R7. Skyy Vodka - W.a. Champion Fillies Stakes - 1 January 1970
|
Rising to Champion status
By Race 7 Skyy Vodka may well be the drink of choice and considering I'll be on course wearing a shirt with Snails on it I think I'm capable of pulling it off. The Champion Fillies is an absolute cracker with the undefeated Ideal Image a deserving favourite however she doesn't even make my top 3 such is the depth in quality on display. Liberty Rise exemplifies Ladies Day; an over the top and extravagent galloping action and a tease to say the least. Shows glimpses of brilliance with an electric turn of foot but like most fillies on course, impossible to catch. She will drift back in running and should be hitting the line hard along side Top Show who I have in for second. She was super impressive first-up behind Disposition and then never in the race behind Ideal Image last start when forced all the way back to last on a day when backmakers needed a set of binoculars to see the winner. If they can run on then she'll be mowing turf late. Delicacy is one of the few onspeed runners in the race, should get a lovely soft run and hold a 3 or 4 length advantage on her main rivals rounding the bend.

Interesting that he stayed off the rail majority of the race therefore not needing to shift out on the turn. This when the inside was gold all day and Delicacy absolutely hammered on betfair before jump! Hall said in the post race interview he could see the...

Pike was using the whip in his right hand just as Hall was taking what looked to be a narrow gap on the inside. If he's trying to give the stable mate room surely he wouldn't be encouraging it to roll in?

From the stewards Stewards to consider all the evidence and also to review betting records Delicacy's odds near enough halved just before the jump. Work with that stewards!

Well Pike sure wasn't looking around so if there is anything suss it certainly didn't look that way. Although as @legless suggested, the front on camera angle may reveal something else. Silverstream faded out of the race badly. I wouldn't be surprised if he hu...
