R1. Tabtouch - Your Industry Your Tab Handicap - Gary Wright

An early start this afternoon and a pretty even field in this first race. Will go with On The Ropes, his last run doesnt look the best on paper but he does figure prominently in the stewards report, so it may be best to overlook that run. Theres a bit to like about this horse today, he has been aimed at the mile this preparation, and he is drawn to get a nice run in transit, he gets every chance to notch another victory here it seems. Red Blast looks to have good hopes also on his last run, he seems to go well with Pike on board and is also drawn to get every chance in running. Another who ran a good race last start in Terror Force is also in with a major chance in this race if producing something similar to his last effort, and Black Magic Miss is a good novelty hope, she doesnt carry much weight here, they seem to round out the main chances, Full Steam Ahead has to carry the grandstand today which hampers his chances no end, and Galaxy Prince is a good type but may need another start or two before showing his best form.

4. ON THE ROPES - 8. RED BLAST - 10. TERROR FORCE

SUGGESTED BET - 4. ON THE ROPES $20 x $20

R2. Westspeed Stayers\' Bonus Handicap - Gary Wright

Once again Rive Gauche goes around with a postage stamp weight and he does look hard to beat in this race due to that fact. There may be a speed battle on up front early with Verdello Blue who also likes to lead but I suspect Rive Gauche will win that early battle and get to the front. Lucy Warwick has been riding in fine form the last couple of months and will rate Rive Gauche well in front, it will be interesting to see if anything can run this horse down in the straight. Gladstone always looks a good chance in any race he contests, he meets Rive Gauche a little better on weights from their tussle three weeks ago and will be given a good chance by punters of turning the tables, he has started favorite at his last five starts and it may be six here. Hard to fault the form of Come Flirt With Me, a very impressive winner here last start over Midnight Shimmer at good odds, and the perennial placegetter in True Gold is another for punters to consider here, certainly for novelty bets anyway.

    7. RIVE GAUCHE - 5. GLADSTONE - 8. COME FLIRT WITH ME

    SUGGESTED BET - 7. RIVE GAUCHE $20 x $20

R3. Westspeed Stayers\' Bonus Handicap - Gary Wright

Raising Dubai is a good horse in these type of races when at his best, you just suspect that may be the case this afternoon. This is his fourth run this campaign so he should be ready to show his best in this race today. His first two runs were excellent when placed behind a couple of good horses, last start they may have sprinted a bit quickly for him when Rive Gauche went for home on the corner, but what we know is Raising Dubai is a good horse over this distance when right, and he should be right today. Scenic Grin has raced very well in this preparation, albeit in weaker fields than this, but the form line is hard to ignore here. Similarly Ram Jam is in terrific form going for four on the bounce this afternoon, again this is a stronger field but the picket fence next to his name makes him a definate chance once again today. Kirov Boy is a Wednesday winner who has found a new lease of life, if they butter him up again he may run another forward race on the short back up.

    3. RAISING DUBAI - 5. SCENIC GRIN - 4. RAM JAM

    SUGGESTED BET - 3. RAISING DUBAI $25 x $25

R4. National Jockeys Celebration Day Handicap - Gary Wright

Some very promising types engaged in this race, lets hope we have a repeat of the finish a fortnight ago when three of these went across the line almost together. The runner up that day in Hellyer then came out at the midweeks and put that field to the sword winning by nearly five lengths, the stable do have a high opinion of this one, and he will be the selection here. The key may be overcoming the wide draw and getting to the front or at least a very forward position, he will no doubt be buslted out of the gates in an attempt to do so. Last weeks winner in Calabria Joe must also have claims, he was ridden beautifully and came home strongly on the bog track to win well, how much that took out of him remains to be seen as he butters up once again today, but it was a nice win last week. Castle Retreat has to also have claims, he was in that close finish behind Shengmu two weeks ago and is racing very well for Paul Jordan, Kaapander won well at the midweeks on Jul 16, and of course Shengmu won that race a fortnight ago, although she meets most of these on much worse weight terms, this is a good three year old race.

