win, PC.
  • Ridersonthestorm33Ridersonthestorm33    10,942 posts
I gave Celestial Show no chance she handled the softish tracks well. She was a big price in the Melbourne Cup too. She was probably underrated as a racehorse .

    certainly was...mortons??

yes you're right, it was a fluke, but its a WA horse and it has an eastern states Group 1 to it's name and no more should be said on that.