    2. HELLYER - 3. CALABRIA JOE - 1. CASTLE RETREAT

    SUGGESTED BET - 2. HELLYER $40

R5. Paul Quartermaine 60th Birthday Handicap - Gary Wright

There are two class horses in this race, Thateldo and Antique Belle, and certainly over the five furlongs Thateldo looks suited here. He has had a slight let up since his last two runs in stronger company in June, and with the claim for Lucy Warwick and a plum draw he looks the one to beat here. This horse hasnt been unplaced at the 1000 metre distance in six starts and he does look something to bet on if punters can get a decent price in this race as he should be given every chance in the run here. Antique Belle should be coming home well, and will improve as the distances increase, she probably drops out from the wide draw and will hope for pace up front, and of course with Park Lane engaged you would expect a fair clip on here. Park Lane no doubt leads for Jerry Noske and has a light weight and may take some catching up the straight. Recode is another who has a good track and distance record who may provide value in novelties, he rarely runs a bad race but doesnt win too many either.

    1. THATELDO - 6. ANTIQUE BELLE - 5. PARK LANE

    SUGGESTED BET - 1. THATELDO $60

R6. Congrats Ben Paterson Leading Apprentice Handica - Gary Wright

The quaddie may take some getting today as the final three races arent easy to say the least. Songburg has impressive form having won her last two races before a short spell, however her first up form is good, and she starts from a really nice gate, likes the 1400 metre distance and has the 3kgs claim for Lucy Warwick, so she does tick a few boxes here and should be at good each way odds. However there are a few nice fillies and mares against her today including Via Laurentina who should be approaching peak fitness at her third start this campaign, this mare does have above average ability and looks a real chance also in this open affair. Midnight Shimmer is another in very good form at present, and we cant dismiss her claims either, maybe the reduction back to 1400 metres is the concern with her prospects, however her form has been good of late as we know. Korenica was a good winner when well supported three weeks back, most punters were spot on that day, possibly a little disappointing last start behind Mad Brad but going on that Saturday win she has a chance here, then we also have the lightly raced Bonny Zara, Angel Rose and the fast finisher in Dark Rock, to make this race one of the most open of the day.

    1. SONGBURG - 5. VIA LAURENTINA - 4. MIDNIGHT SHIMMER

    SUGGESTED BET - 1. SONGBURG $20 x $20

R7. Congrats William Pike Leading Rider Handicap - Gary Wright

Trade Down has been in superlative form of late as we well know, but its going to be more difficult to keep this run going up in class this afternoon. However its very hard to knock his winning form and he does get the inside draw in this big field, so he has a few factors in his favour. He has been so impressive I am loathe to tip against him winning his fourth race in a row today, what we do know is he will lob into a terrific position in running, and given every chance. Crown Lawyer is also in great form and he will appreciate the nice weight in this race, he has won three from his last four in impressive style and looks a major chance in this race. Dream Lifter won well at his last start, in all honesty he was probably overdue, but we all know the ability this horse has, and you can never dismiss his prospects, he looks to be right in this race as well. The interesting runner is the returning Bippo No Bungus, on the trail to the Melbourne riches, he warmed up with a nice trial last week, look for him to be powering home at the end of this race. Some good ones engaged here, this is one of the better races on the card today.

    16. TRADE DOWN - 12. CROWN LAWYER - 10. DREAM LIFTER

    SUGGESTED BET - 16. TRADE DOWN $25 x $25

R8. Congrats Adam Durrant Leading Trainer Handicap - Gary Wright

Its almost a field job in the last leg of the quaddie and it may be an expensive exercise to put all or most of these runners in but its as open a race as we have seen for a while at Belmont. The full field does make it hard to recommend anything with confidence, a look through this field and you can make some sort of case for most runners. I have been impressed with Traded Halo at his two starts from a spell, he does loom as a good each way chance once again today. He has run two very nice placings since returning and the nice draw in such a big field can only enhance his chances, you will probably get good odds on any runner here so maybe a small investment may make you a few dollars to go home with. He is also racing over whats probably his favorite distance, so look for a forward showing from Traded Halo once again today. The lightly raced Cougar Nights looks to have well above average ability, he returned from a long break whe a convincing winner at the midweeks a few days ago, the only offputting factor is the wide draw at the 1400 metres, but if you like this horses chances, maybe just get on, again each way prices should be the go here. Paseo Del Prado returned a fortnight ago and just went down to War Prince that day, expect more improvement today from this horse, and you know Rusty Peaches probably leads and stays out of trouble, something thats in his favour in such a big field, a tough one to finish the days racing.

    2. TRADED HALO - 14. COUGAR NIGHTS - 10. PASEO DEL PRADO

    SUGGESTED BET - 2. TRADED HALO $20 x $20
